Michael's POV

I am confused about my feelings for this Lady Jane. My mind doesn't know, nor does my heart. I keep contradicting myself, in every way. I need a good queen, not a good distraction.

That is what she is. A distraction.

But why is she so distracting?

I had no idea on how to answer this one simple question.

Jane has been quiet all through the first two courses of dinner. All the other ladies at my table are all nobles or lords daughter. To be honest they are all stuck up spoiled brats. I definitely know that these noble ladies want power and status. It is easy to tell. They are raised into power and their fathers want them to be sold off to the highest bidder, or given to someone with power. These girls love power not the one they will wed. It's a disgrace that they are like this.

I have to be strong for my people.

And so does their soon-to-be Queen.

Giggling brought me out of my thoughts. The nobles daughters were trying to get my attention. Again.

I took a sip of my wine.

I wish I was drunk, then I could handle all of this flirting.

The noble girls kept on trying, and miserably failing to get my undivided attention. The only one that wasn't talking was Jane.

Was I wrong to act like that?

I honestly don't know.

All of this confusion must be causing this headache. It wasn't excruciating, it was just a discomfort.

I stand abruptly, shocking all of them. As doing so I feel slightly dizzy.

"Excuse me ladies." I start walking towards the kitchen.

All the girls beady eyes were watching me, their eyes follow my every move. I continue to walk towards the kitchen, acting unfazed by their mere actions.

I sighed, finally making it into the kitchen.

"Adam" I walk deeper into the kitchen. Cooks and maids stop what they are doing and bow to me out of respect. But I don't pay attention as the world before my eyes start to sway.

"Scribe, Adam!" I managed to yell out into the kitchen. I felt like I was choking on my own words. A rush of unknown feelings washed over me. My head started to feel lighter.

"Adam get the hell over here." I see one of the maids yelling. "Adam. He. Needs. Help. Now!"

I feel my knee's buckle underneath me. My hands collide with the floor, stopping my head from hitting the concrete ground below. My vision is now blurry. I see a figure running to me.

"Micheal, Micheal." the voice is muffled. I feel my shoulders being shaken by who I presume was the figure in front of me.

"Get-" The voices continue to cut in and out. "Poisoned-" I strain my ears trying to listen to what the person is saying. "Now!"

The people around me start to sink into the darkness. The last thing I hear is a scream.

Jane POV

The scene before me kept playing over and over again in my head.

We were laughing then he just went blank. There was no proof of the glee that was in his eyes that were there moments before, instead there looked like he held regret.

There were many noble girls at the table. They were obviously trying to get his attention. There dresses showed off too much cleavage and there corsets were extremely tight.
