"Cyn?" Paul speaks as we both look at Julian and Cynthia in shock.
"Come in." I say, letting them enter the house as it starts snowing heavily outside.
"I'm really sorry." Cynthia says, wiping her eyes as she weeps some more. Julian stares at the floor quietly.
"What's going on?" Paul says, closing the door as Cynthia and Julian take off their coats and shoes. We all walk into the kitchen and sit down at the table.
"John...he...said he's done with me."
Cynthia's words echo throughout the house as I shake slightly.
"John did?" Paul says, as his hands clasp together firmly. He's mad.
"He just started yelling at me so I took Julian and left. I didn't know where else to go..."
I hear Julian cough as he stares at his hands. I look back to Paul who's already staring at me. His eyes look sad and depressed. I wonder why John is acting so harsh.
"He said he needs time alone." Cynthia says, wiping her eyes quickly.
"Maybe he was just mad." Paul says, hoping to control the situation.
"I hope so. I really love him." I feel my stomach turn as she speaks and I cover my mouth. John is a bastard, and I can't believe he treats Cynthia so poorly.
"You can stay the night if you want. We have a guest room for you." Paul says, as he looks over to Julian who yawns.
"Thank you Paul." Cynthia says, nodding her head quickly as I look down to my feet.
"You're family, Cyn. Nothing can change that." Paul nods at Cynthia as she smiles slightly. She gets up, taking Julian with her upstairs as I look out the window. I don't really know what to say and I feel awful.
"I love you."
I turn to face Paul as he speaks. He grabs my hands quickly as he closes his eyes harshly.
"I won't ever treat you so poorly again. I won't make you want George anymore. I'm not like John, I swear."
Paul shakes slightly as he speaks and I soften my eyes. I caress his cheek with one of my hands as he opens his eyes gently.
"I love you too, Paul. I know you mean well." I say, as I softly kiss his lips. He returns the kiss and I feel butterflies in my stomach.
Just like the first time I kissed him.
"I need to call John. He can't leave Cynthia here like this." Paul says, letting go of my hands and getting up.
"John?" I hear Paul whisper as he walks towards the kitchen window. I follow him only to see John standing outside, shaking and smiling.
What a bastard.
"We have to let him in." Paul says, opening the back door to let his best friend in. John walks inside the house, and puts some snow on the kitchen tiles. I scowl slightly as I eye him. He looks at me before turning his attention to Paul.
"Thanks, mate. Is Cyn here?"
"Yes." I say, crossing my arms slightly. I want him out of my house.
"Oh. Well, I've got nowhere else to go, you see. She locked me outside and left." John shakes as his red eyes show. He's been crying.
"What exactly is going on here?" Paul asks, his arms on his sides as he sighs. He shouldn't have to deal with John's stupidity.
"Cyn found out about Carol and I."
I feel my stomach drop as I close my eyes. He told her. He hurt her on purpose.
"You told her, John. Don't act innocent." I say, but John shakes his head.
"I didn't. She asked me about it as soon as I got home from the studio and kicked me out of the house."
How else would she find out if John didn't tell her? I'm sure Paul didn't tell her.
"She said you wanted to end things with her." Paul says, biting his lip.
"After she bloody threw me out the house!" John yells, and I scowl. Cynthia and Julian are upstairs.
"John?" I turn to see Cynthia in the hallway. I quickly look away. I don't think I can look at her anymore.
"Cynthia." John says, looking down as he speaks. He crosses his arms as he speaks.
"Get out of here. You hurt me so much." Cynthia begins to cry again, and I look at Paul. He shrugs his shoulders, not knowing what to do.
"How did you find out about this?" John yells, and Cynthia flinches slightly. I want to tell her how sorry I am, but its not my fault. Its all John's.
"George told me, ok? I can trust him!"
"You told George?" John turns his attention to me as soon as Cynthia utters his name.
"I don't have to hide things, John. You hurt me." I say, gripping my arm as I look away.
"You hurt me and Carol. You deserve to die in the cold." Cynthia says, her red eyes staring at John in a way I've never seem before. So vicious...and so aggressive.
"Fuck off, Cyn." John says harshly, "after what you did with Pete?"
John laughs slightly as he speaks.
"I'm not the only one who's a cheater."
Cynthia looks at the floor as she cries.
"Don't embarrass me." Cynthia says, but John doesn't stop.
"Don't always play victim. I'm sick of this. Go home and take Julian there. He shouldn't have to deal with your childish play." John says, crossing his arms again as he looks up at her. I've never seen John so calm and assertive before. Is it possible that he is right?
"Fine." Cynthia storms upstairs as John narrows his eyes. He looks at me quickly and fixes his hair.
"I'm sorry for what I did. I'm fucking horny as shit all the time because Cynthia doesn't want me anymore."
"Don't ever touch Carol again." Paul says, eyeing John as he bites his lip. He looks more angry than before.
"Yeah, I won't. I'm really sorry Carol. Forgive me?" John says, smiling as he looks at me. I know he's lying. He'll hurt me again.
"I'm going to bed." I say just as Cynthia opens the door to leave with Julian. She didn't even say goodbye.
"OK, love. We're leaving at 9 tomorrow." Paul says, smiling slightly as we make eye contact. I nod and walk upstairs into our bedroom.
There's no point in denying it anymore.
Paul will always pick John over me.
