Chapter 3: The Spark

The dark brown haired girl stood up from the harsh landing, wiping off any dust or dirt on her pants. “Why did Ozpin have to launch the students in randomized directions?” she thought, looking back up into the sky. Thankfully, the skies were clear today. This would help with navigation and overall travel. The weather wouldn’t stop the Grimm though, which mean that she had to be careful.

The girl pulled out the large, electric gun lance. She had named it “Zeus’ Strike”, due to its electric blasts in both lance and sniper form. There was no doubt in the girls’ mind that this weapon could handle any Grimm she came across. Sure enough, the Grimm came. Nothing too special however, just a few Beowolves.

The girl loaded the sniper and then transformed it back into the lance, preparing for the enemy to strike first. One of the three wolves rushed towards her in a blind rage, its teeth snarling as it came closer and closer. Before the beast could lay a claw on her, the lance penetrated through the monster’s stomach. The Beowolf screeched as the lance began its transformation back into a sniper, the sharp end cutting the beast in half as it turned into the barrel of the sniper. She aimed quickly at the second Wolf, which were only a few feet behind the first one. One electric blast was enough to make the Beowolf blast backwards from the force, killing it in one fell swoop. The three one was to the right of her, trying to cut the girl off. Unfortunately for the wolf, the girl pointed the sniper at the wolf, fired, than transformed it quickly into a lance. The shot paralyzed the monster at close range, which was shortly followed by a slash to the creature’s head, cutting it off.

Best thing about this, was the girl didn’t get a drop of blood on her somehow. She withdrew the lance and continued walking, hoping to find someone, anyone at all. She was hoping that whoever she met eye contact with; her partner, would be tolerable and nothing more. It’s the best she could hope for after all. Minutes later, there was a disturbance of sound not far from her. This caused instant panic, for the girl had been walking in the woods in silence for a while now. She peeked over the rock she was hiding behind and set eyes on a man, leaning against a large tree. The man was wearing a black leather jacket, a grey shirt, black pants, and a black fedora rested comfortably on his head. He looked up and then his emerald eyes met with the girl’s own sapphire eyes.

She found her partner.

Hunter sighed as he removed Assassin’s Howl from an Ursa skull. The large, bear-like Grimm posed no threat, none of them did. Killing Grimm wasn’t anything Hunter wasn’t us to. He use to hunt them down constantly out of rage after various past events, which he would not dare to remember. The hooded man continued walking through the woods; one thing was on his mind:

“Find a good partner, or don’t get found at all” Hunter thought, distributing his wait so his footsteps and various movements remained silent. Hunter could’ve sworn his plan was working, until a dreadfully joyous voice called out from a good distance away.

“Hey! You alright?” Night asked, moving closer to the hooded man. The guy was too far away to sense his aura, but it was clear to Night’s eyes that he was a student at Beacon, and now his new partner. As Night moved closer to the hooded man, the more he could sense his new partner’s aura.

“What the hell?” Night thought as he examined the hooded man’s aura. His aura was unlike anything he had seen or felt before. It was dark, uninviting, mysterious, and horrid. The worst thing about his aura was it was filled with negativity and mystery, which only lead Night to lessen his small amount of trust for his partner. Regardless, he had to get along with this guy.

“What’s your name?” Night asked, keeping a safe distance away from the still and silent man. The hooded man looked at Night slowly, showing the long scar over his right eye.

“Hunter Armbruster...” He mumbled, “You are?” Night didn’t reply to Hunter’s question right away, because he was too distracted by Hunter’s dark aura and large eye scar. Night shook his head to get out of the zone,

“My name is Night, Night Volstrum! Nice to meet you, Hunter” He greeted, holding out his hand to Hunter. Hunter stared at Night’s hand, not returning the hand shake. Night was already confused by Hunter, and due to Hunter’s aura, Night was even cautious around him.

“So Night”, Hunter spoke up, “What’s your specialty?” Night sighed in relief, hoping that Hunter wasn’t a completely lost cause.

“I’m a Black Smith, and like you, a soon to be hunter” Night explained, holding out Midnight Rubix for Hunter to see. Hunter’s eyes widened in interest,

“Tell me more” Hunter said. He could only imagine the knowledge that Night possessed.

“My name is Thalia Serene, what’s yours?” The girl asked, staring at her partner’s black fedora. At least the two had something in common already; the two both liked wearing hats. The black leather wearing man pulled out a small coin and began flipping it in the air, catching it as it fell.

“Just call me Dust, everyone does” He replied, catching the coin than immediately rubbing his nose gently with the back of his hand. Thalia smiled, “This is going better than I expected” she thought.

“Nice to meet you, Dust! By any change do you know what we do next in this initiation?” Thalia asked as she tried to remember what Ozpin said before everyone was launched into the woods. Dust grinned as he pulled out a small chess piece,

“Oh, you mean these?” Dust questioned as he showed Thalia the small piece.

“I can show you were they’re located!”
