Chapter 15: Shadow's Reign

After hours of walking, I've only just made it to the outskirts of the kingdom. I still have to make it past the paddocks before I even have a chance of surviving. The sun has long set beneath the horizon, letting the moon cast its shadow upon the kingdom.

There is a slim chance that I could possibly survive. If I tell the Royals everything, from the assassination plan to the blackmailing even to the main base in the city, maybe I can have a chance. But in their eyes, I committed treason, so I would be killed. If I live on the run I have a chance if I go live in the forest. Towns and cities aren't safe anymore, both royal guards, and the Queen's guards would be there. If the scribe is to tell someone I will be hunted by them all. All kingdoms and even their enemy will be after my head.

I keep walking down the main road, my hood covering my face from the moonlight, and the odd lamp post. The clothes I'm wearing just keep me warm as they are not designed to face cold nights. My mind wanders into thoughts of the future.

If I do survive this, what will I do for a living? Be a highly trained thief, own a small shop, sell herbs that I gather from the forest.

I shake my head, clearing these false hopes away.

Realistically I've got a week or two, and if the Royals find out about my role in the Queen's plot then I will have even less time. I must savour my last days. Perhaps even travelling to a seaside town that is nearby.

If I can even make it there-

I slow down, looking up at the moon that now hangs high in the sky.

"I'm going to die," I whisper up at it. "I'm going to die either way,"

Tears well at the edges of my eyes, making the night sky a blurry fight between light and dark. Tears slowly roll down my face.

My slow paces turn still, the night harbouring my sorrow. Letting me rest in my own misfortunes.

A man in a cart approaches me, most likely a merchant. He doesn't say anything, avoiding my gaze. The moon highlights the tear streaks on my face. He shies away from my gaze, avoiding it with obvious guilt.

This is probably an occasion he is familiar with. Seeing people flee from places, but he still needs to feed his own. Your survival is based on your usefulness to the kingdom. Even with the Queens.

"I am going to die," a sob escapes my lips. "I am actually going to die. "

I fall to my knees. Sobs rocking through my body. My dress getting covered in dirt. Right this moment, I don't care. I don't even know where to start. I am completely lost. I have no hope of having a fulfilled life. No hope at all.

My sobs break the quiet night air, filling it with my sadness, letting it be known to all.

Unlike many girls my age, they would be getting married while I have a price for my head.

Unlike many girls, they would be forced to wed.

Unlike other girls, I have training equal to a royal guard.

And unlike other girls, I've got blood on my hands.

Slowly my sobs subside. If I die it is fair to all those who I have murdered, innocent or not. Good or evil, they are all the same.

Wiping away the tears, I stand. The moon watching over me I swear to be in history. I swear to change society for good or for bad.

If I am going to die, then I am going to go out big.

I am going to end this reign. This evil Reign of Kings.

A/N

Sorry for a short chapter, will probably re-write it once I am happy with my progress. I didn't know what else to add, but I liked it.

also, if you didn't read the A/N before. I am going to be focusing on writing for a little rather then updating the story.

I promise to still update, but you will have to wait before I create an update schedule.

Hopefully ....
