{Kyjuan}

"Kyjuan!" Kiara's chipper voice said as I picked up the phone the first thing in the morning. Trenton and Donna were already being loud. I looked at the clock. 8:38am.
"Hm?" I said, still half asleep.
"Bring the kids over today, Kyle is in town." She said happily.
"Now?"
"Yes, right now. No excuses. See you soon." She giggled and hung up. I rolled my eyes and put my phone down. I rolled over, seeing Symphony in a dead sleep and snoring next to me. I smirked, then remembered how great last night was. I kissed her shoulder softly and slowly grabbed my pillow. I whacked her hard and rolled over, pretending I wasn't awake.
"Huh!" She woke up and shouted. I couldn't help but laugh. She looked over at me and rolled her eyes, laying back down. "What's today?"
"Tuesday." I said, getting out of bed and putting shorts on.
"Great. I have work soon." She said, noticing the time. "I might as well just get up now." She groaned as she got up. "Why are those kids making all that noise?" She left the room, followed by nagging. Hell it worked, they were quiet.
I grabbed a banana from the counter and poured some orange juice.
"Yo!" I called into the living room. "Trenton, Donna," I walked in, downing my cup of orange juice. "We're going to your Aunt Kiara's today. Your cousin Kyle is in town."
"Seriously?" Trenton grinned. I nodded. He and Donna high fived. The three of them practically grew up together.
"So get dressed." I added, going to grab my banana. I ate it quickly and threw some casual joggers, slides, and a jacket on over my bare chest. Symphony came out of the bathroom in her business uniform and her hair in a bun. She grabbed her purse and keys.
"You look so excited." I said sarcastically. She rolled her eyes and gave me the finger. "Ouch." I chuckled. She smiled and came and hugged me while standing on her tippy toes.
"I have to go now, have fun with the kids and your sister today." She said.
"Always." I smiled. She nodded and began to walk away. I grabbed her arm fast. She looked back at me as I pulled her back toward me and placed my hands on her sides. I looked to the side awkwardly then moved in to kiss her. She softly accepted and put her small hand on my cheek. I kissed her long and softly. "Later... honey." I smirked. She grinned from ear to ear.
"I have to go, I'll be late." She giggled. I let her go and she walked out the door. I sighed and grabbed my keys.
"I'm gonna be outside y'all!" I called to the back of the house. I went and sat in the car, running my fingers through my hair as Trenton and Donna came outside and got in the car.
We pulled up to Kiara's house and the kids practically jumped out of the car and knocked on the door. There were 3 other cars in the driveway. I parked on the curb and got out.
I walked in, and Kiara cheered when she saw me. She came and hugged me.
"Hey brother." She said. Ruby approached me as well and greeted me. "Kyle, Diamond come here!" She called. Who the hell was Diamond?
Kyle came down stairs, looking way different than the last time I'd seen him.
"Uncle Kee!" He grinned and gave me a hug.
"Damn boy you got fit. How old are you now?"
"19." He nodded.
"Growing too fast. I remember when you first came out of your mother. People thought you were my little brother, we were together so much." I smiled.
"Yeah I know. Nice seeing you again Unc. Oh! This is my girlfriend, Diamond." He said, gesturing toward the petite, blonde, light skinned girl to his left.
"Nice to meet you Diamond, I'm Kyjuan." I said. She smiled and shook my hand.
"Nice to meet you as well. Oh, your wife is out back on the patio." She said.
"My what?" I said, doing a double take. Kiara came over. Kyle, Diamond, Trenton and Donna went upstairs.
"Yeah, I invited Angelique. She told me this morning after I called her that you guys don't live together, what's going on?"
"Yeah, I have my own place Ki, we're in the middle of a divorce."
"What?! I can't believe you've been holding out on me. Come on, follow me." She said, walking out to the porch. I followed her. We sat in the chairs. "So? What's going on?"
"Nothing too drastic, she's just been cheating for a long time and I didn't find out til recently thanks to Mona."
"Mona? From high school? You sure she's not on a plot?"
"She showed me footage, she was our neighbor, and she's been seeing it and showed it to me Kiara." I rolled my eyes. Her mouth dropped.
"That's so... crazy. She use to be such a nice girl, what the hell?" She said, astounded.
"Yeah, now she's... kind of an asshole now." I shrugged.
"Damn. I never would've guessed." She shook her head. I nodded. "Do you want me to ask her to leave?"
"That's all on you, it's your house." I said. She nodded.
"Well, Karmen is supposed to be here any minute as well."
"Wow. I haven't seen her in 3 years. What is she now, 22?"
"Yeah." She said. We talked for a bit longer then went back inside.
"Hey Kyjuan." Angelique said in a polite tone, sitting on the couch.
"Yeah, hey." I mumbled. I sat at the dining table. Kiara looked at me cautiously as she began talking to Ruby.
We all chattered on for a bit while the kids were upstairs. Of course, Kiara sat on Ruby's lap in the recliner and Angelique sat on the end of the same couch as me.
"I feel maybe we should brighten up the mood, we're all too quiet." Ruby said, tapping Angelique's side. She got up and went into a small cabinet in the living room by the TV and pulled out a box, sitting it on her lap. Kiara sat by me on the couch as Ruby began to roll up.
"Oh?" I rubbed my hands together.
"Yes sir." Ruby grinned.
"We're forgetting something." Kiara said, going into the kitchen. She went into a high cabinet and pulled out a bottle of wine and 4 wine glasses. She poured us each a cup in the living room then went in the kitchen to begin cooking.
"So what's been new with you Ruby?" I asked.
"Me? Nothing much, really."
"Anything you do as of now? We don't talk enough."
"I'm just a writer." She shrugged, sealing up the blunt she was on and began rolling another one.
"Yeah? What kind?"
"Books. Whatever I can think of basically."
"Can you do it on your time?"
"Absolutely."
"Damn. I wish I could work on my time." I sighed. "They work my ass to death. Speaking of, I have a double to work tomorrow evening. Lucky me right?" I smirked. Ruby chuckled. I downed half my glass of wine. "Damn this stuff is sweet. Sis, what is this?" I called into the kitchen.
"Italian Red Wine. Don't drink too much." She said back. I drank the rest of the cup and poured more. "Shit."
"What's up?" Ruby called to her.
"I gotta run to the store." She said. "There's something I need to cook with."
"Oh. Well be safe." Ruby said, sealing the second one. She lit it then handed me the second one to light.
"I will, be right back." She said, exiting the door. The room soon began to fill with coughing and smoking. Ruby put a DVD on after some time as Trenton came downstairs.
"Hey Dad, I'm gonna go hang out with Eric." He said, texting on his phone. I nodded. "I'll get dropped off at home."
"Alright man." I said and pulled. He left our of the front door. Angelique sat on her phone.
"Uh Kyjuan. You seem like such a higher up smoker, this stuff is strong. " Ruby laughed.
"Because I am." I said, grabbing the 2 blunts and hitting them both for a long time together. I held the smoke in and blew it out, passing one to Angelique without looking her andbgave the other to Ruby.
"I should've known." She rolled her eyes and smirked.
I downed another cup full of wine and poured another.
"Damn Kyjuan slow down!" She said. I smirked.
"I had a risky childhood. You must be a lightweight." I said sarcastically.
"I beg to differ." She crossed her arm, passing the blunt back to me. I took another big hit and coughed.
"Prove it." I said, feeling light-headed. She grabbed the wine bottle and downed half of it. My mouth dropped.
"Now you know all of that shit is gonna hit you in about 5 minutes." I laughed. She shrugged and sat the bottle down. I poured another cup.
After a while, my entire body felt heavy and Ruby and I joked until Kiarra got back. She looked... off. She dropped the bags in the kitchen.
"Kiara?" Ruby said drunkenly. She didn't answer. "What's up?" She called. I squinted. We both went into the kitchen. She stared off. I put my hands on her shoulders.
"Ki? What's up?" I asked in a serious tone.
"Jordan." She whispered.
