"Carol."

I open my eyes slowly and look around. George is still reading and it's dark outside. Did I fall asleep so fast?

"Paul? What's wrong?" I slide off my bed and stand up. I rub my eyes and I hear George chuckle.

"Can I talk to you in private?" Paul looks at me and takes my hand. He leads me into the hallway and then into the hotel stairway.

"Is something wrong?" I say, sitting on the stairs next to Paul. I really hope nothing happened to him or John.

"No, love. I didn't expect you to be sleeping so early." Paul laughs a little as he holds me close.

"Brian mentioned that it may be good for the press if you were pregnant."

I cover my mouth suddenly.

"Are you crazy?!? I'm not getting pregnant for some silly news article." I say, looking at Paul wide eyed as he laughs at my reaction.

"I knew you'd say that, so I told Brian no. I just want to make sure you know that he may bother you about it."

I roll my eyes and rest my head on my hands.

"You woke my up for that."

Paul smirks.

"I can't have you sleeping without me next to you." I look at Paul and chuckle.

"You dirty man."

He chuckles and kisses my cheek. He smells like smoke and sweat. What the hell were him and John doing?

"Why are you so opposed to it anyways? I hope to start a family with you."

I look at Paul quickly as I scan his eyes. I look away and look at my hands instead.

"I don't know. I'm too young." I say, making Paul laugh. He seems to think this is funny although I'm pretty serious.

"You're 22." Paul says, and I scowl. That is pretty young. It's not my fault Paul is 25.

"I'm the same age as George. Don't you seem him as a baby?" I say, trying to show Paul how I feel.

"George?" Paul says, his grin turning into a frown. "I think he is old enough to make his own decisions."

"I don't think that I can say the same about me." I say, fixing my position next to Paul. He looks at me and holds me closer.

"No worries, love. It is not important." Paul kisses my temple and smiles into my hair.

"Paul, I've got a question."

Paul laughs a little and closes his eyes.

"Shoot."

"Why did you pick me of all the girls you know to marry you?"

Paul looks at me, and then knits his eyebrows together.

"Because I love you."

"Love is a strong word, James." I say, looking down at my feet.

"I know." Paul moves away from me and stands up. "What are you trying to say?"

"I just mean, maybe I'm not the right firl for you after all. There's so many other girls who are smarter, prettier, funnier..." I drift off and stand up. Why am I acting this way?

"I don't know what has gotten over you, Carol." Paul looks at me and taps his foot. "You know that I don't care about any of that."

"I do."

"Are you saying that you want someone who is better than me?" Paul crosses his arms.

"No."

"What is it? I thought we had a nice night together."

I sigh and run my hands through my hair.

"We did. I think I should go back to bed." I say, walking towards the hallway once again.

"Carol, if you can't tell me what's wrong then its a real problem." Paul holds me back and turns me to face him.

"I can tell you what's wrong. I just don't know what's bothering me." I look down at the floor. I just want to go back to the room.

"Is this about George?"

Paul's words catch me off guard as I look up. What does George have to do with us?

"George is not important." I say, looking away from Paul. I hear Paul sigh and cross his arms again.

"I heard you guys behind the farm today."

I widen my eyes a bit and look at Paul.

"Why can't you tell me the truth, Carol?"

"It's not anything important. I told him I am with you and that's it." I walk closer to him but Paul looks away.

"I believe you. I just can't believe George would make a move on my girl." My heart flutters a bit at his words and I move his face to mine.

"Stop thinking." I say, closing the space between our lips. Paul closes his eyes and holds my face closer to his.

"Alright, Carol." Paul smiles a bit and parts. "Let's go back to the room."

I nod and follow him back to the room. George looks up at us and smiles.

"Hello."

Paul looks at him and raises and eyebrow.

"Me and you are going out tomorrow night to get a you a bird." Paul smiles and pats George's back. Is this what Paul had in mind? I look away and avoid eye contact with George.

"I'm alright, Paul. I don't want anybody right now."

Paul laughs a little harder and smiles.

"Don't be silly, Geo. You want a bird."

I can feel the tension between the two of them building, so I decide to go to the bathroom. Paul really should just leave it alone. Before heading back out, I see George roll his eyes and close the light on his side of the room. He is upset now.

"Paul, let's head to bed." I say, leading him to the bed and closing our lights as well. Paul looks at me and pouts. I don't know what Paul is trying to do but I am not a fan of it.

"Alright."

I slip into bed and Paul follows behind me. I turn around to face George quickly and his eyes are already on me, like always. Thank god it's dark in the room when he winks at me.
