tyler and veronica fell asleep on the couch together a few hours ago in the middle of a movie. they were having a will ferrel marathon on the way to the concert tonight in phoenix, arizona. neither of them realized that when they fell asleep on the couch, they began cuddling. if they were awake and aware of their actions, that would not have happened.
but here they are. veronica's head is resting on tyler's chest and her arm is draped atop him. tyler is holding veronica for dear life, as if at any moment she will wake up and move away from him. his chin was resting on top of her head.
ding. ding. ding. ding.
veronica's phone was chirping on the table in front of the sleeping couple. it has been blowing up with text messages for a few minutes now. veronica's eyes slowly peeled open on the twelfth ding, but she quickly closed them due to the light being too bright and the fact that she is comfortable and tired, she's still in much need of a nap. on the thirteenth ding, tyler's eyes opened. his head slowly drifted down upon feeling something, or someone, on his chest. he smiled to himself when he saw the sleeping and fragile veronica laying on his chest, a handful of his tshirt in her fist. he wondered when they started cuddling and if she aware of it also.
ding. ding.
tyler, as much as he did not want to, slowly shook the sleeping veronica. "ronnie," he whispered ever so slightly. kind of hoping that she would not wake up.
"hmm," she responded, not moving at all.
"your phone ronnie." tyler said just as her phone went off again. those three words must have really caught veronica's attention because she snapped her eyes open, looking around for a moment to figure out where she was and what was going on.
"shit, sorry." veronica apologized, quickly letting go of tyler's shirt and pushing herself off of his chest.
"don't be." tyler said, feeling a lot colder and emptier now that veronica wasn't asleep on his chest. veronica reached for her phone and quickly read through some of the many messages on her phone. groaning, she pressed call and held her phone up to her ear. now sitting on the opposite side of the couch as tyler, she brought her legs up and crossed them indian-style.
"hey mark," veronica said. "sorry i fell asleep."
it was weird, but tyler could not keep his eyes off of her. even after she just woke up so abruptly, she looked flawless.
"fudge, are you serious? that is so annoying. I don-" veronica started but must have got cut off by a frantic mark on the other side of the phone.
"sure, give me their number and i will call them now." she said and hung up the phone, immediately bringing her hands up to her temples and rubbing them.
she must have a migraine, tyler thought to himself.
"what's going on with mark?" tyler asked, quietly so it would not hurt her head.
veronica sighed and removed her hands from her head, placing them on her knees and looked over at tyler. "the arena tonight is trying to say you can't walk through the crowd to get to stage b or stand on the crowd for holding onto you. they don't want you or josh going into the crowd for trees, either. they also said that we can't have three green rooms in the back."
"why though? they can't just-" he started.
"hold on. mark wants me to try and call the arena director and see if i can reason with her. she was apparently rude to mark and brad earlier, so wish me luck." veronica scoffed, typing in the phone number and pressing call once again.
tyler was watching and listening, fully ready to get on the phone himself to yell at them if they are even a little rude to veronica.
"hi, this is veronica lodge. i'm with twenty one pilots, is melissa there?" she asked. "great, thank you."
tyler smiled smally at her when they made brief eye contact.
"hi melissa, i'm veronica lodge." she said, stopping to listen to the response from so-called bitchy melissa. "yes, i understand that completely. and i agree, safety is the biggest concern. i would just like to let you know that the boys have done all three of these actions for 94 shows now and have never had any issues. the fans expect it and know about the proper safety procedures, the boys trust them and they trust the boys. we-"
melissa must have cut veronica off. she glanced at tyler and playfully rolled her eyes, uncrossing her legs and stretching them out in front of her.
"yes. i understand. we can have a personal guard with each of the boys whilst they walk through the crowd. and our stage manager holds on to tyler the entire time that he-"
cut off. again. this time, tyler rolled his eyes.
"sure, that can work. i appreciate you try-"
cut off again, it took everything in tyler to not grab the phone and tell this melissa girl to be more respectful towards veronica.
"unfortunately, i don't think that will work. that defeats the whole purpose of why he does it in the first place. is there anythi-"
he wonders how veronica is holding her composure and not even giving attitude after already being interrupted three times. that's why she's the best assistant, tyler thought to himself. also, the prettiest.
"that's great. thank you. i will see you in a little bit, melissa. have a great day." veronica said, hanging up and tossing her phone on the couch.
"so what's happening?" tyler asked, finally moving into a sitting position instead of a half laying one.
"so," she started. "for holding onto you, they want two guards holding you from behind. which is fine. unnecessary, but fine. for trees, they want a guard holding on to each platform and want you to go no further than two rows in. and then when you guys walk to stage b, they don't want you to go through the crowd. they wanted to create a middle aisle of barriers for you to safely go through, which defeats the purpose of you even doing it because then you then can't interact with the fans. so they will allow you to walk through if you have two arena guards on either side and the spotlight on you."
tyler sighed, "wow i didn't realize it was their concert and not mine. we've never had any issues with the arenas."
veronica chuckled, "i know. it's stupid!" she stood up with her phone in hand. "but it's fixed. that's the best we can do." she smiled and turned to walk back to her bunk.
"thank you, ronnie!" tyler shouted, smiling. she put her hand in the air as a response.
what would i do without her? he thought.
