Nick
I lay near Rebecca, feeling regret and embarrassment. I had taken Luke downstairs to talk, and then my urges got the best of me, and I just...grabbed there. He seemed so hesitant to let it happen, like he just wanted to get it over and done with. But eventually, he stopped me before I went as far as undressing myself.
"Just...don't." He said.
Don't? Don't what? Don't grab his dick? Don't kiss him? Don't got there?
Luke wasn't a very clear person, I decided.
One moment he's feeling buthurt that I would leave without him, and then another he's just pushing me away. And he can't say "He needs time", because that's what he said last time, and hours later he fucked Jane. That slut.
I was awake with all these thoughts before I was bought to my attention by the baby crying. I looked over at Rebecca, but her arms were empty. Clementine was asleep, with Luke laying on his side beside her. Kenny, I noticed was standing on the edge of the broken deck, the baby curled up in a blanket in his arms.
I had heard that Clementine had comforted the baby before, and I realised that this was something that Rebecca and Clementine were in together. Which was a surprise, since before they had some sort of beef.
I stood up, walking past everyone who was sleeping. I was careful not to step on Mike's outstretched hand as I stood next to Kenny. He barely acknowledged I was there at first, before her sighed.
"Try not to lose your shit when I say you were an asshole when we met." Kenny said. I rolled my eyes. "But now I see why your group out up with you. In the end, you help. And, don't get offended when I say this, but you're almost like a depicture of myself. Except, you can control yourself a little bit better than me."
"I don't know what to say." I say sarcastically. "Thanks?"
"Say what you want. At least we're level now." Kenny said, and looked down at the baby in his arms. The baby itself was awake, and started to cry, its voice coming out as a just a squeak. "What? You want to hold him?"
"Uh, no thanks. I'll drop it." I said. Kids weren't really my thing.
"How confident." Kenny said, but he rested the squirming baby in my arms, and I knew I couldn't just toss it back. I wince as I hold him to my chest, and it calmed down. "There."
"Um...thanks." I said, the baby weightless in my arms. After a few seconds of holding the baby quietly, it started to cry. I handed it back to Kenny gently. "That's where I give him back."
Kenny laughed.
"Now, you better feel privileged when I say this, but...I think you've actually found yourself off my shitlist." Kenny said.
"Oh good." I smile. "That was my aim."
Kenny chuckled, and patted my back while still holding the child.
I realised then that I never want to contemplate leaving this group.
...
Luke
I roll over, the cold wind still on my face. I see, from the corners of my tired vision, I see Nick, standing beside Kenny, cradling the child. And that was a sight I never thought I'd see.
I grew up with Nick my entire life. I honestly knew him better than anyone else. We were pretty much opposites, him and I. I was...more committed to where I was headed in the future than he was. In fact, even when we were grown adults, he still acted like a kid. But I guess I didn't know him that well, since he keeps on surprising me. And maybe that's what I'm into.
