Virgil (Ch.33)

"Virgil..." I found myself walking down this long corridor filled with empty picture frames and tables with wilted roses. "Virgil..."  His voice echoed through the hall calling out to me. The fear was so strong in his voice it clawed at me. "Virgil." I ran down the endless hallway desperate to reach him. "VIRGIL!" The world went black and I froze spinning around searching, pleading for a glimmer of hope. "VAERIL!"

This blast of light burst through the world chasing the shadows away and I slowly made my way to see Roman laying in the mud and dirt. He was blindfolded and covered in blood. Blood... that seemingly came from nothing. He shook with apparent fear as tears soaked the blindfold causing it to glow as if painted with glow in the dark paint. His whole body looked like a bright star shining a bright yellow against the black it caused to recede.

"V-Vae..." His voice cracked as the glowing got brighter in response to the pain he was feeling. I... I could even feel it. As if Roman was calling out to me to make it all go away. As if his pain was so strong the realm burned with a need to help ease it. "V-Virgil..."

I reached out towards him desperate to take the pain away but the moment my fingers brushed his skin he was gone. I jumped up and spun around to see Roman standing there behind me. This time there was no blindfold. Instead, he wore the outfit I saw him last in except this time. There was blood covering his shirt emanating around a gash that did not meet his skin.

"Roman?" He smiled brightly as I took a step closer to him. His golden eyes glowing almost as bright as the body of the Roman from before. "What's going on?"

"I didn't think it would work." His body glowed only slightly as he reached out to me. His hand brushed against my cheek and I melted into the warmth that enveloped around me. "I didn't think I would see you again."

"Roman..." He pulled me in letting the calming heat surround us both. He really was like his own personal star. Warm... bright... and beautiful. I looked up to see him cry a little and frowned at how it made his skin glitter. "Roman, where are you?"

"Hush, now Virgil. I'm ok." I pushed out of his arms and felt my own tears start to fall.

"Ok? What was that then?"  I gestured to the empty black behind me as if the phantom of what I saw before was somehow still there. "What's going on, Ro?"

"I told you... I didn't think it would work." His eyes grew dark as he smiled sadly. "You weren't supposed to see that."

"See what, Ro?" He frowned and I snapped. "SEE WHAT, RO?!" The world slowly started to fade again and by the fearful look in Roman's eyes, I could tell it wasn't good. "ROMAN?!"

"Virgil!" I jumped up with a start only to see Deceit standing there terrified. I had fallen asleep. That... That was a dream. Obviously, that was a dream but... But why... I shook myself from my thoughts and stood up to stretch. Roman was missing. I was clearly worried about him. I'm scared... and I don't know what happened to him. So... I dreamed about him. God damn it, Roman. Where are you? Deceit took my hands and I looked up to see him crying. Shit... "Virgil, you were calling for him."

"Sorry I... I dreamed about him." His eyes darkened and I frowned as he knelt down wiping the tears that fell from my eyes despite his own.

"Again? What... what happened this time?" I pulled my hands out of his and hugged myself tightly as I broke inside. The memory of how his pain burned through me was still fresh. It broke my heart.

"He was crying out for me. Yelling out for me... t-to help him." I choked a bit and Deceit's face paled as I continued. "He was c-covered in blood a-and in so much pain. S-So m-much p-pain... Dee, I felt it. I could feel his pain. It cut me..." He pulled me into a hug and I just broke down. "I'm losing my mind. I have to be. I mean... He was glowing." Deceit tensed up as he looked down at me in confusion. I just pushed myself further into him. "He was glowing like... like a... a..."

"A star?" I pulled away to see Deceit staring off at nothing and I frowned. He glanced over at me with this sad smile that spoke volumes.

"Dee, what is..." He just shook his head sighed. "Dee, he's..."

"We're nearing the encampment, Virgil. We're going to get him back. I promise." I narrowed my eyes as he frowned. "I won't fail him again."

"How do we even know he's there? I'm not exactly an interrogator." Deceit eyes went dark as he looked away and I frowned.

"Virgil, you were downright scary... I would be shocked if he wasn't here." He got up and slowly moved back over to the driver seat... and away from me. I was scary? I... I scared him. I didn't think I... I hugged myself tighter as memories flooded through me. Maybe... Maybe I did... let go a little too much.

"VIRGIL!" I slammed the guy hard against the wall pinning him back as I looked back to glare over at Deceit. "What are you doing?"

"I'm getting answers." I felt the guy start to squirm under my grip so I pun around and punch the wall. I sent my fist right through it causing the man to freeze up at the sight of the whole right beside his head. "Where's Prince Roman?"

"W-Who?" His voice cracked as he fearfully looked back at Deceit, begging for help. Deceit was just watching with horror-filled eyes I punch the man in his gut.

"THE HUMAN PRINCE!" I yelled out just before grabbing his hair, spinning him around, and smashing his nose into the wall. Blood poured out of his now broken nose as he cried in total fear. "Where is he?"

"I-I don't..." I kicked his feet out from under him causing him to fall on his ass before I jumped on top of him and grabbed his collar. I let my disguise drop and his eyes went wide. I could literally see him contemplating death but the idea of what I, a dark elf, could do to him sent him reeling.

"Where Is Roman Sanders?"

"Virgil, we can't be certain he actually knows anything." I started to growl out and the man nearly passed out under me from pure terror. I could see his hair turning white. Deceit froze up refusing to get any closer as I let my fangs show. Did you know Dark elves are the only elven race that had fangs? "V-Virgil?"

"Did you know that the Drow have this unique ability? All elves do it isn't uncommon but ours... We can make the darkness inside you eat away at the light." His eyes went all glossy as his body shook beneath him. "We can control the darkness. We can feed it. It'll eat away at you until your nothing but a hollow."

"VIRGIL!" I laughed a bit as I stood up letting my disguise comeback. That was enough to do the trick. I knew it was. Hollows are undead monsters... feral ghouls that personify evil in purity. They're shrouded in shadows... That's part of the reason Drow were thought to be evil necromancers. They thought we could create and control them. That every Hollow attack was somehow us. They thought we created them. They were wrong. But the fear is still there...

"R-Right o-off the edge of m-m-morel-ling l-lake." I smiled brightly as I turned around proud of myself. I got an answer. I got a location. Even more... We can save Roman. "Eastern sh-shore by the elven f-forest."

"Deceit was I really that scary?" I glanced over at the snake sitting in the driver seat and my heart dropped hearing his reply.

"I was actually terrified."
