"Her name was Rachel." Aris interrupts my line of thought, "She was taken like the others, and I told her she'd be okay. We'd meet again."

He casts his tear filled eyes away. "Why are they doing this-" The large metal doors slide open, the hissing of the air jets filling the room.

Me and Aris duck behind some air tanks as Mr Janson steps into the room. He presses a button on a control and Dr Paige appears on a glass screen. I hold back a gasp, as I stare at the woman who faked her suicide on the video clip.

"Good evening Dr Paige, lovely to see you again. Although I admit, I had not expected to here from you quite so soon." Mr Janson geets Dr Paige as she shuffles papers on a white desk, his gravelly voice bouncing off of the walls.

"A slight change of plans Janson, alittle earlier than expected, first thing tomorrow." She explains, rising from her seat and brushing the invisible dirt from the crisp white dress, hanging from her pale shoulders.

"Ah, I'll be delighted to have you, and I think you'll be pleased with the progress we've made." Janson bites on his thumbnail, obviously worried about what Ava was about to say. "And, as you can see, earlier results have been extremely promising." He presses the screen and a file pops up, Dr Paige examines it closely as he continues to talk. "Whatever it is that you've been doing in there, it's working." Janson smirks, and Aris shuffles uncomfortably.

"But not well enough." Ava Paige stares at Janson with fatigue, "I've just received board approval, and I want all of the remaining subjects sedated and harvested by the time I arrive."

"Dr Paige, we are going as fast as we can." Janson returns, his voice wavering with a threatening tone.

"Try something faster! We still haven't found the other group, and the Right Arm have hit another one of our installations. I can't afford another loss, not when I am so close to finding a cure." Dr Paige arranges some papers on her desk and sits back down on her chair.

"May I suggest we start with the newest arrivals then?" Janson smirks viciously and turns around, heading out of the room after Dr Paige replies to him. My breath hitches in my throat, I need to get back to the Gladers.

"Just get it done." She snaps, not looking up to meet Janson's harsh glare. He taps a button and the screen disappears, Janson then leaves the room - a guard following in suit.

Sam

The small clock ticks noisily in the corner of the room, reminding me that the seconds have turned to minutes - minutes almost into hours. Thomas and Aris were still not back, and the dark feeling of doubt continues to grow in the back of my mind.

Finally, after what seems like hours the thumps of the boys' knees against the vent grows louder. My head snaps upwards and I rise from my seat on the bed as Thomas clambers from the vent, a fresh line of sweat on his forehead.

"We have to go now." Thomas swipes a hand across his forehead and begins to pull bedsheets from the spare bed in the corner of the room. He roughly grasps the sheets and ties them around the door frame and handle, then pulling the mattress and laying it against the door.

Thomas then turns to us Gladers, who are watching him with anticipation. "It is WICKED, it has always been WICKED. We never escaped them."
