(3rd) POV:
The skies were blue, and the sun shined high up in the sky, making it a beautiful day, especially for the gang's first day of work. While the girls were assigned to set up the dining tables (at least that's what I think they are), Fred and Shaggy were told to help people learn how to golf. And as (Y/N)'s childhood friend, Shaggy promised to help her out in any way that he could with finding out how Fred really feels about (Y/N), while also making sure not to give anything away.
"Getting much better distance on those woods, sir," Fred says to one of the customers, who once again missed his shot by hitting the ball into a tree.
"Hey, uh, Fred, can I talk to you man-to-man?" Shaggy asks.
"Sort of,"
"Well, you and Daphne," Shaggy tries to say, wanting to help his childhood friend in any way that he could, while also trying to not spill the beans for (Y/N)'s sake. "Is that something you recommend?"
"What do you mean?" Fred asks, confused.
"Well, you know, going from having, uh, you know, a girl friend to a girlfriend," Shaggy clarifies.
Understanding Shaggy's words, Fred gives his answer. "I don't know if I'd really call Daphne my girlfriend, Shags. You know it's more casual than that. We're just, um...We're hanging out. I'm just not the relationship type. I'm a football player, we like to, uh, play the field. Anyway, it's summer, Shaggy,"
"Oh, yeah, summer. Totally," despite trying to keep a smile, Shaggy is not comfortable with Fred's answer. How am I ever going to explain this to (N/N), Shaggy thinks to himself, hating to see her, his best friend, heartbroken. But Shaggy still tries, giving it one more shot to see if Fred really sees (Y/N) as a friend or not. "Because who'd want a girlfriend during daylight-savings time?"
"Good guess, but what I'm saying is summer's a time you just wanna have fun. Not get so serious. Daphne's cool, she feels the same way," says Fred.
"Like, wow, it sounds like you two are on the same wave-length," Shaggy says, trying to hide how bad he's going to feel when he tells (Y/N) that Fred only thinks of her as a friend.
"Exactly.........Besides, I think that there's actually...someone else that I like, more than Daphne," Fred admits.
Hearing that last part, Shaggy perks up from his disappointment. "Oh yeah? And who might that be?"
Fred then turns serious, unsure if he should really be telling Shaggy. "Promise not to tell anyone, especially (Y/N)?" when Shaggy nods his head, Fred looks around, making sure no one from the gang is in ear-shot to hear, before turning back to Shaggy, letting out a sigh. "...If I really were to have a girlfriend, I'd go with (Y/N),"
"(N/N)? As in my childhood friend, (N/N)? The one we solve mysteries with, (N/N)?" Shaggy asks, trying to hide his excitement.
Fred rolls his eyes at Shaggy, thinking that he's being goofy as usual. "Yeah. I mean, sure, Daphne's not so bad, but...(Y/N) is awesome. She's just...she's different. Very different than any other girl I've ever met. And that's what I like most about her,"
"Well, like, if you like (N/N) so much, then why Daphne?" Shaggy asks, happy for (Y/N), but confused about Fred being with Daphne.
Fred then lets out a sigh. "...I don't know. I just...I just don't know if she feels the same about me or not. Plus, I'm also trying to figure out my own feelings for her, to see how much I care about her. That's why I went for Daphne, to see how she'd react, and also to see whether I do feel that strongly about her or not. I know it's not the best option, practically a dumb one. But I don't know what else to do, to see what she thinks of me,"
