I woke up with burning pain in my back and neck. I looked around and saw that I fell asleep on the floor. I stood up and went to the bathroom, jumping when I saw myself in the mirror.

My hair was a mess, and my eyes were red and puffy from crying.

"Great," I mumbled, trying to run my hands through my tangled hair.

I heard a knock at the door, and I slowly walked towards the sound. I opened the door and peeked out.

   "Yes?" I said softly.

It was Layla. "Oh, Miss!" she cried, rushing in. "You need to clean up! Are you alright?"

I nodded and looked at the ground. "I'm fine, Layla. Just a little tired."

Layla frowned and looked at my clothes. "Did you sleep on the floor?" she asked.

I blinked and nodded slowly, embarrassed. "How... how did you know?"

Layla smiled motherly. "Well, your back is slouched and your clothes are really wrinkled," she explained.

I looked down and saw a lot of wrinkles. She was right.

Layla took my hands and guided me towards the restroom while handing me some pajamas.

I cocked my head and looked at her weirdly. "It's not time to sleep yet, Layla," I said while raising my eyebrow.

Layla smiled. "I know, but I think you should just rest for today. I don't think you got that much sleep judging from the dark circles under your eyes."

I looked down and nodded, disappointed in myself. "I'm sorry," I said weakly.

Layla clicked her tongue and closed the door, leaving me in the restroom.

I sighed and turned the tub on, watching as the water flowed into it. I put some flower petals in and some scents to clear my mind. I took my wrinkled robe off and went into the tub, sighing in satisfaction as the warm water engulfed me.

Suddenly, flashbacks of what happened the previous night flooded my thoughts. "Great," I mumbled.

Maxon was mad at me, Kriss was pretty much my enemy, and I wanted to go home. Perfect. Just perfect.

A tear rolled down my face, and I wiped it off while laughing sadly. A few more tears escaped my eyes, but they were more like angry tears than sad tears.

After soaking for a bit then washing my hair and body, I put my pajamas on and walked out while drying my hair with a towel.

Fawn and Evelyn were tidying up my room while Layla was sewing a new dress together. Fawn looked up as the door opened, and Evelyn and Layla followed right after.

"Miss Y/N," Fawn said, curtsying gracefully.

Evelyn and Layla did the same.

"Hello, girls." I smiled, and they smiled back. Though, there seemed to be an awkward tension in the room. "Is something wrong?"

Evelyn spoke up first. "We just wanted to make sure everything was alright with you. After what happened last night..."

   I laughed nervously.

"We just wanted to make sure you were okay!" Fawn said.

I felt a lump in my throat and my eyes started to get blurry with tears. I opened my arms to invite the trio for a hug.

They walked towards me with outstretched arms, and we all gave each other a group hug.

"Thank you," I whispered. "Thank you for everything."

The tears I was trying desperately to hold in escaped, and I began to sob quietly.

Maxon's POV

I looked around the dining hall in hopes of seeing Y/N. But I didn't. My shoulders slumped as I picked at my food; my will to eat was gone.

"What's wrong, Maxon? You seem worried," Mother said, grabbing my hand and rubbing it reassuringly.

I smiled at her and shook my head. "It's nothing. At least, it's not really that... important."

Mother sighed. "Maxon, I know when something is bothering you. You're so tense when you worry. It's not good for you," she said gently.

I smiled at her again, this time more convincingly. "It's nothing, Mother. It's just something about the Selection, that's all. Nothing I can't handle," I said confidently.

Mother nodded slowly and smiled back. "Alright then. If you say so."

I looked at my food and started to eat small bites in order to convince Mother I was alright. I smiled happily as I put a small part of the strawberry tart in my mouth, and I immediately thought about Y/N.

My smile faltered, and I suddenly stood up which made my father glare at me.

"Maxon!" he exclaimed softly. "What's wrong?"

I looked around and cleared my throat. "I just remembered I have to do something very important. Please, excuse me," I stated, bowing before walking out of the dining hall and up the grand staircase. Towards Y/N's room.

Your POV

I laughed as Evelyn pouted and threw her cards down in frustration.

"This isn't fair!" she cried. "I'm always the first one to get out!"

We all burst into laughter. "It's not our fault you're bad at cards," Layla said teasingly.

Evelyn sighed and laid down. "'It's not our fault you're bad at cards'," Evelyn repeated, a mocking tone in her voice.

I laughed, but it was interrupted by a knock at the door.

Layla and Evelyn hurriedly picked the cards up and put them into a basket while Fawn ent to open the door.

I stood up and walked to my bed as Fawn curtsied and opened the door widely, revealing Maxon.

He nodded at the trio, and the rushed out the door while whispering to each other.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "What are you doing here?" I said, venom in my voice.

Maxon sighed and walked towards me. "I just wanted to apologize about last night. I wasn't thinking straight-"

   "You definitely weren't."

"-and I just wanted to apologize for being a jerk. You are an amazing and beautiful person, and I shouldn't have said those things to you. I also shouldn't have said that I would find someone who I actually like... because the only person I like is you. I'm really sorry. Will you forgive me?" he said softly.

   I nodded.

"And I'm also sorry for forcing you to stay here. You... You can leave if you want. I won't force you to stay if you don't want to," he added.

I smiled. "Well, in that case..."

Maxon's eyes filled with fear and regret, and he opened his mouth.

   "... I forgive you."

1076 words! I'm really sorry I haven't updated in a really long time! I went to the Philippines for three weeks, and my aunt's wifi wasn't as great as it is here where I live. Like, it was so bad that I couldn't even go on Wattpad without having to turn airplane mode on my phone and turning off the wifi on my phone. And even when I did that, I could only read storied in my library.  Nothing else would load. So, I'm really sorry about that. Anyways, don't forget to vote and comment! Have a wonderful day!
