Emerys and Killian had decided that they were going to make their first public appearance in Storybrooke by going to Granny's for their date.
"I wasn't planning on our first in-town date to go like this." Emerys giggled.
"Well, you ladies do good food there and its somewhere we're both comfortable in." Killian shrugged as they walked down main street together.
"We do, I won't deny that." Emerys agreed. "Plus, it's technically the first place we met, so its special in that way too."
"Rightfully fitting, I'd say." He smiled.
They entered the diner and sat down in a booth, picking up a menu.
Already they were getting glances from the townsfolk, which mildly unsettled Emerys, but Killian didn't seem to be fazed.
"I think good old lasagne is in order." Killian glanced over his menu at the girl before him.
"You read my mind." Emerys raised an eyebrow, unable to hide the smile pricking the corners of her mouth.
"Hi there Emerys." Granny came over with a bright smile, pen and notepad.
She took one look at Killian and her smile faltered for split second.
"Hi Granny, could we get two lasagnes, a glass of rum and a coke please?" Emerys smiled back.
"Sure sweetie, no problem." She replied before scuttling off.
"Did you see her face?" Emerys said a little under her breath.
"I did. But don't mind what other people think. The only people who matter right now are you and me." Killian replied, leaning over the table to take her hand.
Emerys was beginning to think this was a bad idea. Despite her mother not being on duty, she couldn't help but feel like she could walk in at any moment.

After they had eaten, Emerys and Killian went to pay, but Granny had said the meal was on the house as a graduation gift, so the pair walked out full and happy.
As they walked down Main Street, Emerys felt Killian begin to walk closer to her side, his hand brushing hers with every step.
Eventually, she gave in and linked her fingers in his.
It was their first public display of affection and she told herself to enjoy it.
"Emerys?" The second to last voice the girl had wanted to hear that night rang in her ears.
The pair turned around to face her mother.
"Mom, hey." She said, nervously.
"What's this?" Her mother gestured to her daughter's hand in Killian's, looking far less than pleased.
"I... Mom, I can explain." Emerys stuttered.
"I want both of you at home right now. And you're going to explain what the fuck is going on to both me and your dad." Jocelyn snapped before turning on her heel and walking away.
Emerys was in shock. She'd never heard her mother cuss before.
"Oh God..." She breathed, shutting her eyes tight in the hopes that she might just disappear into nothingness.
"It's alright, love. We'll sort this." Killian told her, wrapping his arm over her shoulders to lead her back down the street.

Emerys stared at her front door from down the path like it was the first time she was ever seeing it... Or the last.
"Ready?" Killian asked, gripping her hand.
"For death, maybe." Emerys sighed, taking her first step onto the property.
"Emerys, please tell me what's going on. Your mother refuses to say anything." Her dad called from the living area as soon as the door was opened.
As soon as the pair appeared in the living room archway, the blood from James' face seemed to drain to his feet.
"Dad, let us explain, please." Emerys begged.
"I think you'd better." James replied. "Because I don't like where my mind is going right now."

Killian and Emerys sat on the couch opposite Jocelyn and James, the room filled with a heavy fog of anger and discomfort.
"So... For the record, we were going to tell you either today or within the next few days." Emerys began.
"Tell us what?" James more stated than asked.
"Killian and I..."
"Killian and you..." Jocelyn snorted, clearly refusing to believe what she was hearing.
"Mom, please. Killian and I are in love. We have been for a very long while now. But please, before you go all ape shit and disown me or whatever, let me explain. We met just after we moved to Storybrooke. We started seeing each other but, I promise you, neither of us knew that we were going to be teacher and student when we fell for each other. By the time we did, it was too late. We'd fallen hard. Killian tried to cut it off bu-"
"At the beginning of the school year? Is that why you fell into that depressive hole?" James asked.
Emerys nodded sadly. "That's what happens when we're a part. I don't need you to tell me that that is what love is. For that time, I was destroyed and, from what I heard, Killian wasn't much better either."
"I would just like to say..." Killian started.
"No." Jocelyn snapped. "I am talking to my daughter. You don't get to speak."
"Mom..." Emerys' eyes began to well with fresh tears. "I love him. You take that away from me and I will go right back to how I was in the beginning of the year only worse."
"You are not going to emotionally blackmail me into this one Emerys Taylor. Your teacher took advantage of you. For that, he will never be allowed to teach again and he most certainly isn't walking out of this house without a pair of handcuffs on." Jocelyn growled.
Emerys subconsciously grabbed Killian's hand at her words, a tell-tale sign that she was not giving him up without a fight.
"You go ahead and do that. But dad, not only will you lose one of the best teachers on your payroll, you'll lose your only daughter because I swear to God I will disown you."
"Emerys..." Killian sighed, squeezing her hand a little.
"No, I mean it." She turned to Killian. "Moving here and meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me Killian Jones. I will not lose you at my parent's hands. I just won't. I will fucking die before that happens."
James and Jocelyn watched as the scene unfolded before them, their heads trying their best to wrap their heads around the whole situation.
"Emerys..." Her dad spoke up.
Emerys turned back to her parents.
"Jocelyn, I don't know about you, but I'm not willing to lose my only child over this. If Killian Jones is what makes my daughter happy, then so be it. She's graduated now. There's nothing I'm willing to do to further this." James said.
Jocelyn turned away from the small group, attempting to think.
"I don't want to lose her either..." She eventually sighed.
Emerys and Killian both took a huge mental sigh of relief.
"We can go to dinner sometime soon." Killian suggested. "On me. We can talk about whatever you want and you can see first-hand how good we are for each other. I promise with every ounce of my being, I will prove to you how much I love your daughter Mr and Mrs Taylor and that I will take care of her."
"There's one more thing." Emerys mumbled. Her parents' gaze turned to her. "Killian asked me to move in with him today. He gave me a key as a graduation present and I said yes."
There was a moment's silence in the room.
"Best get packing then, kiddo. As much as I disapprove, I can see that you're happy and I want the best for you. If that's Killian, then so be it. I can't and won't argue with it." Her dad gave a small, slightly uncertain smile. "And as for dinner, Killian, I think that would be a good idea."

Back at Killian's later that evening, the pair laid in bed in each other's arms.
"I don't think that could've gone much better." Killian breathed a chuckle.
"No. But there's still the slightly unspoken matter of your job. I don't want my dad to fire you just because of this." Emerys replied.
Killian smiled. "Well, love, you'll be happy to know that even if he does, we should be just fine. I was looking at 'just in case's and both Storybrooke Community College and the University of New Orleans have accepted my application to teach there. It all depends on where you want to be."
Emerys sat up, staring at her love in shock.
"Seriously?" She asked.
Killian nodded. "Aye, love. Wherever you want to go. If you want to stay here, that's absolutely fine. If you want to go back to New Orleans, I'm entirely fine with that too. If you want to go somewhere entirely different, I'm also open to that. So long as I have you, nothing else matters to me."
He leaned down and kissed her softly.
"Thank you Killian. Thank you so much." She whispered against his lips.
"What for?" He smirked.
"For everything. For this, for being here when I need you, for just being you. I love you." She said.
"I love you too, kitten." He replied, re-joining their lips delicately.
