The next week was... well... tiring. The whole week was filled with officials preparing me for the Selection. Many officials, including guards, went to my house to simply talk about security measures and the Selection itself.

A woman named Silvia called and asked if we needed anything. And in my opinion, she sounded very businesslike, like she wanted everything to be perfect.

A man came to take my measurements, and he was probably my favorite from all of them. From that moment, I knew I had to say goodbye to pants.

Two days before I had to leave to the Selection, the last of the officials came to ask me a few questions and to tell me the rules.

"Um, welcome in," I said to the man, gesturing for him to go inside.

He nodded and obliged, looking around my little house. "Do you have anywhere private we can talk? Oh, and the little one should go, too," he said, smoothing the invisible wrinkles off his shirt.

Isa looked at me, her eyes wide. "Y/N..." she said softly.

I smiled awkwardly. "It's okay, Isa. Just... go to your room and draw something. You like drawing, right?"

She nodded and sighed sadly before going to her room.

The man cleared his throat. "I'm sorry for that, but there are some things that aren't... healthy for young ears," he said.

I chuckled nervously and gestured him to sit down on the sofa.

He did, the sofa creaking slightly as he sat down. "Now, onto business. I know this may sound harsh, but starting from right now, you are property of Illéa. You must take care of your body from now on, meaning you have to take a few pills everyday because of your... unhealthy living condition. I also have a few firms I need you to sign as we go on. Any failure to do your part will result in immediate removal from the competition. Do you understand?" he said.

I nodded, getting a little bored. "Yes," I said.

He smiled. "Alright. Now, please sign here to say that you received the pills." He handed me a form along with a pen.

I signed it quickly and handed the form back to him.

"I have your physical, and it seems that you are in excellent health, which is, well, excellent. Now, I know this is very personal, but I've already discussed this with every contestant, so please don't be shy," he stated.

I nodded, cocking  my head a little.

He lowered his voice down to a whisper. "I need to confirm that you are, in fact, a virgin."

I couldn't help it. I bursted out laughing. "Really?" I said, wiping my eyes.

"I'm afraid so. I need to know immediately if you're not," he said, raising his eyebrow.

I stopped laughing and cleared my throat. "Sir, the last time I talked to a boy was when I talked to the photographer, and I kind of had to talk to him," I said, smiling.

The man blinked. "So... is that a yes or a no?"

I blinked back. "Um, I'm a virgin..." I said, my voice trailing off.

"Alright then. I just need you to sign this form, and we'll move on," he said.

I nodded and took the form from him, signing it.

"Now that we're done with that, I need to go over the rules with you. They are very straightforward, but id you have any questions, feel free to ask," he said.

    "Got it."

"You can't leave the palace whenever you'd like. You have to be dismissed by the price himself. Even the king and queen can't force you out. They can give their opinions to the prince, but the prince makes the decision.

"Also, there is no scheduled time for the Selection. It can last for days, weeks, months, or even years."

   "Wow," I said. "Years, huh?"

The man nodded. "It might not go on for that long, but remember: love takes time."

   I cringed.

"You do not arrange times with the prince. He arranges the times if he wants it," he said.

   I nodded.

"No one expects you to get along with the other contestants, but under no circumstance will you fight with them. If you are caught, the prince will decide whether you stay or not."

"That'll be easy, considering I don't really talk to people that much," I said, grinning.

The man raised his eyebrow again, and my smile faded. Kill joy, I thought.

"Anyways, your only romantic relationship will be with the prince. If you are caught in another relationship, that is considered by treason and is punishable by death," he said.

Well then, I thought, another easy one.

"If you are found breaking any of our country's laws, it is also punishable by death. Just because you are one of the Selected doesn't mean you are exempted from the laws," he said, starting to sound a little bored.

"You mustn't wear any clothes or eat any food that is not provided by the palace. There's no punishment for it; it's only for security."

"Aww, so I can't wear any of my clothes?" I asked, thinking about all the comfy pants I had.

The man chuckled. "On Fridays, you will be broadcasted on the Capital Report. There might be some photographing, so I'm giving you a heads up on that.

"For each week of the Selection, your family will receive money. I will give you your first check before I go. Also, if you happen to leave the Selection early, an aide will help you adjust to your normal life."

It was my turn to raise my eyebrow.

"If you make it to the top ten, you will be an Elite. Once you reach that status, you will have to learn about being a princess. From this moment on, you are now a Three."

"Wow," I said. "A Three? Dang... that's like, half my caste now," I laughed.

The man chuckled along with me. "Yes, we have found out that most of the Selected have difficulties going back to their normal lives. You are a Three, but the rest of your family are still Sixes. If you win, you and your entire family will be Ones."

"Ones," I whispered, just imagining the palace life.

"And if you make it to the end, you will marry Prince Maxon and be the princess of Illéa. Do you understand?"

   "Crystal clear," I said, smiling.

"Very good. Now, since you are the eldest here right now, sign this form to say you've received all the rules. And also sign this form saying you received the check."

He handed me the check, and I was shocked. Ten-thousand... Wow.

He grabbed his forms and stood up. "Thank you for your time. And also," he lowered his voice, "when you are invited to do something with the prince, you will not refuse. Whether it's kisses or even more, you will not turn him down."

"Seriously?" I said, lowering my voice to a whisper.

"I know it sounds... unwelcoming, but he's the prince."

   I gulped.

"I'll be on my way. And, Ms. L/N, good luck." And with that, he opened the front door and left.

"No way," I whispered. "Is the prince... a pervert?"

1211 words! Yay! I know this chapter might've been a little boring, but I promise you, the next will be a bit more... eventful. NONE of The Selection belongs to me. There are just some people who want to ban certain fanfics because of copyright, so I'm just saying that. Don't forget to vote and comment! Anyways, have a wonderful day!
