WARNING: There will be some profanity in this chapter along with some dirty humor
Maxon's POV
It had been a few hours after the attack, and I hadn't seen Y/N since she ran outside. The guards have been searching for her since then, but there was no trace of her.
"Where is she? Did you find her?" I asked the head of the guards urgently.
My hair was messed up, and my eyes were tired.
He shook his head. "I'm sorry, Sir, but they haven't yet."
I ran my hand through my hair and paced around my room repeatedly. "Where could she be?" I asked myself.
There was a subtle knock on the door, and the maid quickly opened it, revealing a guard.
I looked up. "Did you find anything?" I cried.
The guard shook his head. "The only things we could find were her shoes and a piece of her dress that was caught on a branch in the forest, Your Highness," he said softly.
I gripped my hair as tears welled in my eyes. "Find her," I whispered.
The guard frowned. "I'm sorry, Your Highness, what was that?"
I gasped. "FIND HER!" I roared, flinging a pillow across the room. I looked in the mirror and saw that tears stained my cheeks and my eyes were bloodshot from crying.
The guards flinched as the maid whimpered quietly.
"Of all the people," I muttered. "Of all the people, why her?!" I screamed. I grasped a nearby vase and chucked it at the wall.
My father burst into the room after the vase shattered, and he gripped my shoulders tightly. "Maxon!" he scolded. "What is wrong with you? You're overreacting about this whole thing! She's just a Six! There are plenty of other contestants-"
"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? I love her, Dad! She isn't someone I can just replace! And why, why do you always go back to the caste? That doesn't matter anymore! What matters here is that the love of my life is missing and possibly in danger! How selfish can you be?" I screamed at him, watching his face contort into anger.
"Why you little-"
"JUST GET OUT! ALL OF YOU!" My hands shook as tears ran down my face. My mind was blank; the only thing I could think of was Y/N.
Her soft, h/c hair, her beautiful e/c eyes...
Impatient, I grabbed my coat and stormed outside my room, ignoring the calls of my father and the guards. I ran outside and into the woods in search of Y/N.
"'If there was a rebel attack'," she once told me, "'I would probably hide in a tree.'"
I smelled a slight hint of perfume and decided to follow it. It led me to a tall tree, and I winced as I stepped on something sharp.
When I looked down to see what I stepped on, my heart stopped.
A bigger branch was on the forest floor, and it had an arrow lodged in it.
I looked up and saw that the tree had a little stump on it where the branch used to be. I inspected the branch with the arrow and could only conclude one thing: Y/N hid on the branch, and someone shot the branch so she would fall.
My heart pounded as a small trail of blood stained the forest ground, and I started to follow it.
The trail stopped beside a river, and I leaped in, not caring about my clothes. The trail was no longer seen on the other side of the river, and I hit the water in frustration.
I froze when a group of people behind some bushes started talking.
"They found her, right?" one asked. "Did the boss go back to the castle?"
I frowned and sank lower into the water so they wouldn't see me.
"Apparently, they did. They found her hiding in a tree. Hah, dumb bitch. Why would you hide in a tree? You don't got no place to go," the other one answered.
I sneered.
"Did Spencer shoot her down?"
"Yeah."
"Ah, he was always a good shooter. 'Specially with those bows and arrows. Always hit them target's bullseye when he shot."
"The boss was with him when he shot her down. He was probably tryin' to impress her. He always wanted to get in her pants. Or, in this case, her dress. Get it?"
"Harry, your humor ain't funny. It was never funny, and it ain't gonna be funny."
I had the urge to punch one of the guys, but I restrained myself from doing so.
"What are they gonna do to her? I know they're gonna kill her, but what'll they do before?"
The other one chuckled. "Spencer'll probably have his fun with her. Probably satisfy himself since he didn't get to with the boss."
They laughed and started to walk away.
I couldn't help myself and pulled the knife out of my coat. The coat I took with me had an arrangement of weapons in case of emergencies.
I threw the dagger at one of the men and watched as it hit the square of his back. He fell down instantly and started to twitch.
"Harry? What happened?"
I grabbed another dagger and chucked it at the other man, cringing when it hit his head.
Sorry, I thought and took the knife out of the man's back.
The man was still alive.
"Where did they take her?" I asked, grabbing him by his collar.
The man stuttered, "C-Carolina!" he spat out "They took her to Carolina! In the lower castes-"
The man went limp, and I let go of him, disgusted by what I did. I slowly backed away and found a group of people running towards me.
I swam across the river quickly and ran through the forest, jumping over spare branched and being careful to avoid the arrow. I ran back into the castle and burst through the door.
I looked at the head of the guards with determination. "Set up a search party. We're going to Carolina."
