"We were celebrating her birthday.", Courfeyrac answered. "Celebrating her birthday? Instead of doing the work I gave you last night. I bet you didn't do it.", Enjolras said, getting louder. Courfeyrac slowly walked back. "What's your problem? Leave him alone.", I yelled, pushing Enjolras.

"Who are you to talk to me like that?" "I am a human being and I call you out when you're wrong." I looked behind me to see the boys stunned. Enjolras was also speechless. "What? Don't you have anything to say to me?", I asked.

"Get out." "Make me." "Very well." He left me standing in the middle of the room. He stormed past the boys, out of the meeting room. "Was I too harsh on him?" "No. It's just that no one has never called him out for his anger.", Feuilly explained. "Why is that?"

"We respect Enjolras. We're his friends." "Yeah, you're his friends, not his punching bags. Also, I respect Enjolras too. I just don't understand why he got so mad." "You don't need to. It's a long story.", Enjolras said.

"I must apologize. To you guys and to you Clara. I have been wrong.", he said. "You were but you apologized, which says a lot about you.", I said with a smile. Then I left. I was going to show up after the meeting. I had some things to say to him. Also, I wanted to understand him.

It must have been something really dramatic.

I saw Courfeyrac leaving the meeting. I pulled him aside. "Hey, is someone still upstairs?" "Yeah, Enjolras. Why?", he asked. "Can you take Gavroche with you tonight? Eponine will be home late and I have something to discuss with the marble man upstairs.", I explained.

"No worries. I'll take him in." "Thanks." Courfeyrac left with Gavroche. I walked up the remaining stairs and knocked. I didn't want to startle Enjolras. "What are you doing here? The meeting is over." "I know. That's why I came." "Are you going to continue to tell me what a bad friend I am?", he asked.

"No, although you acted like a dick. But enough of that. You said that it's a long story. Do you want to talk about it?" "No. I do not know you." "You know my name?" "Oui?" "Then you know me. I'm not a stranger Enjolras. Although I respect your wish. I guess I'll leave then.", I said. I got up and went to the door when I heard him speak.

"Why are you interested in the story?" "Because there is so much more than this facade.", I said. "How do you know?" "Come on. I know you're not naturally an asshole. I heard you talking about your cause. You're so passionate about it. And I guess after today, I have to figure out why you act like this."

"You're so good with words. Why don't you join our cause?" "I'd like to but Courfeyrac told me about your no-women-policy. Also, I don't like getting hit by strangers. Happens a lot anyway.", I admitted. "You're getting hit? By whom?" "Men. Strangers. I wasn't even about to steal if that's what you were about to ask. It's your choice. If you want to talk about it, then I'm here. I may not be your friend, but I am a supporter. It doesn't matter if I like you or not."

"Why are you so nice to me? I yelled at you for no reason!", he said. "I know. I am used to getting yelled at. Don't worry. Everyone has a bad day once in a while." "Alright. I'm trusting you, although I don't know why." "Thank you for your trust."

"A lot of things happened when I was growing up. I remember when I turned 5, I got my first book. I treated it like a treasure. It was my most prized possession. One day, it was gone. I overheard a conversation between my parents. I was an accident, I heard my mother say. My father, who was an alcoholic, agreed."

It broke my heart seeing tears staining his cheek. My own tears were about spill. "I-I had a hard time processing it. That's when I ran away. My parents were supporters of the king. That's why I hate him. He took my family. One day an Inspector brought me back. My family didn't miss me. And they showed me that. Every single day."

"I am so sorry to hear that." "You can't change it. It's the past now. I was unwanted and I got to feel that every day.", he said. I got up and hugged him. It was my first reaction. I had realized, that Enjolras was a hurt child inside. "I'm sorry for bringing all those feelings back up." "It feels good to tell someone about it. What about you? Gavroche had always praised you. What about your life?"

(a/n: I'm crying writing this 😭 But the next chapter will be about Clara's life and her history. What do you think about this (sad) chapter?)
