I probably fell asleep on the ride home because I woke up in my bed at the palace. I slowly sat up and cringed at how tight my neck was. I slowly tilted my head to the side, sighing in relief as a satisfying pop was heard throughout the room.
It was dark outside, and I slowly made my way out of the bed, careful not to put too much weight on my ankle. My leg was wrapped from where Spencer shot me, and blood was seeping through the bandage.
"Great," I mumbled, scratching the back of my neck.
I held onto the headboard of the bed as I stood up and winced when my leg started to throb. I limped my way towards the door and opened it quietly.
"Excuse me," I started, making the guard outside my door flinch a little. "Sorry to bother you but could I get some new bandages? And maybe some medicine, please?"
The guard looked at my leg and nodded. "Of course, Miss. I will have them as soon as possible," he said, walking down the hall.
I went back inside my room and plopped down on my chair, resting my elbows on the armrests.
A loud bang was heard from outside, and I flinched at the sound, remembering the gunshots at the warehouse.
"Y/N?"
I jumped in my chair and turned immediately to see the owner of the voice. I then sighed.
"Aspen," I said, "you can't just sneak up on me like that."
He chuckled in response and walked over to me, bandages, and medicine in hand.
"Sorry 'bout that. You just looked... out of it," he explained.
I chuckled awkwardly. "I was just thinking about stuff." I shrugged and held my arm out to grab the medicine.
Aspen pulled his hand out of my reach. "Uh uh. This is my job." He kneeled down and started unwrapping the bloody cloth from my leg.
"I thought your job is protecting the castle and all that good stuff," I questioned.
"Yeah, but us guards were trained in first aid, you know."
I nodded and looked at the door. "Have you seen Maxon today?" I asked, (trying to hide my disappointment when Maxon didn't burst into my room and declare his undying love for me while telling me how worried he was to see his love die-)
Aspen nodded. "He actually came to check up on you a few times, but you were obviously still sleeping. He stayed in here for a few hours," he added.
At that, I blushed madly and smiled.
"Well, you're all set. I know declare thee discharged from Aspen's clinic," Aspen dramatically said.
I laughed. "Thanks, Aspen."
"Of course, Miss," he said before giving me a bow and exiting the room.
I sighed after he left and limped towards the window, sitting down on the little window-side seat.
I trailed my finger on the glass and watched the leaves on the bushes below dance in the wind.
"Why are you awake?"
I jolted up and glared at the window, not bothering to look at who it was. "Can you stop that, Aspen? Literally-"
"Who's Aspen?"
I immediately looked at the speaker and saw Maxon, a smile tugging at his lips. "Maxon!"
I sprang up from the seat and internally cursed when my leg gave out.
Maxon sprinted towards me and wrapped his arms around my waist to catch me. "Please be careful, my love. I don't want to see you get hurt anymore," he whispered lowly, making me send shivers down my spine.
"Why are you here?" I questioned.
Maxon smiled and carried me to my bed. "I think it's pretty obvious why I'm here, love. I wanted to see you," he said, smiling and kissing me deeply.
I kissed him back and internally screamed.
"In all seriousness," Maxon continued, "are you alright? I'm sorry I couldn't be there; my father made me do all this paperwork and-"
"Maxon," I said, interrupting him, "it's all right! I came back in one piece, didn't I?" I gave him a reassuring smile which he didn't return.
"Y/N. You were almost killed. By Kriss! And you got shot! You did come back in one piece, but it broke my heart to see you like that, darling. You know you mean everything to me," he whispered, caressing my cheeks in his hands.
I smiled and grabbed his hands. "I know. And you mean everything to me, Maxon. You really do."
Maxon smiled and kissed my forehead lovingly. "Can I sleep in here tonight? I want to make up for all our time lost," he said softly.
I nodded a bit too enthusiastically. "Of course!" I almost yelled. I then cleared my throat. "O-Of course," I repeated, calmly this time.
Maxon chuckled and stood up, grabbing my hands gently. "Then you better get changed, darling. I don't think you want to sleep in a muddy dress, do you? A nightgown would be much more comfortable," he suggested, a playful smile on his lips.
I looked down at my clothes and saw that he was right-I still had my dress on. "Oh. I-I should get changed, yeah." I tried to hide the flush on my cheeks as I walked to my closet, grabbing the first nightgown I saw which was a flowy f/c nightgown.
I then limped towards my bathroom and tried to ignore Maxon's stares as I closed the door. I quickly took my dress ff and replaced it with my nightgown. I then brushed my teeth and washed my face to get rid of the dirt and grime. I also put my hair into a braid and walked out of the bathroom.
"All done?" Maxon said, already beneath the covers.
I blushed deeply and nodded, awkwardly climbing into the bed beside him. I then shifted so there was a small space in between us, but that was quickly dejected as Maxon wrapped his arms around my waist.
"No need to feel embarrassed, love~" Maxon cooed. "You'll have to get used to this. Because I'm gonna do this every night," he said, nuzzling his face into the crook of my neck.
I swallowed hard and laughed nervously. "R-Right. No need to f-feel embarrassed..."
My voice trailed off as I heard Maxon's tiny snores. Wow, I thought. He falls asleep fast... Lucky...
I then closed my eyes and wrapped my arms around Maxon's torso.
Am I doing this right? Won't my arm fall asleep if it's under him?
All my thoughts were forced away as darkness took over and put me into a deep sleep.
1101 wordsssss. Hahahahahaha I am so very very sorry for not updating- Literally, the only "reason" I had was that I was procrastinating- Also, I might end the book in a few chapters because I honestly don't wanna write about the whole trial thing and stuff cause I am L A Z Y which is probably a bad thing.
