"Momma!"Amari ran up to Damita crying as soon as she walked through the door. She had on nothing but a diaper and her father was nowhere in sight.
"Hi mommy's baby."Damita kissed her daughters cheeks. "What's wrong honey?"
Amari wiped her eyes and put her arms around her mother's neck.
"Somebody missed their mommy today, huh?"Damita pinched her cheek.
Amari nodded her head and laid her head on her mothers shoulder.
"Let's get some clothes on you."Damita carried Amari upstairs to her room. She laid her down and put her in a pink that said "Mommy's Girl." She then put her back on her hip and they walked back down the stairs.
"I turned my back on you for one second and you disappear."Amaru chuckled. "Hey baby."He kissed Damita on the cheek.
"Why didn't you have any clothes on her? She has a little head cold."Damita grabbed a tissue and wiped Amari's nose.
"I was about to put clothes on her. I just got her out of the tub. I was in the bathroom."Amaru replied with an attitude. "You starting already and you just walked in."
"I only asked you a question Amaru. I didn't get an attitude."Damita rolled her eyes and walked into the kitchen. She sat Amari on the counter and gave her a pacifier. She grabbed one of her sippy cups out of their dishwasher and filled it with apple juice. She handed Amari the cup and grabbed herself a bottle of water.
She picked Amari up off of the counter and let her walk around on her own. As they walked out of the kitchen she could hear voices other than her husbands which meant one thing. The guys were over.
Every day it was the same thing.
Amari followed her mother out of the kitchen and into the living room.
"Hey, Damita."Mike, Eric, and Broderick all spoke to her.
"Hi, guys."Damita forced a smile. "Daddy, would you mind coming into the kitchen for a second."Damita continued to smile.
Amaru irritably handed the play station controller to Eric. He stood up from the couch and followed her into the kitchen. "What's up?"He rubbed his hand across his face as if she was getting on his nerves.
"Do they have to come over every day?"Damita furrowed her eyebrows. "I love your brothers just as much as you, but sometimes I would like to just be home with my husband and my child."
"They don't come over every day though," Amaru argued.
"Well, every other day. Then when they leave you don't clean up after them. I already have a child to clean up after Amaru, I don't need four more."Damita put a hand on her hip.
"Ok, I'll make them clean up before they go."
"Why are you talking to me like that? Like I'm getting on your nerves."Damita slightly rolled her neck. "You know what forget it. I'm not arguing with you. I need Amari to stay down here with you. I have studying to do. I'm doing pro-bono work with my professor on Friday. I won't be able to focus if she's under me."
"Aight."Amaru picked Amari up and walked out of the kitchen. He sat down on the couch with her on his lap.
Damita grabbed her things and walked up the stairs to her bedroom. She then got out of her took a quick shower so that she could be comfortable.
She laid all her books and paperwork all over the bed, so she could study the case. This was a big case for her professor and he was counting on Damita to help him win.
