Luke
I crouched low in the comic store; there was nothing more I could do. I needed to find someone from our group, anyone. But right now, there was no one.
I had half of my hunger under control, yet the food I found in here after all this time was minimal. Yet, I stayed there, ready to wave somebody in.
As I waited, I saw....Clementine.
She walked down the perimeter between the walls, and she wore a new jacket if some kind. I opened the door as she walked past, and grabbed her. I made sure to clasp my hand over her mouth, and position my arm so she wouldn't run away. She struggled, and her screams were muffled by my hand. I pulled her in, just as she bit down hard.
"No! Stop!" She yells, and squirmed out if my grasp she stepped back.
"Hey! Hey! It's me! Luke. Okay? Just calm down." I said. She had made a lot of noise. "I came all this way. And this- this is the welcome I get."
Clementine rushed forward and hugged me. I hugged her back.
"I was worried." Clementine pulled away. "We all were."
"Aw, its good to see you too, kid." I said, and smiled. I hoped when she meant 'We all are', she meant Nick. "Alright, listen, we don't have that much time, okay? I haven't had a nights rest since y'all got nabbed, and we'll...nows the first chance I've gotten to speak to anybody. They're everywhere. They've got guards everywhere. Watching everything. Shh-shh." I pointed to the door, and Clementine turned around, to hear footsteps wander past. I stood up.
"There's a herd of lurkers just South of us. It's bigger than I've ever seen around these parts." I said.
"Carver mentioned that. Said he hopes it passes us." Clementine responded. I pushed the door open a crack, and peered through the walls.
"Yeah, I heard folks talking about that, but that ain't so, okay? It's gonna hit this place, I know it is...now, I don't know when, but, it's comin', and it's comin' soon." I said. "See, I've been looking for places to....to get y'all free...but I haven't been able to find anything yet."
I began to pace, looking around the stall.
"We just need a plan...a plan to get you...and everyone away..." I began, my words drifting apart.
"Luke..." Clementine snapped my attention back.
"Oh, sorry, sorry, shit...okay. Troy ain't gonna like you being late." I said, and kneeled down to Clem's height. "Listen, Clem, I need you to meet me here at this time tomorrow, cause I need you to get me one of those radios, okay? Do you think you can do that? Just one of those walkie talkies. I just need to be able to tell y'all about what's going on with those guards...you know I'll figure what schedules their patrols are on. I mean, they're all over the place, but I can keep an eye on them for y'all up here."
Clementine hesitated.
"Listen, we're not going to be able to shoot our way out of here, so we need to be careful." I clarified.
"O-okay, I-I.l get you one." Clementine nodded.
"Thanks, Clem. I'm so glad I can count on you." I smiled. "Remember, you meet me here tomorrow, I'll try to be here around this time, but if I ain't...just wait around as long as you can, cause' I really need one of those radios. Just let everyone know that I'm alright, okay?"
Clementine nodded. "Okay. I'll try."
"Thank you." I stood up. "Oh yeah, and uh, how's Nick?"
Clementine opened her mouth to respond, but she was interrupted by Troy.
"Clementine! Get out where I can see ya!" He called from outside. I snuck back, and Clementine opened the door to leave. I nodded as she left.
It's not a real thought out plan, but it's all we have.
Nick
I lifted the last box, annoyed with the small amount of work I was given. I mean, I know some of the others were working to the bone, but right now...with all these shitty positions? I just wanted a distraction. I sighed, and Tavia nodded.
"Y'all can go take a break if you want. But you have to be back here." She said. I rolled my eyes, and turned around, and began walking to the pen, which was just behind a few shipping containers of where I working.
Nobody was in the pen, thank god, so I just walked to the table on the right side, where a table full of rinsed cups and bottled water was. I filled up a cup, and drank thirstily. Better than drinking the non filtered stuff from the river. I sighed, and moved the water around in the cup.
"How the fuck did I get here?" I asked myself, and tossed the rest of the water in my mouth.
I sighed, and out the cup back. I knew I couldn't just sit here forever. God knows Carver will flip a shit. I heard footsteps, and I looked down into the warehouse where Clementine was walking up to Carver's office. God, that fucking sociopath. It's so messed up that you would make you hit your own kid. I know Sarah has been sheltered, but I know I'm just comparing her to Clementine, who knows self defence to the level of an adult. I sighed, and walked back to my station.
Tavia frowned at me.
"What are you staring at?" I asked, and crossed my arms.
"An idiot." Tavia answered, and I took a step back. Flipping bitch. "Here. Carry this to the South post. And don't fuck up. Everyone will see, hear me?"
"How can taking a box to a post involve screwing up?" I asked, and raised an eyebrow as I took the box from her.
"Oh, trust me, you'd find a way." She said. I stood there, contemplating whether I wanted to make a big deal out of her stupid words, or do my work. "Well, go already."
I scoffed, and began walking the other way. God, its assholes like her that makes me happy people are dead in this world.
