Jon's POV

<~> <~>

The sky was just changing from light blue to bright orange as I walked the short distance from the gate to my front door and I sighed once more as the events from earlier went on repeat in my head.

I  couldn't forgo the shocked look on Danny's face as he stood by and watched me threaten his dad.

I didn't mean to but he reminded me too much of my dad and unlike me, Danny couldn't represent himself, atleast not in the way that I knew how to.

That wasn't how I wanted to end our perfect night. I only wanted to continue lying on the bed with him sleeping peacefully in my arms.

Her phone call changed everything and since then, the morning continued to spiral out of control.

I took a deep breath as I tried not to beat myself up and was surprised when I saw several officers ransacking my house as a few others waited on me.

"What, is going on here?" I asked, my annoyance with the police force reaching new heights.

"Mr. Crawford-"

"That's my dad, my name is Jon."

"Jon, we need to take you down to the station for more questioning."

"That still doesn't explain why your men are ransacking my house."

"This might."

Detective Burnes pulls a few sheets of paper from his pocket and hands it to me. I barely had time to scan through the warrant when he whips out his handcuffs and goes to stand behind me.

"I'm still confused. Is there a new development in the case? Did my dad say something? Is he out of surgery?"

"Oh you didn't hear?" He tightens the cuffs before pulling me closer to him. "Your dad's dead."

And with that statement, he pushed me through the door.

Outside, I was almost blindsided by the many flashing lights as my once empty street was now busy with news reporters, cameramen and bystanders all trying to talk above the other in some attempt to understand what had happened when my brain was still trying to play catch up with the news the detective just told me.

Jon! Jon! Over here! Over here!

What happened that night?

Did you kill your dad?

Why did you kill your dad?

Is it over money?

Jon! Jon!

My heart was racing as my body was forced this way and that and I tried not to curse as my shoulder was slammed roughly against the car before I was pushed in.

The drive was fast and bumpy and as I stared out the window I noticed the people littering the streets on our way to the station.

We once again repeated the routine and by its end a headache was starting to form.

As I took a seat in one of the interrogation rooms, I stared blankly at my hands as it was being released from its restraints.

"Okay, Jon."

"I need to make a phone call."

"Yeah? Well I need a million dollars. But I ain't gonna get shit, now will I?"

"I'm entitled to a phone call. I need to call my lawyer and-"

"Only a guilty man seeks out protection."
