"Mr. Stark, where are Steve and Bucky?" I yelled as I stormed into his office.
Tony put his hand on his head, "Would you keep it down? I have a headache."
"Oh, yeah. So where are Steve and Bucky?" I quieted my voice, "They left sometime this morning and all they left was this note," I placed the note on his desk. He took it and read a couple of lines.
"Oh. I know where they are. I can't tell you though," I gave him a look. He sighed, "All I can tell you is they'll call you to update you, it's not a hard mission, and you can stay here if you want. I can make a room for you. We can get the school situation figured out too. Ok?"
"Ok, but I don't know where I'm supposed to go to school. And how am I going to move my stuff over here?"
"I'll put you in the same school as Peter, if you want and I could send some guys to get your stuff, unless you want some new clothes. I can buy you some new clothes."
"Really Mr. Stark? 'Cuz you don't have to, you can send the guys-" he cut me off.
"My treat. Besides it'll be fun you can go shopping with your friends. I'll give you some money and I expect you to use it all," he smiled at me.
"Uh, thanks Mr. Stark."
"No problem. Now go wander off or something. Peter's at school," Tony looked at his expensive looking watch, "But he should get done is an hour."
"Ok. Is he coming here?"
"I'll call the school, make sure they send him here. Ok?"
"Yep. I'm just gonna go wander now, I guess," I pointed to the door and started to head towards it.
"Don't get lost. It's a big building," Tony chuckled.
"I'll try not to."
*************
Floor twelve. Wonder what secrets this floor holds. I pressed the button for the twelfth floor. I got bored just standing around so in between floors I jumped up and down. When I got to the twelfth floor I walked in to a person's chest, and fell on my butt.
"Are you ok? I'm sorry, I was standing to close to the elevator doors-" the person reached out to help me up. I took their hand.
"Thanks, and I'm fine. It wasn't that bad of a fall."
He shook his head understanding I was alright. The guy in front of me looked really familiar, but I don't know where from.
"Do I know you?" I scratched my head feeling to see if I hit my head without the guy noticing.
"I don't know. I feel like I know you too," his face just seemed really familiar. Sky blue eyes, light brown hair, where have I seen that before?
"Max?" He looked like the boy from my first foster home, but that was six years ago. He would be nineteen, to young to work here.
"June?" He had a startled expression.
"Oh my gosh it's really you Max! I never thought I'd see you again!" I pulled him into a hug.
"Yeah, I never thought I would see you either," he pushed me away, holding my arms, "Where have you been? How have you been?"
"I -if you'll believe it- got adopted. I was at four other foster homes then the one we were at together. I guess I've been good. I've been doing good in school and I have nice friends and stuff, so yeah."
"No, how are you doing. Have you had any nightmares recently? Anxiety attacks?" He looked me in the eye trying to find something.
I thought back to the last time I had a nightmare. It was over a month ago, so was it really recent? And I think we all know the last time I had an anxiety attack.
"I haven't had any nightmares recently, but I did have an anxiety attack. One of my new dads calmed me down really quickly though."
"Oh, that's good?" I could tell he wasn't really sure what to say.
"Yeah that's good," I smiled at him, "So what are you doing here?"
"Uh, my mom is visiting family and he apparently lives here in Stark Tower," so Max did end up getting adopted and not having to grow up in foster care.
"Cool. Who are you visiting?"
"My uncle Clint."
The elevator dinged and you want know who walked out of it? Peter. I hadn't even realized it had been an hour until he walked out of the elevator.
"Hey June," he waved, "Hey guy I don't know," he tugged on his backpack straps.
"Hey Pete, this is Max. Max this is Peter," I waved my hand in between them as I said their names, "Peter, Max is a friend from my first foster home."
"Oh, cool. I'm June's new..." Peter looked to me to confirm that we were still friends after what happened last night, "Friend."
"Nice to meet you Peter," Max flashed a smile.
Max has changed a lot since I last saw him, but that was six years ago so... His jawline is more defined then it was when I was at the home, he's more toned too. I can see a faint out line of muscles under his shirt. He's also styling his hair differently, and it looks good.
Do I like Max? No! Brain why would you think that? I don't know your picking out these details that you wouldn't pick out on-
"June!" Peter tugged on my shirt.
"What?" I looked at both of them trying to see what I missed.
"I was asking if you wanted to help me study for a test. Max can help too," I looked over at Max.
"Nah. I gotta go. Have to meet my uncle at a restaurant. Nice meeting you Peter. Gotta run June. See you later?"
"Probably."
"I'll count on it," Max pressed the button on the elevator and walked in. Now it was just me and Peter.
"So uh, you needed help studying for a test?" I looked into his eyes and noticed how the sunlight made them a honey color.
"Y-yeah I do. If you'll help me. Please?"
"Well let's go study then."
