Chapter 44: The Drones

“Ha! No one can beat Team MDNS!” Nakisai laughed as she swung her fists as Thalia and Carmine, forcing the two to evade out of the way of her vicious swings. Suddenly in the middle of Thalia’s fight with Nakisai (with help from Carmine) a large mech fired off dozens of missiles in their direction. The three quickly dispersed and avoided the explosion as best as they could. Once the large mech began to attack the three, another mech joined the assault and separated the two fighting sides further and further from each other. Out of nowhere an explosion hit one of the mechs. The mechs then focused on the new target and moved away from Thalia and Carmine. Thalia looked down her scope to see who the new target was,

As she looked down her crosshairs she saw Hunter spawn a clone with electricity sparking out of its arms. The clone charged at the mech and then placed its palm on the machine, which caused the robot to be drained of all its energy. The second mech attempted to take down Hunter, but by then another explosive clone took out the entire front of the Mech. Once the two mechs were destroyed Hunter growled at the two piles of scrap metal and moved towards Carmine and Thalia.

“Any idea why the Military’s drones are here, or why they’re going ape-shit?” Hunter asked as he took cover. Thalia readied her rifle and began picking off any of the aerial drones that she could shoot from at the current distance. “I have no idea!” Thalia replied, “I would bet the malfunctioning is due to the strangers on this Mountain. According to the woman I just fought, there’s a team of them, called Team MDNS”.

“Any idea on their intentions?” Hunter questioned. Carmine shook his head, “Not a clue. I’m going to find the rest of my Team again, stay safe” Carmine explained as he got up and sprinting back towards the west. The only good thing about this situation was that the harsh winds were beginning to calm down. Thalia shot a few more drones before catching up with the already moving Hunter. The two kept their eyes and ears opened for any kind of danger, as they took their time moving through the snow covered land. Their dialogue was just as quiet as the two were in their dorm room; they only spoke when necessary. Hunter and Thalia didn’t speak a word until Hunter looked at the chaos of drones fighting against some team. All he could see was a bunch of drones shooting down at something, as dozens began getting shot down by sniper shots, shot gun blasts and shards of ice. He looked back at Thalia and was puzzled by the look on her face,

“You alright?” He asked as he stared at Thalia’s frown. Thalia was not known to be sad or frown at all, even in some of the more serious times. It looked like faint tears were formed in her eyes as she stared at the mayhem in the distance. She looked up in surprise at Hunter’s question and then quickly looked back down,

“I’ve just had some... bad experiences in the past with military” She answered quietly. Hunter stopped walking and looked over his shoulder to look at her, “It can’t be as bad as my past with the military”. Thalia stared into Hunter’s orange eyes; they were practically glowing with rage as he recalled the past. He was right about that, her past with the Military was not nearly as bad as Hunter’s, but it still hurt her to remember it.

“My father was in the Military... so I didn’t see him often. When I did, he was always disappointed in me. Whatever I was doing was not enough for him, but I never knew what he wanted or expected me to be. My mother was no help either; whenever my father was gone to fight she would get really depressed. Whenever he was home, the two would argue about his position with being in the Military... so I was never supported while he was gone and I was not comforted when he was home” Thalia explained as tears slowly rolled down her cheeks. Hunter paused and after a minute slowly hugged Thalia,

“I kind of understand what you mean” Hunter said quietly, “I never knew my father and you know what ended up happening to my mother” He paused and took a step back from Thalia, “We’ve practically been through the same thing, besides; you helped me through my problems when it came to confessing that I was a Faunus... I guess it makes sense to repay you back” Hunter finished explaining. He wasn’t the most thrilled about repaying Thalia back for her past kindness, but it was the right thing to do. He grinned as he stared at the drones and the mechs in the distance,
