"What are you doing back here?" Virgil asked, shocked. Of all the things he had expected to happen tonight, Deceit showing up at his door was not one of them.
"Oh, you know, I was in the neighbourhood. Decided there was no point in me dropping by." Deceit said, looking in the room behind Virgil, and in the area behind him as well. "I don't want to come in," He said, pushing past Virgil.
Virgil felt his anger flare up again. "Do you only ever speak in lies?" He asked, annoyed.
Deceit turned to face Virgil, striking another elegant pose. "Well, they don't call me Deceit for a reason." He said, brushing some imaginary dirt off of his shoulder.
"Really funny," Virgil said, rolling his eyes. "You know, it would have been nice for us to have been able to talk without me having to decode every single thing you said to me."
"Would have been?" Deceit repeated, raising a snake-skinned eyebrow.
"When... we were together." Virgil explained, putting his hands in his pockets again.
"Ah. No, I don't think I would have wanted that," Deceit said, winking at him.
Virgil huffed, throwing his hands up into the air, "Ugh. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Can't you just say one true thing?" He began walking away, expecting Deceit to just leave, until he felt a gloved hand on his wrist.
"Wait," Deceit said, his mask of dishonesty falling away again. "V, I'm sorry. That's not what I came here to say."
"What is then?" Virgil asked, glaring at Deceits hand on his wrist.
"I... I love you," Deceit said defeatedly, once again not meeting Virgil's eyes.
"I... You- what?" Virgil hissed, stepping backwards.
"I'm sorry. That's what I wanted to tell you, but then Roman was here, and I knew I couldn't, but then I couldn't get your face out of my head and I just- I just had to. I had to tell you. I still love you, V. I still love you, and I want to get back together with you."
"Deceit..." Virgil said, quietly, "You know where we went wrong. And you know we can't go back. You know that. As much as you may want to. As much... As much as I might want to. But you know we can't."
Deceit still wasn't looking at him. "I know that," He said quietly. "I just needed you to know. That prince isn't going to do anything for you. He's going to move on as soon as he gets the chance."
"This isn't about Roman."
"Then what is it about?" Deceit asked desperately, finally meeting Virgil's eyes.
"I guess it's about what I think is best... for me..." Virgil said eventually, feeling selfish.
Deceit nodded, turning away. He stopped before he reached the door, and asked, "Can I just do one last thing?"
"What?"
Virgil braced himself, but Deceit surprised him. He spun around and quickly pressed his lips against Virgils. Virgil gasped, remembering everything that had happened before, all of the memories of this exact action, of everything they had done. He unconsciously reached up and touched Deceit's scaled face, surprised at how familiar it still felt to him.
Deceit pulled away, but their faces remained close. "I'll be here." Is all he said, before turning and leaving the room.
