"I just- I think it's impractical," Logan hissed as Roman propelled him forwards.
"You came to me for help," Roman fired back.
"But what does it mean? It just makes me look stupid because obviously, he is not actually-"
"Do you want to do him or not?" Roman stopped, turning to face Logan.
"Do him? What does-" Logan reached into his back pocket, pulling out his vocab cards and flipping through them with haste. "Is this another..." He stopped as he read the definition of that card, his face turning red.
"I'll take that as a yes," Roman acknowledged, pushing Logan's vocab cards down out of his face. "Look, trust me. This is what's going to make this go perfectly. He's going to love it."
"But-"
"Just do it," Roman groaned, pushing Logan towards Patton's doorway, "It'll be just like we practised! Go!"
Logan looked back at Roman anxiously before knocking on the door. He adjusted his shirt and glasses, straightened his tie, and coiffed his hair just as Patton opened the door. "Hey, Patton...?" He said, his voice unreasonably high pitched.
"Yes, Logan?"
"Um..." Logan blanked for a second and considered running as far as possible in the other direction immediately. Or maybe just dying. Eventually, his voice returned to him, and he cleared his throat, face flushing. "Are you Crofters? Because you're my jam."
Logan closed his eyes before he could see Patton's reaction. He pulled up his shoulders and turned his face away, wincing. His fists clenched and he could only think of how astronomically he had screwed up.
It's something he would regret if he knew to regret it. Because in his embarrassed reaction, Logan missed Patton's smile, slow and bright, as it crept onto his face. He missed Patton's silent laugh and the way that he covered up his enormous smile with one hand. He missed the tears that welled up momentarily in Patton's eyes as he was overcome with joy and love.
Logan felt a pair of arms embrace him fiercely, and Patton's head pressed into his chest. He didn't realize how much taller he was than Patton. He reached his arms out and wrapped them around the other side.
Patton looked up at Logan, then straightened.
Logan pretended to not be put off by the fact that they were now the same height.
Logan analyzed Patton's face, taking in every detail. He looked at the way Patton's glasses fell sort of askew on his face after hugging Logan. He took in the detail of his smile, the way it reached his eyes effortlessly. Reasonably, he knew that if he were to look in a mirror, he would see the same thing, but this was different. Looking at Patton's face, at the heart in his eyes... it made Logan feel happy.
And that's a lot for someone who doesn't feel anything at all.
"Can I kiss you?" Logan breathed, amazed he was still able to speak after being so close to Patton.
"Yes," Patton responded almost immediately, and Logan could feel him shaking. If he had to admit it- and he didn't want to- he was shaking too.
Logan leaned towards him, placing his hands on Patton's face gently.
"ahhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHH!" An obnoxious squeal echoed from the back of the mind palace. Logan turned and saw Roman watching intently, his hands clapping together like a child on Christmas.
"Uh... Roman? Thanks for your help but... kind of in the middle of something right now," Logan prompted, trying not to get mad.
"Oh!" Roman stood, crashing into a lamp. "I- Yes, of course. My bad. So sorry!" Roman disappeared, and Logan turned back to Patton, face reddening.
"I..." He started, not sure where he was going with it. He reached up to adjust his tie, but Patton caught his hands. He intertwined their fingers and leaned forward, pressing his lips against Logan's. Logan's eyes fluttered closed, and he sighed contentedly.
Patton pulled away slowly, and Logan opened his eyes. He only surveyed Patton's face for a second before kissing him again with feverish intensity. As his hands rested on Patton's hips, he felt a smile creeping onto his lips. He couldn't contain it. He couldn't hold it back.
That's just what love does.
