At the airport, Melody tiredly sipped the vanilla frappuccino that the boys had gotten her on their coffee run. She smiled as they had made an obvious effort to avoid getting her a caffeinated beverage.
While waiting to board the plane she reflected on all that had transpired within the last five days. She was surrounded by seven talented, and handsome men that had somehow become something more than strangers... One could even say, close friends.
It was a weird phenomenon for her to witness. Never in the twenty years of her existence had she experienced the genuine benefits of having close friends. Well technically, she did have the girls whom she had been with for half a decade. Honestly, the only one who sort-of reciprocated the effort of friendship Melody offered was Gabby; whom she had known the longest.
It also amazed her how quickly the strong bonds with each of the boys had formed. Sure, some of them like Jin, she had barely spent time with, yet she couldn't deny the unspoken bond between them. She would do anything for these boys, and the fact that she already felt such strong emotions for all seven members scared her. She knew she was prone to make quick friendships in a desperate attempt to find a strong connection. However, this was different, this was the first time it seemed like the same emotions and feelings were being returned right back to her just as quickly and passionately.
Melody smiled as she realized she was finally receiving sevenfold, the amount of love and care she had poured into several fruitless friendships over the years.
She felt she could finally be herself with the boys, and still be accepted. Yes, she was strong-willed and quick-tongued, but a large part of her self was insecure as her boldness wasn't always accepted for being her true quick-witted self. She never really got along with girls while growing up because of her unique quirks; the boys were always more accepting.
After years of toning her personality down, she finally found three popular girls who mostly tolerated her existence, and kept her around for entertainment. Honestly, the only reason she was able to get in with them was because of Gabby insisting that she was cool. Every friend group needs an ugly friend right? Ever since then, the four of them were always together.
As the years past, she continued to stifle her personality until the remnant of the sassy, powerful exterior became a mask for the girl who was scared of being outcast once more. She always made sure to filter the majority of her remarks when conversing with the girls, knowing they didn't care for her brash comments or sarcastic quips. However, despite her best efforts, she couldn't always control her tongue as a comment would be made here or there.
In contrast, when she was with the boys, not only was she once more in her natural element, but she felt understood and respected. Which was something she didn't feel in her own home.
Yes, the circumstances were unpleasant as she was now a minion of the entertainment company. But being with the boys through it all seemed worth it to her.
At least the company made it somewhat easy for her as they had previously prepared multiple ways for the contest winners to participate in the concert months before the winners were announced. Since they didn't know what the winners would be capable of, they prepared the boys for possible duets, choreography changes, and other various ideas which would highlight the many possible personalities and abilities the winners might have. Management, however, didn't expect there to be only one participant, let alone one who excelled beyond their expectations.
