The Akatsuki sat around a large table, Pein standing at the head of it. All of their eyes were on him, awaiting what he had to say. Apparently, there was something big he wanted to discuss, something which had severely pissed him off. None were afraid of what would happen next, they all knew that Pein was stronger that them by a landslide but trusted that nothing bad was going to happen. Instead of panicking, they waited patiently, much to Sasori's dismay.

Pein cleared his throat before his loud, deep voice addressed the members of his organization.

"It has come to my attention that there is someone out there who is pretending to be a apart of the Akatsuki. I'd like to request you all in the recovery of this person, from what I've heard they are quite skilled and I'd like to recruit them if I can." Hidan snickered, having most other members turn and look at him. If he hadn't already made it obvious, he was an idiot, having no sense of fear because of his immortality.

"Why do we all need to go, I could take that jackass down myself," he brags, making everyone else in the room mentally roll their eyes, some actually doing it. Not caring to start an argument, Pein continued.

"I've collected a lot of information on them from an outside source, entire anbu squads have been sent out after them and none succeeded in their capture. There are also many oddities that come with this, like tha fact that they spare specific people, there being no connection or pattern between them." The Akatsuki members seemed to find interest in this for personal reasons, Sasori interested in making himself another human puppet and Zetsu feeling hungry and wanting to eat them.

Pein grew annoyed with the group and wrapped up the meeting, beginning to walk towards the door with Konan following behind him.

"Be ready to leave by dawn, we'll set out and head for the land of waves, that is where they were last sighted," he ordered.

As soon as he left, the other members got up and began leaving too. None of them were too keen for conversation. Hidan tried to talk to Kakuzu but was immediately shut down, Deidara yelling across the table at Tobi who had been irritating him throughout the meeting.

"Tobi is so excited," the masked man chanted, jumping up and down in a hyper fashion. Kisame, who was walking behind Itachi, looked back at him with a toothy grin.

"Why's that?"

"If we get a new member then Tobi can make a new friend!" he enthused, running out the door, cutting in front of the Uchiha. Itachi didn't seem to care and continued through the door, heading straight to his room. The others went their separate ways, entering their rooms and wondering about this person Pein spoke of. An Akatsuki impersonator who was skilled and selective with death, it sounded odd to them.

What was the reason for this selective mercy?

--------------------------------------------

You heaved out a long breath, leaning back against a tree after a lengthy and brutal battle. Kirigakure had sent shinobi after you... again. You thought they would learn their lesson after the time but no, here you were, wiping the blood from your kunai.

Your gaze moved from the blood stained grass to the clear blue sky, it was something you had missed after being stuck in darkness for 10 years. The surface world was so colorful, the blue of the sky, green of the leaves and grass, brown of the tree trunks and dirt, red of the blood.

Taking another deep breath, you pushed yourself back up and began walking away. Noticing one of the shinobi still alive, groaning in pain. Sighing, you approached him and knelt down. The guy immediately tried moving away, hissing in pain at the open wound on his abdomen. Not caring about his slow, pathetic attempt to escape, you took his hand and held it softly, meeting his gaze. He watched as you stared into his eyes, feeling as if you were looking right into his soul.

And to be honest, you basically were. As a child you were given the "gift" of a what your people called a Reader, someone who had can see how people are going to die. Seeing an image of a hospital bed and much older version of the man surrounded family made you pull back.

"It's not your time yet," you muttered, putting his hand down and hovering yours above his wound. His eyes widened as it healed quickly, much faster than any medical ninjutsu. He seemed afraid, shuffling backward along the ground until it hit a tree trunk.

"What the hell are you?" he yelled, his voice shaking. Not knowing how to answer, you shrugged your shoulder.

"Dunno, now get out of here and go to your family. Also, don't send any more shinobi after me unless you want to die, I don't have the patience to keep killing you all," you huffed, annoyed. He gave a quick nod before scrambling to his feet and running off. It was pitiful, seeing someone who was supposed to be fearless scurry off like a frightened mouse.

Now done with this area, you decided to head out. Picking up your black cloak, you slid it on, smiling down at the red clouds which decorated it. It was tattered at the ends, having a few rips but you refused to wear anything else. This was a symbol of your friends, the new family which was formed when you became the Akatsuki.

It made you wonder about what had happened to them. Were they even still alive, your little brother Yahiko and sister Konan? They weren't your biological siblings but you cared for them even so. Also, where was Nagato? Your cheeks dusted a light pink as you remembered your times together and everything that happened between the two of you. And even though ten years had passed, your love and care for him hadn't lessened one bit.

As your mind filled with thoughts of the past, you smiled and walked away from the battlefield. Tied around your thigh was your Amegakure headband, a scratch running through the four vertical lines which represented the constant rainfall in the village.

Sure, it looked like everything you once had was lost but you still held hope. Having the knowledge from the first time you had ever met them that they would die when they were older. Knowing that those closest to you would die was truly heartbreaking, some gift it was.

The gift to read other's deaths.

New story because I wanted to have another Naruto one to write about, I haven't written about Nagato/Pein before but I've had this idea for quite some time. Hope you enjoyed, thank you :)
