I tied up my apron and clocked out at about 9:58pm, and I was so exhausted. But, as expected, my son Kyle is supposed to be at my house already with his girlfriend since he'd just gotten on to summer break for his college about 3 weeks ago.
Kyle grew up to be such a great young man. Yes he could be a handful sometimes, but he's just the sweetest boy. Man now, he'll be 19 in about 5 months.
I'm moving too fast. I'm a full time manager at one of the fanciest restaurants here in Atlanta named Aria. Everythings way too overpriced, portions are too small, and customers are too frequent. I work 5 days a week, sun up to sun down for a more than amazing amount of salary pay. Ruby, my girlfriend, works from home as a paid online writer. Which I have to say is going a lot better than I had planned. Constant, steady pay and she can work on her own time. I wish I could do the same. I'm not as talented as her though.
Kyle had sent me pictures earlier so I'd know how everyone--meaning his girlfriend and him--looked up to date. I'd given him hell for getting tattoos.

His girlfriend Diamond, looked like a model

His girlfriend Diamond, looked like a model. He had good taste.

I got into my car after grabbing certain pieces of paperwork that I had to look over and tossed it into the passenger seat. I started the care and drive home, smelling like onions and frosting all in one.
When I got in, Ruby gave me a big kiss on the lips. I smiled at her admiringly as we held onto each other.
"Who's that breaking in Ruby?" A make voice called from the back. So mature and manly. I almost began crying as my baby Kyle, who I haven't seen in a little over a year, entered the living room. He spread his arms and rushed to hug me. I  laughed and hugged him back.
"Oh, how I missed you!" I said excitedly.
"I missed you too Mom." He said. We pulled away and looked at each other.
"You're such a man now but don't ever forget you're still my baby." I squinted.
"Right right Mom. But hey, I wanted you both to meet my girlfriend of over a year now. Di!" He called. Small thumps became louder as they approached us. A thin but slim, bright colored girl with blonde hair and the biggest smile stood before us. She wore black tights, a loose black tank top, and black slippers.
"Hi, you must be Diamond." I smiled, holding out my hand. She shook it and nodded.
"Pleasure to meet you." Ruby said as Diamond shook hers too. Her cheeks began to get red.
"Well, I suggest I go get these filthy clothes off of me so we could all actually relax and socialize. I'll be back." I said.
"I'll have the table set, I got dinner out of the way, you're going to love it." Ruby said and kissed my cheek.
" I'm sure I will." I said, exiting the living room and going into my in room bathroom.
I took my hair out of the hair tie as I stood in front of the mirror and let my hair fall on my shoulders. I took off all my clothes and ran the shower on almost the hottest setting of the shower. My muscles were killing me.
The water felt magnificent on my skin and scalp, giving me a chill down my spine. It felt even better scrubbing my scalp and body with shampoo and soap. The bathroom fogged up intensely, making it that more relaxing.
After I was done, I dried, wrapped a towel around my hair, lotioned down and put on some pajamas. I slid on my slippers and went back downstairs to everyone in the living room conversating as the food sat warming on the stove.
"There you are, now we can get plates made." Ruby said, getting up as we all sat at the dining table. She began to make everyone's plates and sitting the pots and pans back on the stove. She has made juicy looking meatloaf, mashed potatoes, greens and muffins. My stomach grumbled at the sight. We all said grace and began eating. As always, it was immaculant.
"Ruby your cooking always hits the spot." Kyle groaned as he ate. Ruby smiled sympathetically as she chewed her food.
"So baby, how are things with you?" I asked Kyle.
"I mean, football is going great, we have upcoming games as soon as the season begins back. School's easy, and I have this doll here keeping me on top of things." He said, smirking at Diamond and grabbing one of her hands.
"Aw," I began. "So cute. And Diamond, nice again to finally meet you. You two are so beautiful and your hair is gorgeous."
"Thank you Ms. Davis. I just bleached it last week." Her smooth, girly voice said. I nodded in acknowledgement.
"What about you Mom, how are things going?" Kyle asked.
"Good baby, good. Work is hard, the house is really my safe haven nowadays. I'm just overall happy to see my baby blossom." I grinned. He chuckled.
After dinner, everyone else took a shower and we all spent time together in the living room watching movies. Kyle and Diamond were on one couch while Ruby and I shared the other. We watched Death At A Funeral. Afterward, we said our good nights, but Kyle lingered by my door as Diamond went to crash in his room.
"Everything okay honey?"
"Yeah, it's just... there's been something on my mind for hours. Some guy approached me at the gas station as me and Diamond were on the way here. For the strangest reason, he started a conversation with me like he knew me. Then toward the end of the conversation he said... he knew you." He squinted. I furrowed my eyebrows. Who knew me? I never get out that much.
"I've got to say that's... odd. It was probably just some drug head, don't pay any attention."
"He didn't seem like one. In an odd way, he looked kind of familiar." He trailed off. My heart sank.
