Chapter 3: The Breakout
"Prisoners have escaped in building 13! Security system is activated! Security level NBK4! Move! Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go!" I hear the loud crash of metal bars behind me as they attempt to corner us. Not very subtle. They must be confident in catching us if they are this obvious in their techniques.
As we sprint around a corner, I see Uno running past me in the direction that we just came from. I look back in time to see him wink at one of the cameras. Looks like they're not the only cocky ones, though. Uno easily makes his way back up to the front, his smirk never wavering.
Slam!
The hallway is instantly cut off by a metal wall. "Trapped like rats, eh?" Uno remarks with amusement in his voice. I don't see how any part of our situation is amusing though.
Nico chimes in, "This reminds me of when I escaped from prison in Chicago. Good times!" Good times? Tch, I should have expected that. Nico is always so happy go lucky. As it turns out, there is still an open passage just to our left. We begin running that way without a moment's hesitation. It's convenient that this hallway was left open...a little too convenient...
My thoughts are cut short when something Uno says catches my attention. " Hajime is probably watching the monitors with his veins all popped out right now." Hajime? Oh, the gorilla. I feel the corners of my mouth tilt up at the though of the angry prison guard. We suddenly turn right when another metal wall comes down in front of us.
"Looks like they're gonna try to steer us to block 20." If Rock knows where we're going, he must have already attempted to escape. Too bad I wasn't with him. If I was, he would already be out of here.
"Well then! What kind of security trap awaits us next? I can't wait!"
Ignoring Uno's comment, I focus on keeping up with the rest of the group. Following the only possible route, we end out in... an empty hallway? This-This has to be a trick. Right? Rock and Nico seem to completely ignore any form of thought as they attempt to run forward with no hesitation. I reach toward them in a futile effort to stop them. Just as I'm about to open my mouth to call out to them, their bodies jerk backwards.
I follow the arm holding their shirts to see Uno, each arm attached to one of their collars. Uno retracts his arms and tilts his hat down as he commands, "Wait a sec you guys." In unison, Rock and Nico tilt their heads. Uno then pulls a card out of literally nowhere. Wha-What? Where did he get that from?
"What's wrong, Uno?"
"Nothing much, Rock, just a hunch. And have my hunches ever been wrong?"
With a smirk on his face, Rock replies, "Not that I could ever remember." With that, him and Nico both step back to let Uno test his hunch.
Before I can fully process what's happening, the card is flying through the air. Then, out of nowhere, it burns up. For a split second, red lines flash into existence all around the room. Ah, a trap. I can handle this one easily. All I need to do is find the control panel. All other actions around me seem to fade out as I let my instincts take over.
In the background, I hear the sounds of chalk on the ground and something about the layout of the lasers. Ignoring them, I go to work.
As if commanded, my brain immediately says to check the walls. Of course! If a guard were to pass through, there would need to be activation panels on both sides of the room! I begin to press down on the walls. Then, my hand presses inwards. As I retract my hand, a medium sized door pops open. I slide it up to reveal controls that I can only assume belong to the trap in this room.
Time to break in!
I place my hand over the touch screen and a blue pop-up reading 'Disabled' appears. Bet you thought I was actually gonna do something. Well, you thought wrong!
Thud. Thud. Thud.
As soon as I turn around I can clearly see three bodies piled in the floor. I put my hands on the back of my head as I casually strut over.
"Jyugo-kun! How'd you get here?" Ah, peppy as usual. Even after almost dying to lasers. Nico is definitely a mystery that has yet to be solved.
"I walked?"
"Yahhh? What about those lasers? I could have sworn that my card got all burnt up..."
"Uno, I deactivated them," I reply as my signature smirk crawls onto my face once again.
"If you knew how to deactivate them, you should have said something!"
"Don't mean to be a mood killer, but can we get this over with? I'm getting reeeeeeeaaaal hungry over here," Rock chimes in. Man, he really is a big foodie. We just ate dinner less than 2 hours ago.
"Yah! Don't look at me like I'm food! I-" Uno's rant is cut off by the walls closing in on us. Literally
A/N: Ahhhhhhhh, I meant to make this waaaaaaay longer. I felt bad for not updating, so I just uploaded what I had done. Sorry if it's a little rough/awkward. I wrote this during the car ride home from the beach and didn't really edit it yet ;-; I'll get the rest of the breakout in the next chapter though! Hope you enjoy! 💜💜💜
