"Come on, we have to go!" I cried as Symphony cried while leaning against the car. The police had just finished questioning us and Dad and Trent were at the hospital by now. She stood shakily and got into the car. We drove home.
"Why are we here? I wanna go see them!" I said.
"Just switching cars." She said kind of shaken up. "We have to get our things inside." She said, carrying the bags. I grabbed mine and went inside, tossing it on my bed. She put Trenton's things on his bed and dropped her and Dad's bag on the floor. She went into her bag and pulled out a stack of money.
"Where'd that come from?" I asked.
"Your brother. Come on, we gotta go." She grabbed Dad's keys and we headed out.
We got into the car and she paused with her hands on the top of the steering wheel and held her head down. After about 30 seconds she put the money in the glove compartment and pulled out of the driveway. I began to become overcome with the worst thoughts.
"Oh my gosh are they going to die?!" I cried and began screaming.
"Donna, n---... I don't know, but the sooner we get there the sooner we can find out." She said, going a bit faster. I cried longer.
We pulled in, hurrying to their room. They were being helped in the same room. When I saw them unconscious, I cried harder. Their tables were almost on other sides of the room with doctors all around them. Symphony began to cry and left the room. I began to walk further. A doctor in all white with her mouth covered stopped me.
"Honey, you're going to have to go wait outside with your mother." She said, leading me toward the door. I nodded and collapsed by Symphony. She held me closer.
"Don't worry about anything. I know how strong they are, I've known them my entire life. They're strong." She said, tearfully.
After about 30 minutes of crying, I dozed off. Symphony wrapped her jacket and arm around me and waited. A doctor came from the room suddenly, startling me and waking me up. My phone was buzzing in my pocket.
"Ma'am, I have news." The nurse said with a sad expression. Symphony nodded. I muted my phone.
"Yes?" She said.
"So.. the bullets went clean through the both of them. They've lost a lot of blood but they still have a pulse. It's weak at the moment. We have them stabilized. We're going to need blood. Do you know anyone who could be A negative for them?" She asked seriously.
"I.. I am." She said.
"Would you mind donating?" She asked. There was a pause.
"Can my daughter come?" Symphony asked. The nurse nodded.
I had no problem with calling her mom or even her telling people I was her daughter. It was so much nicer staying with her and Dad than with Mom... Symphony actually showed me attention and caring. Love and support. Everything I could ever need.
We walked to a nearby room. I sat in the chair by the wall and Symphony laid on the bed.
"We will bring you water and a couple of snacks, you will be very weak and light headed in a few minutes." She said, cleaning a needle. Symphony nodded. The nurse came with the needle and stuck it into the crook of her left elbow quickly. She winced and blood began to fill a bag that was on a hook. About 10 minutes later it was full. Symphony's eyes drooped. The nurse left with the bag, taking the things out of her arm and seeling a band aid on, and came back with snacks. She slowly ate them. She left the room once more after talking to us for a bit, then came back with hopeful eyes.
"Ms?" She tapped Symphony's leg. Symphony looked at her.
"Yes?" She asked.
"Um, I'm sorry," She began. Her eyes widened. "The safest amount we could take from you was only enough for the older gentleman... he's fine and he's getting numbed, cleaned and stitched up which may take up to 2 to 3 hours. As for the younger boy, I'm not too sure." She said. My heart sank.
"What the fuck do you mean?! My son is NOT dying!" She stood and began to snap.
"If we don't find him more blood for his body soon, he will be ma'am. He's slipping away as we speak!" She said. Symphony began to cry.
"But I don't know anyone else with A negative blood!" She screamed hysterically. I stood up.
"I do." I said. I laid on the bed. "C'mon!" I shouted. She hurried and got another needle ready.
"Donna, honey are you sure you want to do this? You know how scared you are of needles." Symphony said as she stood next to me.
"I'm sure. Trent is dying." I said firmly. The lady began to bring the equipment over and put it in my arm. The pain was sharp, but I didn't care.
I tried not to look as blood began to drain from my body into the pouch. Gradually I became more exhausted. Before I knew it I passed out.
