Familiar Faces

We have all heard of doppelgangers; a term used loosely for those who look similar to one another, for someone who looks similar to a popular celebrity, but not identical. A true doppelganger is you in a sense, same name, same aspirations, same identity, but is the false you. It is said that when you see your doppelganger at the same time it sees, you will die, they will replace your very existence and the real you will be forgotten forever.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you saw your doppelganger?

One day, you're walking down the sidewalk, letting your feet take you where ever they'd like, a small adventure as you'd call it. The warm wind blows gently on your face, and the wildlife is active, birds singing and the squirrels chasing one another. Out of the corner of your eye, you see your group of friends, but they're talking to someone as they walk down the street, someone you recognize. You can't see their face, only their backside until they turn around, that is.

You see their face as clear as day, it's you. As you stare at one another, it feels as if time itself freezes. You can see their face hold the same expression as you, but then, a sly smirk spreads on their face, while your face holds confusion and fear.

Not wanting to believe your eyes, you run the opposite direction, scrambling trying to get as much distance as you can between yourself and the fake you. Without looking, you cross the street, and there you are hit by a semi-truck that was barreling down the street, going past the speed limit. As you lay there bleeding out, you can see the smile on your doppelgangers face as they walk with your friends leaving you behind to die.
