Nick
We waited around by the fire, paranoid of when Clementine would come back.
"I'm starting to worry." Kenny told the group. "What if she got caught?"
"Then she's dead for sure." Jane responded. Kenny glared at her.
"How fucking dare you!" Kenny said. "Okay...okay...well, Clementine can sort herself out if a good situation."
"She'll be fine." Rebecca said. "She's tough."
Jane looked away from the fire, and I did too. I honestly didn't have that much hope in the plan, but you never know. I'm always surprised. Guess that's an understatement. Truth be told, it came to a point when I thought of Luke, the same tingling between my legs I felt when Luke was kissing me would appear. It made me embarrassed, and I felt my cheeks heat up. Rebecca inspected me side on.
"You okay, Nick? You're very quiet." Rebecca said. I looked ahead.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I nodded, and watched as the embers around the flames went to the ceiling of the pen, which was chain linked seperators. "Just a lot to process."
"Well, process it fast." Kenny said. "As soon as Luke gets that radio, its anytime now that there would be a breach."
I liked that this plan had so much to do with Luke, because whenever he was mentioned, a little spark lit off inside of me. Cringey, whatever, but it's true. I haven't ever felt this sensation in my entire life.
Troy walked into the pen, and we all exchanged worried glances. If he noticed Clementine was gone, we were doomed. He just stared at him, his eyes picking up on the tension. Even Sarah looked ahead, gripping the sides of her pants anxiously.
"Get to bed." Troy ordered, and walked away. He didn't notice the missing number. We all got up, ready to leave for bed, but Mike walked over to where Clementine had left on the ladder. I looked up to see she had gotten back. I smiled to myself. The sooner we leave, the sooner I get to see Luke. I saw her let go of the ladder, and fall into Mike's arms. He set her down, and she made her way over to Kenny and Sarah.
"Did you get em'?" Kenny asked, and Clementine pulled a radio out of her pocket. I smiled to myself. We were getting closer. "You sneaky Devil." Kenny smiled.
Luke
I woke up the next morning, to footsteps outside the door. I stood up from where I layed behind the desk, and ran behind some shelves. I heard Troy scoff as he opened the door.
"Fucking hell, there it is!" He said, and picked up something. I peeked through a gap in the shelf, and saw him pick up and old gun. I saw him click off the safety, and check the bullet safe. He rolled his eyes, and out the empty gun back in his pocket. He left, and I sighed in relief.
I got out, and looked outside. It was day, and I guess I had been sleeping more, to avoid the hunger that was now built from three days of malnourishment. The sides of my stomach jabbed painfully. And now, even sleep couldn't distract it. I pushed the door open, and looked around. I needed food, and I knew where to find it. It was located a few closed off stores ahead. I walked down, cautious that no one could see me from the roof, and snuck into the storage compartment. I pushed the door open, and snuck in. I turned around, and let the door click quietly. When I turned around, I saw Troy standing there. I jumped backwards. He had a loaded gun in his hand, and he could shoot me if I tried running away.
"Hello, Luke." He said, and his fist connected to my jaw.
