Michael POV

Her cheeks are a light shade of pink.

"Adorable," I breathlessly say.

Her checks become a darker shade, indicating that she heard me. I mentally curse myself. I chuckle lightly at her, trying to not draw attention to my own blush.

Why did she have to hear me?

I mentally groan in annoyance.

The shy girl that sits before me is so unlike the usual tough nut personality that she shows off. A soft side to a fierce woman.

Even the sharpest blades are the most graceful.

Memories of what my father told me ring in my head. They all conflict with this woman who has caught my eye.

"A queen should be submissive."

She is strong. Independent almost

"A queen should focus on your needs."

She cares for all.

"A queen should never question the authority of the throne."

She is always curious.

"A queen is to bare an heir, a son."

She is meant for more.

"Most importantly, a queen is seen but silent."

She is definitely not silent, she tells you what is on her mind. Although she is very much seen. Many openly stare at her beauty. She is just oblivious to her own beauty to notice the attention she is receiving.

She is humble but knows where she stands. She is independent. She is a queen that deserves a fairytale. A true Queen.

But yet she is a stranger.

"So Lady Jane, who are you outside these walls?" I gesture around the courtyard where we are sitting. Trying to create small talk to break the silence.

"Just a simple maiden I suppose. Nothing really. I cook, clean and sew a little, like fixing dresses and shirts." She looks almost bored repeating her daily duties.

"Sometimes I wish I had a commoners life. There is no pressure," I sigh thinking about that luxury.

Jane laughs softly.

"Quick question, how would you like working from six in the morning till six in the evening, twelve hours in the hot sun doing labor work- building, farming, herding animals. Then coming home to do taxes and spend another hour with you wife and children. Fill out the rest of the paperwork and then going to sleep after midnight?" She tilts her head.

"Well..;' when she puts it that way it sounds less appealing. "A family is all I want."

"You can get a family in any status,"

"That is true."

She laughs again.

"Exactly."

"Better then being told who you have to be, and then being molded into that," I murmur.

Surprisingly she hears me.

"I find it strange that a king doesn't know his subjects. You are describing our lives as well. Say for example, if I want to go exploring I am seen as a rebel. If I want to learn mathematics I am seen as an impostor. If I wanted to express my thoughts I would be punished," she gestures to some guards that were walking past. "They make sure we are the subjects and nothing more, nothing less," she shrugs it off as if it is nothing.
