Luke
I was drifting off to sleep, with Nick resting on my shoulder, when I heard a familiar sound of an engine. I jolted awake.
"What's that?" Nick asked me.
"Kenny must've gotten that truck started." I answered, and stood up, having to keep careful of my leg, which had bled out in the water. Nick followed.
Everybody walked out to see a black pickup truck, the bonner up where Kenny had gotten it to work.
"It works?" Mike asked.
"What'd I tell ya?" Kenny asked.
"So what now?" I ask.
"What's the plan?" Mike asked.
"How much food do we have?" Jane asked, walking out of the house to join us.
"At least a week." Mike answered.
"And for the baby?" Jane questioned.
"Not much." Mike said.
"We need to find a place for the baby." Clementine said.
"Yeah. Someplace warm." Nick spoke.
"I agree." Jane nodded. "We should head back South."
"What?" Kenny asked.
"We're gonna freeze to death. I don't whose stupid idea it was to march up here in the first place, but it was a bad one." Jane crossed her arms. It was probably mine, convincing the group to check out this house. And was it worth it? Not really.
"She's right." Mike agreed.
"What if we went back to Howe's?" Jane suggested. I shuddered. That shit camp. Carver might be dead, but his people might not be.
"Wait, what?! Fuck that. I was thinking more like Texas." Mike shook his head.
"Texas? The fuck?" Kenny frowned.
"It was just an idea." I said.
"We already talked about this!" Kenny snapped.
"We did?" Mike and Nick asked at the same time.
"Were we asleep?" I asked.
"We're goin' to find Wellington, right Clem?" Kenny asked Clementine, who grit her teeth.
"Wellington?" Jane asked.
"Kenny, it's freezing out here, man." Mike said. "We've got three frozen out of all of us."
"It's only going to get worse." Jane said.
"Jane's right." Clem said. "We should head South. We're going to freeze to death up here. And it's the best thing for the baby."
"I vote we go back, too." Bonnie said.
"Mike?" Bonnie asked Mike.
"Sure. Whatever." Mike answered.
"I don't mind. Both are a shot in the dark." Nick said, and shrugged.
"I-I agree." I said.
"Look, I don't give two shits about what you people think. I got this truck workin', so I say where we go, and we're heading fuckin' North. It's the best chance we got of helpin' AJ." Kenny said crossly.
"What about Arvo?" Mike asked.
"Who? Oh, the russkie? Yeah, he ain't coming with us." Kenny said.
That wasn't fair. Arvo helped us here, and now it's not fair to leave him by himself.
"You're just going to leave him here?" Mike asked, he too horrified with the thought.
"I don't give a goddamn where he goes. He's done." Kenny replied.
"We should ask him what he wants." Clementine said angrily.
"There's a concept." Jane said.
"He knows the area. He can help us." Nick reasoned.
"Oh, yeah, some help he's been. He nearly got Clementine, Nick and Luke killed." Kenny said, looking at us. "Want that to happen again?"
"I ain't gonna say he helped the situation, but if you eased up on him before, he wouldn't've run away in the first place, you ever think about that?" Nick said angrily.
"Either way, I'm not going anywhere in the middle of the night." Jane said.
"Yeah, me neither. There could be a herd out there." Mike said.
"You want that child's blood in your hands, Mike?" Kenny asked, stepping forward.
"We're all gonna die out here if you don't calm the FUCK down, Kenny." Mike said.
"Haven't we been through enough for one day?" Jane asked.
"Jesus fucking Christ. Remember the last time we had a working car, and sat around in our asses, Clem?" Kenny asked her.
"I'm going inside." Jane gave up, and walked away. Kenny looked around at us angrily.
"Goddammit!" He yelled, and opened the car do, sitting in the driver's seat. He slammed the door.
"You can't just walk away from us!" Clementine yelled. I sighed, and turned around too.
"This is fucked." I muttered. I walked in, and grabbed my leg in pain. "Fuck."
"He's lost it." Nick said. "What do we do?"
"Hell if I know." I said, and limped towards the fire. I sat down with a grunt, and pulled up the leg of my jeans to reveal the tourniquet patched with blood around the bullet wound.
"I need to change my own bandage." Nick said, and pointed to his shoulder, which had no sleeve. He pulled it back his bandage to reveal a still fresh, patched. There was a yellow fluid on stained onto the bandage from when it got disinfected.
"Gross." I said. "I'm not doing it. I know jackshit when it comes to being a medic."
"Well, I know that." Nick said. I sighed, and wipe the pouring blood that dripped from the cold exposure off my leg.
"Ugh." I bite my lip, and tie the tourniquet up tightly.
"Everyone else is really gone." Nick sighed. He took off his watch, and tucked it into his pocket. "Doesn't work anymore."
"Don't get down about it." I said. "We still have AJ, Alvin and Bec's kid. We'll look after him, if Kenny lets us."
Nick opened his mouth to say something, when Bonnie came in with two cans of food.
"Hey, guys." She said, and handed us one each. I scooped some out, and tipped it into my mouth. Chile, or something. Bonnie ha dope tit over the fire, so it was warm in the tin.
"Thank you." Nick sighed, and kept eating.
"I don't know what to do." Bonnie sighed and shook her head. "Kenny is so determined to leave now. We're tired, you guys aren't in the best position."
"We're fine." Nick said.
"Okay, well. Still." Bonnie sat down. "We're thinking of maybe...leavin' Kenny."
"What?!" Nick exclaimed. "We can't do that!"
"That's not fair." I said.
"Okay, okay, it was just a thought." Bonnie put her hands up. "Sorry...didn't know what I was thinkin'."
"It's a plan full of holes." I said, and shook my head.
"Clem would never come." Nick said. "I...want to stay with her as well."
"Okay." Bonnie said. "Sorry."
I ate the rest of the food, and nodded.
"It's okay." I said. "Just...I don't really want the group to fall apart anymore."
"Okay." Bonnie said. "That's okay."
Clementine walked in.
"Kenny said we need to get our sleep, so we can leave in the morning." She said. "There are some warmer rooms over there."
She pointed to the outlet living room, closed away with the door.
"I'm going to stay with AJ." She muttered. She walked away sadly.
...
Nick
I sighed as Clementine walked away, and crushed the thin can, before chucking it to the wall. It bounced back onto the ground.
"Nick. Don't." Luke said, and shook his head.
I roll my eyes. Bonnie stepped out of the room.
"How could she leave Kenny? How could anyone?" I asked. "Look, I know he's going nuts, but still. Absolutely not fair."
"I thought you hated him?" Luke asked me, raising an eyebrow.
"Hate him? Naw, that's a strong word. More like strongly dislike." I smirk. "No, he's a good guy. He's just know for not thinking things through. Rash decisions."
"Wow, don't that sound familiar." Luke looked at me. I looked away.
"Shut up." I said, and rolled my eyes.
"Look." Luke sighed. "I'll go where you go." He stood up. "And right now, I'm going to sleep. See you in the morning."
I nodded, and he walked away into the other room, and shut the door.
