"Hey," I answered Julie's phone call.

I was in Emma's house. We were in her bed. She was on her side, and I'm pretty sure she was half asleep.
I realized Julie was crying when she called my name.
"Julie, what's wrong?"
Some kind of alarm went off inside of me.
"I broke up with him," she said in between sobs.
"You broke up with Evan?" I was shocked, and it hit me: I had missed a whole fucking chapter.
"Yeah."

My first thought was to have her come over. "I can ask-" I began explaining.
But then I realized that she shouldn't be walking alone in that state, because she doesn't really notice her surroundings when she's upset.
"I'm coming to pick you up. Where are you?"

I texted my mom telling her I needed Julie to stay over the night. She replied right away with a thumbs-up emoji.
She was familiar with our dynamic; which was good because it facilitated this sort of thing.

I pressed my hand on Emma's shoulder. She whined and turned around for me.
"I'm sorry, baby. Julie needs me. I'm picking her up and going back to my house. I'll tell you how it goes, and we can meet again tomorrow, I guess; or maybe the day after that."
She nodded and I left a kiss on her forehead before leaving.

I arrived to the street that the location pin she sent me announced.
She was sitting on the curb, hiding her face in between her legs.
I sat by her side and grabbed her arm with the intention of letting her rest in my shoulder.
She laid her head on my clavicle and cried in silence.

My shirt dampened, and I spent almost the entire time running my fingers through her hair.
I tried my best to stay quiet. What she needed right now was a safe space to cry.

Later, once we were in my room, she explained everything in detail.
She told me about the anxiety she had been getting lately. About how she was centered on her own issues and didn't really know how to help him out. The way he clearly loved her way more, and how that made her uncomfortable.
I would jump in wth feedback and validation every chance I got.

Once she was over processing the situation, she suggested a movie, and so we watched Lemonade Mouth.
I learned that being gay makes you die when She's So Gone comes on, and also make you notice that Hayley Kiyoko's character is the queerest in Disney, appropietly.

We ordered pizza and it fit perfect with the second movie: The Ugly Truth.
Then chocolate chip mint and peanut butter ice cream, along with Zombieland.
Lastly the first season of Skins on its own, and the second matched with Doritos.
