We all sat and packed our things in preparation of departing from the hotel in a few minutes. Everything has looked clear all week. Even Kyjuan didn't know what was up with that.
I was still pretty much on edge about the entire thing, but I'm strong enough to bounce back. I had to pep talk myself every morning since this began, I've got this.
"Everybody have their things ready?" Kyjuan asked, lifting one of my bags over his shoulder. We all replied with a scatter of yes's and headed toward the door. "Wait, shit my charger is still in the wall." He rolled his eyes. As soon as he bent down to grab it, there was a loud rumbling outside. We all looked to each other with a confused expression. Trenton walked toward the windows and peeked.
"Oh sh--" He hurried and backed away from the curtain. There was a heavy gust of wind smacking against the window, leaving a crack in it. It was then followed by a sound of something colliding with another object and a lot of people screaming.
"Dad what's happening?!" Donna panicked. I peeked outside. There was black smoke everywhere and half of the building was on fire. People ran outside screaming.
"We gotta go. We gotta go, now!" Kyjuan said, seeing what I saw. We hurried to the door. "Everyone cover your faces and do not uncover it until we're at the the car!" He spoke louder over the noises outside. The ground began to shake.
We all sprinted out of our room toward the back door of the hotel in the middle of thousands of people running out. Trenton stopped, becoming farther behind and looked into someone's nearby room. There was fire burning it to a crisp. He began to look sad. We saw the back door from a distance but it was consumed in fire.
"Shit!" He shouted. We began for the front, stumbling and pushing past people. As soon as we got out we all sprinted for the car in the back. There were loud firecracker type noises and people collapsing to the ground. We all hurried into the car and Kyjuan started it and zoomed off.
"Dad!" Trenton shouted. "What was going on?! That wasn't debris flying around hitting people!" He said.
"No, " Kyjuan said dryly. "It was bullets."
"Bullets?!" Donna and I shouted.
"Yep. He found us." Trenton smacked his forehead. Donna began panicking.
"Donna, honey, calm down okay?" I told her calmly. Kyjuan looked pissed. He floored the gas pedal. "Kyjuan, what are you doing?" I asked. He ignored me. "Kyjuan, slow down!" I yelled. He shut his eyes like he was focusing on something. My thing is, OPEN YOUR EYES AND SLOW DOWN, YOU'RE DRIVING.
He began to mumble under his breath.
"Kyjuan, open your eyes there's a turn coming up soon." I said, patting his thigh. He continued, still mumbling. As the turn became closer, I could distinguish more of what he said. "Kyjaun!" I yelled.
"Dad!" Trenton and Donna yelled.
"5..47..36..3,2,1." He mumbled then turned exactly on time. I paused, in shock.
"Kee, what are you doing?" I asked shakily. He opened his eyes.
"There are 8 cars a mile behind us. 4 men in each car, each man in the right rear seat of each car has an AK. The other 3 in each car have 2 9mm's each. They'll be on my tail in approximately 57 seconds from right now, and as of now they have a shit ton of advantage." Kyjuan said rapidly. Donna stared at him in awe.
"Not too much." Trenton said, reaching into his and Kyjuan's bag. My heart beat a million times a second. How did Kyjuan just do all of that? And how did he instantly know all of that?
He tossed a gun into Kyjuan's lap and cocked the other one. Kyjuan rolled down all of the windows. He shut his eyes again and began mumbling numbers again.
"Kyjuan, communicate with me!" I shouted. He tensed up.
"So there are 8 cars, right? 4 men in each. That's already 32 men we're up against. Then, 8 out of 32 have AK's, one in each car. AK's hold 30 rounds, so that would be 240 rounds we'd have to survive, and that's hoping they didn't bring extra clips. Now, that's 24 men left that have 2 9 mm's each. That's 48 9's we're looking at, each holding about 15 rounds each. That's 720. 960 total, versus 45. I know for certain the drivers won't be holding both because they have to drive, so the driver's should be our first targets. Then the right rear to the guys with the big guns. You hearing me Trent?" He explained quickly. Trenton nodded. I looked at him, mouth agape.
"Dad, how is knowing all of this gonna help us get away from them?!" Donna yelled as wind loudly blew through the windows.
"Because! If we know what kind of guns there are, we'll know how many each holds. If we know how many each holds, then we can calculate how many we're looking at. And if it's a scenario we're in right now, we could count how many we hear until we get to the amount of bullets we believe they have. After that, we can shoot without being as cautious of so many bullets flying around, while still having enough bullets. We'd be cutting it close, 32 men and 45 bullets. We can't waste more than 13." Kyjuan said. How could he do math so quickly in his head?
"Dad!" Trenton said, going into his bag. He pulled out 2 boxes full of bullets, 60 bullets in each box. The odds just lifted a bit.
"Way to go!" Kyjuan grinned and grabbed a box.
Loud engines began to approach us, and I looked into the rear view mirror. Kyjuan was exactly and precisely on point. There were exactly as much of everything as he said. But how did...?
They began going faster, eventually pulling by the widows and shooting. Donna screamed and covered herself with her bag. Kyjuan shot from his window at the cars beside him and Trenton shot from behind me. My heart continued to beat extremely fast.
The shooting didn't stop, Trenton flattened one car's two rear tires. The cars began to drive faster ahead of us and the final car in the back pulled up by the driver's window. Except for the window was rolled up and there was no man with an AK in the back. Kyjuan held his gun out toward it. The window rolled down. He cocked it back.
"Is that any way to treat a friend you haven't seen in years?" A man said with a smile. Kyjuan kept a mean mug.
"We're not friends." He said.
"How unnerving. I thought you'd be a better shot, Kyjuan. You and your wretched son." He said, with an angry grimace.
"If we wanted to kill your men we would've. We're just trying to get you to stop."
"Oh come on! You know we don't. Never." He said and began to laugh and rolled the window up. His car smashed into mine with no mercy, almost knocking us off of the road. We all held on to something as Kyjuan kept his foot pressed on the gas. Shortly, we saw the cars that sped forward form a line that blocked off the road, and nothing but potholes and deep gravel on the outside of the long strip of road.
"Kyjuan! Stop!" I shouted. Trenton shot at the man's car. Kyjuan didn't listen to me. "Kyjuan we have to stop we're gonna crash!" I yelled, shaking his leg.
"I'll go around." He said.
"That type of gravel will pop my tires at this moment, I have to change the tires soon anyways but if we speed up the process then we'll be stuck even longer beside these maniacs! Either way we're fucked!" I shouted. He kept going. "Kyjuan! Stop it now!" I yelled louder than I had ever yelled before. He eased off of the gas. My heart still beated out of my chest. He pressed on the breaks gradually as we approached closer. Men were already dressed in all black with AK's waiting for us to approach. The man from the car stood about 3 feet behind them. We stopped and he motioned for us to get out. Kyjuan slowly turned the car off and looked to the kids in the back. Donna had tears streaming down her face.
"Be quiet, move slow, be careful. Don't do anything unless you see me doing it. I'm serious." Kyjuan whispered. He raised his hands and we all followed, moving slowly from the car. I made sure Trenton stayed behind me, Kyjuan did the same for Donna.
"Long time no see!" He said loudly with a big smile. "What a beautiful family!"
"What is this about Lonz?" Kyjuan asked.
"Is it not already evident? The night that your precious baby boy steals from me and fucks up a mission you guys vacate for a week? Oh, you know what this is about." He said. "But, since I'm about to just kill you all, I'd like to let you all know what is going on here. A nice little story for your beautiful children, Kee. So! Your dad, your wonderful dad, was a very superb worker of mine for years. Along with his best friend, a very close friend that was like a brother to him." He began. My mood was going south consistently as he spoke.
"Anyways, blah blah mommy returns, blah blah things go south. What the fuck ever. Overall, my things went missing. Little darling," He looked toward Donna. "You are so pretty. Beautiful. Have you ever met anyone named Calvin?" He grinned. She shook her head and hid behind Kyjuan. "It's because, oh you're going to love this, I gave them a chance to get what was missing, but of course, nada. So, I shot him in between the eyes. I was going to leave your father miserably alone with no one around, then slowly bring him to his demise, no kids no girls. But, Kyjuan had to be the hero and jump in front of his sweet girlfriend Angelique. Where is she now?" He asked. "What's your name darling?" He motioned toward me. I stayed silent.
"Your name!" He yelled, pulling a gun out and aiming it toward me. I jumped.
"Stop!" Kyjuan yelled. "You're not doing anything to the people around me again."
"Oh I'm not? Interesting." He said. He lit a cigarette.
"No." He said firmly. My hands shook. Alonzo chuckled.
"That's cute. Anyways, Eric?" He said. A younger man that stood with the people aiming at us lifted his mask. "I used Eric here just to get ahold of your son. Build a neat foundation of trust like bait, then as soon as he tugs the hook, I reeled him in." He smirked Eric smirked.
"Eric?!" Trenton yelled. "Are you fucking kidding me?!" He began walking forward.
"Trent stop!" Kyjuan shouted at him. He didn't listen.
"After everything we've been through man, you've been just working with him to ruin my dad's life the whole time?!" He began to clench his fists.
"Actually, I was the back up plan for in case the things that happened happen. Then we'd benefit by killing you all in the end." He smirked. Donna began to scream. Alonzo laughed.
"Boy she's got a pair of lungs on her." He started, eyeballing her. "I like noise. You ever had a job before?" He asked her, pulling up his belt. Kyjuan began to tremble. Donna shook her head slowly. "Would you like one? You'd meet so many different people every night and that shyness will go right out the window. I'd just have to...interview you first." He smirked. I got angrier by the second.
"Shut the fuck up!" Kyjuan shouted.
"Oh, tough." Alonzo chuckled.
"Y'all are sick bastards." Trenton spat. There was a loud shot. Trenton fell to the ground, grabbing his leg and screaming. Kyjuan, Donna and I screamed.
"Baby, oh my gosh!" I yelled, running to him. Donna clung to the back of Kyjuans shirt.
"Jesus it burns!" Trenton said, mid screams.
"You..." Kyjuan began, staring at the ground. "You... you...." He breathed harder. Oh no. "You shot my fucking son!" He shouted, letting off rounds. Trenton went into the waist of his pants and began to shoot as well.
"Get Donna to the car and stay down!" Trenton yelled as they all shot at each other. I frantically ran to get her and put her in the backseat of the car. We leaned down. Donna looked at me, tears running down her face.
"Is Trenton going to be okay?" She cried, jumping as shots were fired. I moved hair from her face.
"Yes, yes sweetie everything will be fine I promise." I said, not being sure myself. I began to cry along with her, my son was bleeding out.
The passenger door opened. I looked through the window at the front of the car seeing Kyjuan being the only one out there.
"W--where's--" I whimpered. Trenton came to the seat, pulling himself into the car and shutting the door.
"Stay down!" He said. I leaned back down.
"Baby are you okay?!" I cried.
"Mom I'm fine, okay? Just lay low." He said. "What about your father?! Is he?"
"He's fine Mom, he told me get away and go with you guys." He said as bullets hit the car. I looked back up and majority of the men were down. The kid Trenton was friends with was dead on the ground.
"I killed him. And 12 others." Trenton said, coldly. My heart sank. My son has killed people. "Mom, don't worry. Please. We don't need worry right now. I love you." He said.
"I love you too." I cried. I looked back through the window. The bullets stopped firing and Alonzo and Kyjuan were just staring at each other.
"You should've hired guys with a shot like yours. How did all of them miss me? I've been standing right here." Kyjuan said cockily. I was so astounded by the moment. He had taken out majority of his men.
"You're right. Maybe I should just get you back, how about it?" He said. Kyjuan laughed.
"For what? More betrayal and living at risk? I'm fine on that offer." He said.
"Have it your way." Alonzo shrugged and lifted his gun. Sirens began to become noticeable in the distance. Kyjuan stood there. My heart raced.
"Daddy!" Donna screamed and cried as she hit the window. The police cars and ambulances were now visible. They were getting closer with each second.
"Stop where you are! We have officers coming from each direction, you have nowhere to run! Drop whatever you have!" Am officer's voice said over the intercom.
"Better drop it Lonz." Kyjuan said.
"Drop yours first." He said, eyeballing Kyjuan's hand. "Or take the shot. You only have one round left. Better not miss." He smirked.
"So do you." Kyjuan said.
"Hmm. You know your guns."
"Learned from the best I know. But you guys have had a broom up your ass this whole time, can't even shoot a still visible target." Kyjuan laughed. Alonzo became angry. "You just really lost your credibility, I thought you were an amazing shot?"
"I am, would you like to see?" He said as the police halted to a stop around my car.
"Drop it!" A cop yelled as he opened the passenger window and aimed his gun. Alonzo smiled again.
"Yes sir!" He called. He continued to point it toward Kyjuan.
"Drop it, now!" The officer shouted again. Alonzo laughed. Then the gun popped.
"KYJUAN!" I shouted, clenching my chest as his body fell. The officers began to shoot Alonzo until he was lifeless on the ground.
I hopped out of the car and ran to his side. He was still conscious, clenching his chest and breathing heavily. Paramedics rushed over.
"Kyjuan, Kyjuan!" I yelled and cried over him. He ran out of breath but continued to try and breathe. The blood ran out of him like water from a faucet.
The paramedics quickly put him in a stretcher and put him in an ambulance. I looked over to the car and an officer was helping Trenton into another ambulance.
I cried hysterically and collapsed onto the pavement.
