***Katharine’s POV***
“Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to the 7th annual Young Artist Exposition. I am Lidia Colman, the Director of the expo and on behalf of the entire committee and myself; we would like to congratulate all the artist here tonight.” Mrs. Colman said standing up on the stage and everyone in the room clapped.
“We will begin with the honorable mentions of High school students: photography.” She added and started naming winners from each category.
I was sitting a table designated for my family I invited, consisting of Luke, my mom and dad, Opah, Aunt Karen, Uncle Jim, and Veronica. I was so nervous. I know I probably won’t win compared to other art work here, but I’m still anxious about the possibility of winning. After a while, Mrs. Colman had finally reached young adult: fine art category.
“Kat calm down.” Luke whispered in my ear. “Take some deep breaths.”
I nodded in agreement and started breathing through my nose, trying to calm down. This was it; I folded my hands like I was praying and prepared myself for the announcement.
“And the first place winner of the young adult fine art is . . . . . . Katharine Mitchell, Love & Shelter.”
“I won!” I gasped as my head shot up with shock and amazement. Everyone around the room stood up cheering.
“I won!” I shouted and jumped into Luke’s arms.
“Yes you did! Now go get your award!” he smiled letting me go and gestured toward the stage.
I walked up on stage everyone still standing and clapping for me as I walked over to the podium.
“Congratulations.” Mrs. Colman congratulated me.
“Thank you.” I smiled as she handed me the award. I was about to walk back to my seat when Mrs. Colman stopped me.
“Wait I have one more thing.” She said to me and I stopped walking back over to her.
“I would also like to present and congratulate Ms. Mitchell with Best in Show.” She smiled presenting me the plaque. Everyone started cheering and clapping again.
“Wait I won first place and best in show?” I asked almost speechless.
“Yes, congratulations; you’re a very talented artist.” She complimented me.
“Thank you.” I said excepting the awards and walked back to my seat, straight into Luke’s welcoming arms.
“Congratulations Princess.” He said picking me up and spun me around.
“I did it.”
“I knew you could.” he added.
The rest of my family rushed over congratulating me and looking at my awards.
“I’m so proud of you.” Luke whispered in my ear.

***Luke’s POV***
Kat and I walked out of the Art center walking over to the car. Our bags were packed ready to leave for Australia.
“I still can’t believe it won!” she excitedly giggled.
“I’m not. You’re an amazing artist.” I told her.
“I can’t wait to be back in Australia.” She sighed as we got in the car.
“Can you tell me the surprise yet?” she asked.
“No, but you’re going to love it.” I smiled and kissed her lips, driving off to the airport.
