A/N: Picture is Emerys' dress, I love it so much and now I wanna go back to my prom night 😪

When Prom came round three weeks later, it had been entirely awkward.
Killian was there playing chaperone, but really just stood in the corner drinking punch that he'd mixed with a little pick-me-up, otherwise known as rum.
He'd turned it into a tropical cocktail, but didn't overly care.
His heart cracked when he saw Emerys walk in with Regina and Zelena.
The girls looked stunning.
Zelena was wearing a gorgeous Emerald green fitted gown; Regina had opted for something similar in black. But Emerys... Emerys took Killian's breath away. Her hair had been pinned back into a half up do, framing her face perfectly. Her eyes stood out with smokey makeup and a plain lip. Killian couldn't help but think how perfect the dress was for her. Its sheer corseted bodice shaped her stunningly, the lace popped against her porcelain skin, the black tulle over the cream skirt made the gown itself look almost grey and Killian didn't think he'd ever seen anything more beautiful. He just wished he could tell her so.

He watched in agony as Emerys enjoyed her night with her friends, her bright smile proving that she wasn't thinking of him as she danced.
Until one song came on.
"Oh fuck..." Emerys sighed.
"What?" Regina asked.
"The song." Zelena pointed into the air.
Regina listened and gasped, soon hurrying Emerys out of the room before she started crying.
Killian watched as it all unfolded, his heart being torn to pieces with every line Stevie Nicks sang.
He had thought that Emerys was otherwise doing fine since their break up. She'd focused more on her school work and hadn't shown an ounce of hurt until this moment.
He took the nearest exit and began to search for them.

"If listening to Landslide hurts that much, it clearly means you're not as over Killian as you say." Regina crossed her arms over her chest.
"Of course I'm not over him, 'Gina. I love him. Nothing is going to change that." Emerys sighed, wiping her tears away gently as to not smudge her make up.
Killian listened around the corner, his heart aching to hold his girl.
"Why don't you just forgive him then? You've acted like nothing was wrong for three whole weeks and now you're like this. Cut the crap and go talk to him." Regina frowned.
"It's not that easy. He hurt me. But even more so, he was stupid and reckless by fighting Jake. God only knows what he's going to do when Jake's out of the hospital. Or what Jake's going to do. Either way, it's too risky." Emerys sighed.
"Well if everything's alright out here, I'm going to go back in. There was hear-tell of the punch being spiked on our way out." Zelena smirked, giving Emerys' arm a playful punch. "Chin up, girlie. It's Prom, not a funeral."
"I'm going in too. You take a breath and come in when you're ready, okay?" Regina told her.
Emerys gave a small smile and a nod, waving the sisters back inside.
This was Killian's cue to come out from down the hall.
"Landslide get to you too, love?" He asked.
Emerys looked up and wanted to die at the sight of him.
"Leave me alone, Killian." She sighed.
"You look beautiful, by the way." He said.
"I said leave me alone."
Killian wiped his face in frustration.
"Emerys, come on. I saw what that song did to you. You don't want to be away from me anymore than I want to be away from you."
He took her hand and spun her around, their faces inches away.
Emerys tried to back away, but Killian held onto her waist.
"No." She whispered.
"I'll let go when you admit it." He told her.
She refused to look him in the eyes. One glance at those icy blue orbs would ruin everything for her. Having said that, staring at his lips wasn't doing much better.
"I..." She started, her brain too fuzzy to be able to find the right words.
Killian slowly leaned down, moving until their lips softly connected in the most delicate of kisses.
"Emerys, is that you?" Her father's voice came from behind Killian.
Emerys pulled away from him quickly.
"Yes dad, it's me." She said.
"Back inside please, the pair of you. I'm about to announce Prom King and Queen." He said before marching back into the hall.
Killian stayed frozen in his place.
Emerys glanced to him, wide eyed with shock over how close a call that was.
"He thought you were a student..." She whispered.
"It would appear so..." He replied.
"That's not happening again." She said before making her way back to the dance, leaving Killian in total bewilderment over what had just happened.

Emerys was happy in the know that Will Scarlet and Belle French had won Prom King and Queen. Will may have been the popular bad boy, but Belle was kind and not just some popular slutty girl. She had actually deserved that crown.
But when she got home, she couldn't help but give a sad sigh as she pushed her back against her bedroom door, gently closing it.
"Emerys? Can I talk to you for a minute please?" Her dad asked from the other side.
"I'm kinda tired dad." She mumbled.
"It'll only take a minute."
Emerys sighed again, reaching for the doorknob.
She pulled the door open to see her dad with his bow tie undone and draped over one shoulder.
"Yes?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Who was that boy you were... Ya know?"
"No one dad. Just an ex looking for closure." Emerys mumbled, staring down at her dress to avoid eye contact.
James looked at her sceptically.
"Okay then. You just seemed a little upset after I called you inside, that's all." He nodded. "Goodnight munchkin. I love you."
"Love you too, dad." Emerys gave a small smile before re-closing the door.

She unthreaded the corseted bodice and gently slipped out of the dress, leaving it in a pile on the floor for tomorrow's version of Emerys.
For the moment, she just laid on her bed in her underwear and shoes trying to think of anything else but the events of that night. But it was impossible. She found herself typing the password in for her phone's photo gallery and looking through old pictures and videos.

Killian got home just before one in the morning after grabbing a bottle of whiskey from the store.
He kicked off his shoes and landed himself on the couch, removing his tie before reaching for the bottle.
As though it were fate, both Emerys and Killian landed on the same video at almost the exact same time.
The video Regina had taken of them dancing to Landslide on Emerys' birthday.
Emerys gave the video a sad smile, not yet aware that a single tear had slipped from the corner of her eye into her hairline.
Killian watched on in complete agony, but totally unable to take his gaze off of Emerys' undying beauty – the smile he gave her on her birthday that lit up the entire house, the way her hands wrapped themselves perfectly around his shoulders or how her thumbs grazed the nape of neck so tenderly and lovingly.
Killian watched the video, finding himself mourning the loss of his love.
For he could only think that they would never be together again.
