Jane POV
I awoke to a strange continuous beeping sound. I have never heard anything. It seemed to match my heartbeat. I slowly opened my eyes, only to be met by a blinding light. I close them quickly, to stop the light stinging my eyes. I wait a few moments, listening to the steady beeping. I opened my eyes again. This time I was prepared.
I look around the room. The walls were a plain white colour, actually the whole room was plain. I push myself up into a sitting position, I feel a slight tug on the inside of my arm. I look down at my arm. Tubes were sticking out of it. I scream, attempting to pull them out. People, who I have never seen before, run into the room, some holding me down. A man walk in after them.
"Lady Jane, please calm down. I know that you don't have access to this type of thing in the past, but these tubes," he says pointing to the tubes that are sticking out of my arm. "Administrate medicine that is helping you recover from that terrible accountant with the assassin."
AS he says this I remember what happened. The plan Charlotte and I made, the story I mean.
"Where am I? How did I get here?" I look up at the man, who is now standing at the end of the bed. I make sure my breathing patterns are odd and faster then they should be. The beeping sound seems to do the same as my breathing. It lost its steady pattern and was now beeping at a fast rate.
"Lady Jane please calm down." The man sits next to me. Nodding at the people who were restraining me.
Stupid cover. If I didn't have to be bloody proper I could of taken them all out. I snicker at that though.
"I am Dr Byrne. You are in the hospital, and you were carried here. Lady Jane, you lost too much blood. And the Trials have been.." He hesitated for a moment. "..Postponed at this point in time."
I nod my head, letting my breathing settle. Again the beeping gets more steady.
"What's the beeping sound?" I ask the doctor, my voice sounding hoarse as if I had just woken up.
I mean I did just wake up. But I haven't been asleep for long. Right?
Dr Byrne sighed.
"That beeping is your heartbeat." He says looking back down at me.
I give him a confused look, clearly trying to show his that i don't understand.
"It makes the beeping sound every time your heartbeats." He points over to a machine displaying a line at spikes every time it beeps.
"Oh." I place my hands on my lap, looking down at them. I feel a slight heat radiate off of my cheeks. I am sure I have a slight blush.
The doctor laughs.
"It's okay that you didn't know. Not many people do." He pats my shoulder while standing up.
He walks over to the door.
"Oh, and Lady Jane." He turns to look at me. "It is very kind and brave thing you did for the prince. Charlotte told me about everything she saw. You have a few hours of rest before some guards will come in to ask you some questions about the whole event." He turns back and continues to walk out the door.
"Wait-um- Dr Byrne?" I hesitate, trying to pick the right words. "How long was I asleep for?"
The Doctor looked hesitant, as if he was contemplating whether or not he should tell me.
"Only for two days." after he said those four words he hurriedly walked out the door closing it behind him.
I continue staring at the door. Maybe Longer than thought, as the promised guards walked in and started firing question after question at me. Two of them stood at either side of the bed asking these dreadfully boring questions, and a third guard sitting down with a recorder.
