Twenty one - Clearing things up

That Sunday morning I get woken up by my phone that starts ringing. Still groggy from sleep I look at the caller ID and see Lucas was calling me. I sigh and ignore the call, I had been clear enough yesterday, he should know it's over and that I don't wanna see his face anymore. Deciding it was time to get up  I drag myself out of bed and tie my hair in a bun.

I walk into my bathroom and cringe when I see my reflection. My eyes were red and puffy from the crying, I had massive circles under my eyes. I was just clad in a vest top and some red plaid pyjama bottoms. When I hear my stomach grumble I shuffle towards my kitchen and quickly eat something. When I'm just done someone knocks on my door.

"Are you serious?" I mumble and walk to the front door and open it.

"Harry -" before I can continue Harry shushes me and walks into my apartment.

"Sit down," he commands me. I sigh obeying and sitting on a kitchen chair.

"First of all, stop blaming yourself for that kiss okay?"

"But -"

"I said shut up," Harry says and then continues.

"You were in an emotional state and you were seeking for comfort. Comfort that you found in me. If you want to forget the kiss, then I will too. We will forget it ever happened, don't let this little thing ruin our friendship. I want to help you, because it's obvious you're struggling with the fact that Lucas cheated on you. And I want to support you through this. So please, don't blame yourself, it wasn't your fault and I completely understand."

I stare at him with wide eyes.

"I- I, I want to forget the kiss, please, I want a clean start," I stutter. Harry nods and then looks at me.

"By the way, you look like shit," he says and tries to suppress a grin. I look at him and start laughing at he same time he starts.

"Shut up and give me icecream," I tell him.

"Coming up!"

Harry comes back with some ben and jerry's cookie dough and a spoon.

"You don't want any?" I ask.

"Nah, not in the morning," Harry answers.

"What time is it?" I ask

"Half past eleven I believe." I look at the ice cream and shrug.

"Fuck it, I need something to heal my broken heart," I say. Harry laughs and looks at me.

"Are you okay by the way?" Harry then asks seriously. I shrug again and stuff my mouth with ice cream.

"Cause it's okay not be okay, Avery. Don't be embarrassed because you were sobbing yesterday. It's completely fine to be sad."

"I know Harry, it's just. I kind of saw it coming, always "working" plus he could really be a jerk sometimes. I did have some good times, but I just saw it coming. I was going to break up with him anyway."

"You were?" Harry questions.

"Yeah, I was sick of him being a dick to me when he was drunk and always bailing on me."

"I have to ask you something, and you have to answers in honesty okay?"

"Okay," I answers hesitantly.

"Did he ever hurt you?" Harry asks. I avert my eyes to my ice cream and swallow.

"He did, didn't he?" Harry then asks. I sigh and quietly nod.

"Did anyone know?"

"No."

"Why didn't you tell anyway?"

"Because, Harry, no one wants to admit their boyfriend hits them okay? I would have felt like I ratted him out," I say.

"I understand, but what did he do?"

"Why do you even want to know?" I asked pissed.

"I am in charge of protect you Avery, if I know he hit you on a regular base I can protect you from him. That kind of people don't easily back off when you tell them you're done with them." I nod at his explanation and sigh.

"Sorry, you're right."

"Just, be save, Avery, Lucas is gonna bug you for a while, probably wind up at your door. So if you need protection, I'm right across the door or a just a phone call away. The same for the others. We always help each other out and you have everyone's phone number."

I set my icecream aside and crawl over to Harry to envelop him in a hug.

"Thank you, Harry, for everything," I mumble.

"No problem," Harry answers hugging me back. We stay for that a while before I let go and sit back on the couch and grab my ice cream.

"Did you hear anything from the Ravens yet?" Harry asks when I had eaten half of the icecream and decide to put it back.

"No, I didn't actually," I tell him and sit back down.

"That's a good sign isn't it? That means they don't know where your family is."

"How are you so sure of that?"

"Trust me, if they were serious about killing your mother you would have known."

"So they're save?" I ask surprised.

"I think so. They were probably bluffing and are trying to come up with an excuse. They might be intimidating to the neutrals, and are the reason why London is in lock down. They mean nothing to us and while they think they have to government under control, we are planning an attack on them."

"You are?"

"Yeah, somewhere end March or April they are are gathering in the centre London. That's where we're gonna strike and try kill Stefan."

"But that's so soon! We're almost February!"

"And we're still gonna succeed, Avery, this has to end."

"The Ravens will fall and London will be free."

"What if you fail. What if everything goes miserably wrong, then what will you do?"

"That won't happen."

"How are you so sure about that huh?"

"Because, Avery,"

Harry paused and looked at me dead in the eye.

"Failing is not an option."
