Sam

I felt empty, my heart shattered into thousands of tiny pieces as I could only try to imagine the amount of pain Minho was in.

The lights had suddenly gone out in the camp earlier, and a berg had flown past, lightening up the area around it. WCKD wasn't giving up.

I had also met up with Sonya and Aris, their pale, sunken faces like a blow to the gut.

It was dark outside, and my mother had taken Alex to bed. She took it upon herself to look after him when I was in bad shape. He couldn't see his mother like this, completely exhausted and unable to cease her continuous crying.

I needed Minho back.

"Oh, Sam." Newt sighs, as he takes in my state once again. Flooded with tears and heartbroken. "We'll get Minho back, one way or another. I promise you."

He crouches down, staring into my eyes with sympathy swirling in his brown orbs. The blonde teen was about to open his mouth to say something else, when there is a creak and the sound of footsteps passing by.

It was Thomas, and he was heading towards the jeeps.

Newt helps me to my feet, and begins to pack some of his clothes. I do the same, secretly packing vial after vial of the blue liquid, to keep the black veins and the insanity at bay.

I explain to my mother the current situation, and she agrees to take care of my son whilst I was gone. But there was a catch.

I had to come back alive.

So I kissed her and my son on the head, and said my goodbyes, before leaving the tent and arriving at the jeep with the Newt and Frypan.

Thomas suddenly rounds the corner, stopping in his tracks as he registers the scene infront of him.

"We can't let you go Tommy." Newt sighs, before adding "Not alone, anyway."

Thomas sighs in relief, scanning the gladers around him. His eyes meet my red, bloodshot ones and he sighs visibly. "Sam-"

I interrupt him, not wanting another lecture, "I'm coming, okay? Another week at this camp will destroy me."

He nods, and helps me into the car, holding my hand and comforting me as we set off into the darkness of the night, unprepared for the chaos that awaits us.

-----

The sun had risen once again, and the sweltering heat burnt our skin. I tug Minho's large jacket, that I stole before the incident, around my small frame, protecting my skin from the powerful sun rays. And I begin to relace my combat boots.
