On the last day of the trip, just before the Stevie Nicks concert, Emerys found herself leading Killian into her favourite Voodoo shop.
"A tourist-y trip to New Orleans isn't complete without visiting at least one Voodoo shop." She said as she opened the door, the bell above jingling away.
"Voodoo and the like has always got me quite curious. There's something about magic that has the ability to peak my interest." Killian smiled.
"Good. The we're going to have a field day in here." Emerys grinned, turning to the shop owner, who sat patiently at the tiny counter on the other side of the shop. "Hello Theodora."
"Emerys! How good to see you, dear! It's been a while. I thought you moved across country?" The old woman with the greying dyed lilac hair greeted her favourite customer.
"I did, to Maine, in fact. So on that note, I'd like to introduce you to Killian, my boyfriend." The girl smiled.
Theodora rose from her seat and approached the couple.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Killian. How have you enjoyed New Orleans?" She shook his hand.
"It's been an experience like no other, thank you, Theodora." Killian told her.
Theodora nodded her response.
"So child, what brings you to my humble little shop?" She turned back to Emerys.
"Well, we fly back tomorrow morning and I couldn't bring Killian here without taking him to see my favourite Voodoo Queen." Emerys chuckled.
"What an honour. It's so good to see you again, dear." Theodora smiled before turning to one of her shelves. "Here, take these. I don't imagine there are many magic shops in Maine."
She handed the girl a small decorated bag, filled with semi-precious stones, a red candle and a black one, a few bags of herbs and a tiny little bird skull.
"Wow. Thank you Theodora. These would be perfect for my alter." Emerys grinned excitedly.
Theodora turned back to the many things in her shop and picked out something special.
"And for you, Killian. I give you this. You look like a dreamer. So make sure they're safe." She gave a playful smirk, handing him a large black and gold dreamcatcher.
"Thank you very much. I shall hang it above my bed with pride." Killian chuckled.
"You two dears go about your day. No use being stuck inside with an old woman. Especially on your last day in town."
"I'll visit whenever I can, Theo." Emerys promised, giving the woman a tight hug. "I love you."
"I love you too, dear. Have a wonderful day, both of you." The old woman smiled, grabbing Killian's hand and giving it a squeeze.

Outside the shop, Killian wrapped his arm over Emerys' shoulders, inspecting the dreamcatcher in the other.
"Did she make all of these herself?" He asked.
"She did. I used to come in and help her, but she seems to be doing just fine without me." Emerys chuckled, looking over the contents of her bag.
"Emerys?" A voice from a few feet behind them caught their attention.
Emerys swung round and saw someone she'd rather not.
"Jake... Hey." She sighed.
"I've been trying to call you for months, baby. Why haven't you answered?" He smiled, moving closer and leaning in.
Before he could get his mouth anywhere near hers, Emerys held her hands up and pushed him away, defensively.
"Woah, Jake. No." She snapped.
Something peaked in Killian, he guided her slightly behind him.
"Get the fuck away from my girlfriend." He ordered.
"Killian, it's okay. He's just a little delusional." Emerys scowled.
"Delusional? Baby, come on. You're mine. Who's this poser?" The blonde haired boy laughed nervously.
Emerys barged past Killian.
"I told you before I moved. We're done. I know you're that shade of blonde and basic information doesn't really stick in either of those brain cells of yours, but that's the case. We're done. We have been for almost a year. Get over it."
"Actually, I believe your exact words were 'I'm moving. Goodbye Jake.' We never technically broke up. So ditch this loser and come back to my place with me. You have some making up to do." He winked.
"Fine. Since words don't seem to work with you, how about this?" Emerys glared, manoeuvring her body to get the perfect back hand in.
Jake staggered back a few paces, clutching his bright red cheek.
"You fucking slut. Go on. Do what you did to me to your new piece of ass. You know you will." Jake sneered, turning to Killian. "Do yourself a favour and run before you knock her up. She'll just run away like she always fucking does."
Killian looked to Emerys with widened eyes.
Emerys ceased eye contact with either of them.
"Drop dead, Jake." She muttered before storming off.

Back in the hotel room, Killian arrived thirty seconds after Emerys, who was pacing the room with tear stained cheeks, her fingers practically ripping her hair out.
"Emerys." Killian said, sternly. But no reply came, so he spoke louder. "Emerys!"
The girl hadn't been shouted at like that by him since the first day of school.
She stopped in her tracks and soon realised she could barely see him through the fresh tears at her waterline.
"I'm sorry..." She whispered.
"Tell me what the fuck just went on out there." He snapped.
"Please don't be angry..." Emerys sobbed, collapsing in a heap on the floor, instantly hugging her knees.
Killian couldn't help but feel a little bad, but he also felt that he deserved some answers.
"What happened?" He growled.
"Jake and I dated for six months." She sniffed, wiping her eyes. "He got me pregnant and got really mad when I told him, like it was my fault. He only got madder at me as time went on. I started feeling scared for my safety and just when I was about to leave him, I miscarried at eight weeks. I knew he was going to do something drastic if I told him the truth, so I lied and told him I had an abortion. He said it was for the best, even though he was still furious. He seemed understanding until something in him snapped and he... hit me. I did just tell him goodbye the week before I moved to Storybrooke, but he must've thought it was a 'bye, I'm moving across country' goodbye. But it wasn't. I was scared, Killian. I know, I should've told you and I'm sorry... I didn't mean for this to happen. I just wanted to forget it ever happened."
Killian's whole demeanour changed. He walked over to Emerys, scooped her up into his arms and placed her on the bed.
Instantly, she curled up, sobbing into the pillow, not caring that make up was getting all over its white cover.
He moved around to her other side and curled into her, spooning her tight to his body.
"Don't you dare apologise to me for something like that. If anyone should be saying they're sorry, it's me. I'm sorry I snapped at you, love." He mumbled into her hair, pushing some of it out of her face, tucking it gently behind her ear. "I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that alone, Em. But you don't anymore. I'm here for you and that is where I'll stay."
Emerys wiped her make up stained tears from her cheeks and rolled over to face him, placing her hand on his cheek.
"I have to be honest with you about something else, too." She whispered, not quite making eye contact with him.
Killian quickly grew nervous.
"What is it, love?" He asked.
"I was awake for longer than you thought the other night..." Killian's breath hitched. He hoped and prayed that she wasn't talking about he thought she was. "I heard what you said."
He sighed, hesitating with his words. "I love you."
Emerys looked directly into his eyes, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "I love you too."
