There was a shout behind me. "Wanda, don't let her get away!" It was Natasha.

I smirked; This "Wanda" would have to catch me first. I spotted a large window at the end of the hallway. Putting on a burst of speed, I prepared to teleport outside the window. I was nearly to the window when I felt myself being pulled back, though there was no one behind me. Squirming, I turned around to see what was holding me back.

Around my waist were red tendrils, snaking out and wrapping themselves around my stomach. They were gentle, like a mother's hold; Comforting yet unrelinquishing. I saw the brown-haired girl I had run into just moments before, Wanda, I guessed, holding me back. Not, physically, but... with mind-manipulated, telekinetic energy. How did I know? Well, maybe because, what's the word? SHE SHARED MY POWERS!

I twisted and turned, trying to get out of her hold, but I was lifted off my feet, a few inches in the air.

"Let go," I shrieked, panicking. I sent a small blast of blue energy Wanda's way. The older girl dodged easily, her own powers reeling me in. Without thinking, I suddenly teleported outside of her hold. I wasted no time running off down the hall. Before I could get far, though, I found myself trapped in a ruby sphere. Wanda's creation.

I couldn't do anything. As much as I tried to escape, Wanda kept drawing me back to where the Avengers were standing. When I reached the others, the bubble surrounding me popped, leaving me sitting on the floor like a little kid. I mean, I was only thirteen, sooooo....

I suddenly turned invisible, getting up and running. Before I could get far, I felt a hand clamp around my upper arm, and I was brought back. There was someone holding me down while another was strapping something around my ankle. There was a small beeping sound coming from the device and I felt myself turn visible again.

"Chloe, Chloe," came a soothing voice. "Chloe, listen to me." It was Natasha. "It's just a power inhibitor, okay? Director Fury just wants to talk to you."

Ha ha- no way. What if he gives me to the government for experiments?

As if she was reading my mind, Wanda spoke up. "Chloe," I turned to face her, my eyes wide with fear. "Chloe, we won't let him take you away. Promise."

I stopped squirming and was let up. We walked back to the living room for a chat. When we entered, there was a man standing behind the island, having a drink. He downed the shot and sighed, before glaring at our group.

He was of medium build, wearing a black trench coat, black shirt, black pants, black shoes, black... everything. Give this guy a hook for a hand and he'd be a pirate. Scratch that; He's be a bald pirate. Seriously, the man already had an eyepatch.

"Chloe Adler," Pirate addressed me.

"Director Nick Fury, of SHIELD." I said calmly, keeping my voice even and flat.

"Please, have a seat."

I walked over to the bar and clambered onto the high stool. The other Avengers found a seat by the island or on the couch. Once everyone was seated, Fury started.

"Miss Adler, it has come to my attention, and that of SHIELD's, that there is a new enhanced force causing a disturbance in New York. Would said force be you?"

"That would depend on who's asking," I said coldly, trying to disguise my fear.

"Miss Adler, I highly suggest you not play games with me. If you do not cooperate, I'll have no problems resorting to other methods. So I'm going to ask you this once more; Were you, or were you not, part of the disturbance in New York."

Hesitating for only a second, I gave a single, shaky nod.

"Well then, Miss Adler," Fury's eyes bore into mine, his face an emotionless mask. "You're going to have to come with us."

"No!" A shriek tore its way out of my throat as the room filled with agents. Some brandished guns loaded with tranquilizer darts. "I'm not dangerous, I'm not a threat!" Two grabbed my arms, one on either side of me. Squirming, I kicked the one on my right in his pride. He grunted, falling. I took the opportunity to backhand the other agent, trying to get as far away from them as possible.

I tried to turn invisible, but forgot I was wearing a power inhibitor. The end result was me standing still looking constipated for five seconds. Another agent chose that moment to tackle me to the ground. I let out a small shriek as I fell to the ground, not being able to get up. Fury was shouting orders and the Avengers were frozen in their seats. I was paralyzed with fear, not knowing what to do.

Suddenly, the weight vanished, as though someone was pulling the agent off me. I sucked in a shaky breath, sitting on the floor. The agent who had previously tackled me was lying beside me, unconscious. His resting face was one of discomfort, and he had a bloody nose; Knocked out. Above him stood the Black Widow, remnants of the man's blood splattered on her knuckles.

She gave the remaining agents a cold, hard look. They backed away slowly, lowering their weapons. Natasha glared Fury, sending him a look of... well... fury. I mean, there really was no other way to describe it.

"Director Fury, if all you're worried about is the threat Chloe possesses, then we'll take it from here."

My blood froze as Fury raised an eyebrow. "Oh? How so?"

"We'll be training her to become an Avenger."

I was shocked, to say the least. Did I hear right? Me? An Avenger?

Natasha helped me to my feet, putting an arm around my shoulder in a protective manner. "If you're so worried about Chloe being unable to control her abilities, then we'll train her how to do so."

Fury looked like he was trying to keep his temper under control. Natasha must've noticed, because she addressed it.

"Is there a problem, Director?"

"None at all, Romanoff." Came his forced reply. "But the moment Miss Adler becomes a problem," He glared at me, his gaze practically burning holes through my skull. "We'll be here."

He gave a curt nod before signalling to the other agents. They left silently, each marching in time with the others. Two people came to drag the unconscious agent out. I waited until they were gone before allowing myself a small smile.

"Nat, what were you thinking? Are you out of your mind?" Tony yelled. My face fell as I turned to look at him to see if he was joking; He was deadly serious.

"What, do you want Chloe to go with Fury?" Steve asked angrily.

Tony gave him a bemused look. "What? Of course I don't want Chloe to go with Fury, I was just asking Nat why she didn't beat that guy up even more. If I had known you would stop at a bloody nose, I would've stepped in and helped."

I smiled. "You really mean it?" I asked.

"That I would've beat that guy's butt, yeah."

"No, I meant, you mean I can stay?"

Tony thought about it before nodding. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm serious. Kid, we'll train you to become an Avenger."

It was the happiest day of my life.
