I was greeted by a hug the second the door to the safe room opened.
"Y/N! Are you alright?" Isa asked, her grip on me tightening.
I embraced her and nodded. "I'm alright. What about Mom? Is she okay?" I asked.
Isa nodded. "She's resting. The doctor told her not to take it too far with the walking, but we had to run to the other safe room," she explained.
I sighed and released her. I grabbed her shoulders and smiled gently. "Thank you for taking care of her, Isa. I'm very proud of you."
Isa beamed.
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Well, hello there, Isa. Your sister told me all about you," Maxon said, crouching down a little. "You're very pretty. Just like your sister."
Isa blushed and averted her gaze a little. "Thank you, Your Highness," she mumbled slowly.
I chuckled and grabbed her hand. "Come on, I'll show you my room."
Maxon grabbed my hand and squeezed it before walking towards the king and queen.
I tugged on Isa's arm and guided her to the grand staircase. I grinned as Isa gasped in awe. I led her up the stairs and to my room.
The door opened as we approached it.
"Miss Y/N! There you are! We just finished tidying up the mess that the Rebels made!" Layla said.
Layla looked to my side and saw Isa. "Oh! Looks like we have a visitor! You're Isa, right?"
Isa smiled shyly and nodded.
Layla beamed and pulled her in the room, gesturing to Fawn. Layla then took my hands as Fawn led Isa into the room.
"The royal family is requesting to see all the Selected in a few hours. It's very important," she said softly.
I nodded. "Do you know what it's for?" I asked, cocking my head.
Layla looked away. "Yes, but I am not allowed to say. Someone with much greater power has ordered me," she said softly.
I looked over her shoulder at Isa and sighed. "Is it bad?" I asked.
Layla looked at the ground and nodded slightly. "In your case, it is."
I stiffened. "Bad... for me? Like, me individually or the Selected?" I asked quickly.
Layla shook her head. "I cannot say, Miss. You'll just have to find out for yourself."
My heart rate quickened, and I put my hand to my chest and felt the thumping of my heart. I closed my eyes slowly and breathed in deeply. Think happy thoughts, Y/N, think happy thoughts, I thought. I then nodded and opened my eyes.
"Alright. When do I have to go?" I asked.
Layla looked at the wall clock in my room. "In about an hour. You still have time," she said.
I nodded and looked over her shoulder to see Isa and Fawn laughing. I smiled.
"I'll just go to the library, them. You know, to clear my mind a bit."
Layla nodded and curtsied. "Of course, Miss."
I told her to tell Isa where I was going and left. I headed towards the library and fiddled with my fingers on the way there. I took lots of deep breaths in order to try to calm myself down a bit.
