I stirred in my sleep and found a pair of arms wrapped around my waist. Sleepily, I wiggled out of Maxon's grasp slowly so he wouldn't wake up and stepped out of bed.Maxon's hair was sticking up due to his tossing and turning, and I smiled softly as his lips turned downwards in a pout. His eyes twitched slightly, and I pulled the blanket over him more so he could sleep in.
He probably doesn't get that much sleep, I thought, wanting to let him sleep in.
It was already 8 O' clock, so I assumed Sylvia let me sleep in, too.
I stretched my arms over my head and shook my hands to put life back into them since they fell asleep. "Gosh," I said softly.
I quietly made my way to my bathroom and started to wash my face and tame my bed hair. I put it in a braid and swiftly changed out of my nightgown into a casual dress.
"I wonder where the trio is," I mumbled, grabbing my toothbrush and toothpaste from the drawer.
After that, I went back outside to find Maxon sitting on the edge of the bed.
He looked up, and his face brightened. "There you are, darling. I thought you had left me," he said, his voice low and husky.
I blushed and laughed nervously. "Nope! I was just... uh... getting ready!" I said, pointing my finger up to the sky.
I mentally facepalmed. Haha, that was so awkward, Y/N.
Maxon chuckled and stood up, snaking his arms around my waist. "You look adorable with bed hair," he whispered lowly, sending shivers down my spine.
"When did you-"
"I woke up a little earlier than you but then went back to sleep, love. The light from the sunrise really makes you even more beautiful, you know," he said softly.
I blushed even more and buried my face in his chest. I heard him chuckle softly.
Then, there was a knock at the door.
"Y/N, Layla told me to tell you-"
Aspen stood in the doorway with a basket of fabric in his clutches.
"Your Highness! I'm so sorry to intrude!" He bowed at a ninety-degree angle and apologized profusely.
"It's alright, Officer. However, I don't appreciate how you address Lady Y/N. It sounds informal." Maxon's gaze seeped through Aspen as he trembled in fear.
"No, no, Maxon! Aspen's a friend! He was the guard that saved me during the Rebel attacks," I explained, waving my hands in front of me.
Maxon looked at me strangely before looking back at Aspen. "My apologies, Officer Leger. I didn't realize you were Y/N's friend."
Aspen chuckled nervously. "It's quite alright, Your Highness. It was just a misunderstanding," he said.
Maxon eyed me and responded. "Right. A misunderstanding."
Aspen blinked a few times before handing the basket to me. "It's a new dress that Layla and Fawn made. They want you to wear it to dinner today," Aspen explained.
I took the basket from him and thanked him. I put the basket on the floor and pulled the dress out, gaping at the soft lavender color of the dress.
The dress itself was lined with embroidered flowers on the bottom as well as the hem of the top of the dress.
"Thank you, Aspen. I will make sure to thank Layla and Fawn later," I said, gently putting the dress onto the bed.
Aspen nodded and bowed before exiting the room.
"Ah," Maxon said softly, "I have to go now. See you at dinner."
With that, he left, slightly slamming the door behind him.
Time Skip
I finished putting the dress on with help from Evelyn and smiled at my reflection in the mirror. "What's the special occasion?" I asked Fawn as she finished tying a bow with the belt of my dress.
"There's not really a special occasion, Miss. We just thought you might like a nicer dress to wear for tonight," she explained softly.
I nodded and stepped into my shoes once I was done. "Thank you for everything," I said to the trio.
I walked out of the room and hit a hard surface. "Aspen! Sorry about that hehe," I said.
Aspen put his hands on my arms to steady me as I almost fell.
I smiled up at him. "So, how are you and America?" I asked mischievously.
He put his hands on my shoulders and smiled blissfully. "She's amazing, Y/N! She's been sending letters to me for a while now, and she tells me all the stories that happened to her! They're pretty entertaining."
I laughed. "You should let me read them," I said, smiling back.
"Y/N?"
I looked to my left and saw Maxon. "Oh! Maxon! I was just heading to dinner-"
"Why are you with him?"
Maxon's eyes were flaming as I tilted my head to the side.
"Oh, Aspen was just helping me not fall! You see-"
"Oh, I can see, Y/N. You do know that this crime is punishable by death, right? Don't you remember what happened to Marlee?" he said, venom seeping out of his words.
"What are you talking about, Maxon? Aspen and I were just talking?" I said questionably.
Maxon growled. "'Just talking'? You've been 'just talking' for months now. Don't think I haven't noticed it. He's been going in your room and talking to you longer than guards should be." He raised his voice a little, making me even more confused.
"Um, Maxon, he's my friend. It's only natural that we talk, you know? And he's also-"
"'Friend'? Do friends hug each other in the hallway? Do friends do that? I don't think so!"
"Your Highness, allow me to explain-"
"You do not have my permission to talk," Maxon growled.
Aspen swallowed and eyed me. He pursed his lips slightly, and I shook my head slightly.
"Maxon, just listen to me, please," I said softly, taking a step closer to him subconsciously.
Maxon took a step back. "Explain what? How you're cheating on me?!" he yelled.
I frowned. "No. Because I'm not."
"Yes, you are-"
"No! Maxon, he's my cousin! I've been trying to tell you that, but you keep going on and jumping to conclusions!" I finally said.
Maxon blinked. "He... is?"
"Yes!" I said exasperated.
"I... I am so sorry, Y/N. And Officer Leger. I just... I was so scared and worried and..." Maxon hung his head low as his shoulders shook.
"It's okay, Maxon. It was just a misunderstanding," I said. "I'm just glad you didn't try to kill me for treason."
Maxon stepped closer to me and engulfed me in his arms. "I would never."
I heard someone hum, and I looked back at Aspen.
"Well, I better get going now. Uh, see you later, Cuz!" Aspen speed-walked through that halls, leaving me and Maxon giggling.
1138 words! HA!!! Soooo I've rewritten this chapter about... SIX times because I kept changing the end of the story. Now, the end of the story is completely different from my first ending! Isn't that great! It took kind of a long time to come up with it, so I hope you like it! Mwahaha. Anyways, I hope everyone is staying safe and well! Have a great day!
