There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment.-Sarah Dessen

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUU!" We all yell and Shawn takes a deep breath closing his eyes in the process while blowing the candles. The pink on his cheeks slowly spread on his handsome features. I quickly jump into his arms and hug him tight.
"What did you wish for?" I ask after letting go of him.
"I'm afraid I can't say, or else it won't come true." He genuinely smiles and a giggle escapes my lips. I look at the chocolate cake and my mouth gets watery. That looks so good! I take a piece of it and sit down at the dining table where everyone is just enjoying everything.
"Mm...This tastes delicious!" Shawn says taking a seat beside me. I smile at him.
"I know!" I giggle, not knowing what to say next.
"I can't believe I'm already nineteen." He sighs and I take another mouthful of cake. "Its like yesterday I was just a little kid wishing for this day, and now...here I am." He chuckles. "And I'm glad you're here with me." A smile appears on his face and my heart flips.
"Shawn this is for you honey." His mom hands a phone to Shawn.
"Who is it?" He looks confused at his own mother.
"Find it out yourself." His mom smiles and he brings his phone up to his ear while standing up and walking away from the dining room into the living room where it's more quieter. I watch him talk on the phone and his face frown little by little. I wonder who he is talking to.
"So, when is your birthday?" Aalyiah asks making me turn around and not pay attention to Shawn anymore. I look at her carefully as she takes a piece of cake in her mouth. She looks just like Shawn.
"Um... its on December 22nd." I say but she isn't really paying attention so I don't think she has heard me.
Yeah, my birthday is three days before Christmas. You might say that I'm lucky, but I'm really not. When is my birthday everyone is busy preparing for Christmas and they kind of forget about it. Of course its celebrated but its forgotten really easily.
I look down at my almost finished piece of cake and the next thing I know is the door that leads to the back of the house being slammed really loudly.
It takes me a few seconds to realize that it's Shawn.
I quickly stand up on my feet and walk over to the door slowly pushing it open and the closing it behind me.
A cold wind blows upon me making my whole body shiver since I am wearing a thin shirt.
My eyes scan the porch till they land on a tall figure leaning it's self over the porch railing.
"Shawn..." I lightly press my hand on his arm. He doesn't say anything, neither looks at me. His eyes and his mind are somewhere else, somewhere far away. I wait a little bit hoping that he will say something but no words come out of his mouth.
He is mad and I know it; by the way his eyebrows frown and by the way he breaths in heavily.
"Who-" My voice comes out weak so I clear my throat in the process. "Who were you talking on the phone with?" I finally ask coming next to him and placing my elbows on the railing leaning over my upper body.
"My dad." I study his face. Disappointment, sadness and anger flashes through his eyes as they look at me. He then quickly shifts his posture and is no longer facing me.
