Nick
"Do you trust me or not?" Kenny demanded, and I sighed and opened my eyes. I don't want to be involved in the small argument between Kenny and Carlos at this moment. Clementine had the torn expression in her face, similar to the one when Kenny and I had a spit. "I mean, try not to get yourself hurt, or anything in the process."
Clementine nodded. "I trust you."
Of course she does.
"Good, good, now--"
The truck hit a bump, and I shut my eyes, and covered my mouth, for hope not to poison the back of truck. Kenny hit his head on the wall, and fell backwards. Sarita ran to his side.
"Kenny!" She exclaimed, and looked at his head. "Are you hurt?"
" It's probably for the best." Carlos murmured. I rolled my eyes, but even that put pressure on my weak stomach.
...
The back door opened, and Carver stepped forward. I recognised the hardware walls behind him. We had arrived. We all stood up, and began to clear free of the truck. I looked behind me, the movement in my feet making me want to be sick more. The others started moving ahead, Sarah and Clementine and Carlos behind me. Even though Carver's ,men had their guns on me, I couldn't hold it in any longer, I went to the side, away from everyone else, and vomited the bile Luke had forced into me last night.
Damnit Luke!
"Ew." Sarah said, and Clementine just watched me sadly.
"You done?" Troy asked. I nodded. I really wanted to wipe around my mouth, but my hands were currently pinned behind my back. I continued waking, feeling somewhat better.
Troy waved Carlos over.
"Come on. We need your for something." Troy said. Carlos groaned.
"Can't if wait till morning? We're all exhausted." Carlos asked.
"Just come the fuck on." Troy replied, and that was that.
Carlos was then separated from the rest of us, and Sarah stopped. She gasped at the fact Carlos was gone.
"I need him. I need my Dad." She whimpered. "I can't...he..he looks after me."
Troy came back, Carlos was led away by a guard.
"I'm sorry..." Clementine muttered, and even though Sarah wasn't willing to walk without her Dad, Clem convinced her too, anyway. "I know you're scared."
"I thought we'd never come back here. My Dad said we wouldn't." Sarah sighed. "I just want to talk to him."
"He'll be back." Clementine said.
"Thanks, Clem." Sarah smiled.
Carver continued on to his stupid 'man power' speech as we walked.
I knew where we were heading. The directed path which winded behind supplies and containers was right to the pen. I shook me head. I didn't think I would ever be here; my uncle dead, my friend missing, held against my will in a literal shithole.
Bonnie pulled a lever, and pressed a button, which enabled the door to pull upwards. I sighed, and looked over at her.
"Thanks Bonnie." I said, and walked out with the others.
"Yup." She replied.
I walked outside, the sky dark and closed off between chainlinked fences. The usual fireplace hadn't changed, nor had the cracked bedding which was a poor excuse of sets of bunk beds. I saw unfamiliar faces. Troy stood to the side, and took our restraints off.
"Y'all better get some sleep. You'll be getting more work tomorrow." Troy ordered.
Whatever. Such a dick.
"That's for you." Bonnie spoke to Rebecca, and nodded to a stretch mattress, which looked way comfortable than the sketch beds at the far
"Yeah, it would be." Rebecca crossed her arms. "Fuckin' Bill. Keeps me out in the cold, but at least I'll be comfortable."
A man, who I couldn't see from behind, but was irrelevantly unknown lay on the ground near a new tent.
I saw Reggie, but, and I knew him well. He had helped us escape, but I guess he fell, and there was nothing any of us could do. When I saw him, I saw his arm, and gritted my teeth. Well, when I say I saw his arm, I really didn't. Because it wasn't there anymore. All there was was a stump, covered by his clothing.
"Hey guys." He said, and moved forward.
"Reggie?!" Rebecca exclaimed. Rebecca walked forward to hug him. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. What did they do to you?"
"This could've been much worse, trust me. Lucky to be alive." Reggie sighed. I felt bad.
"It's my fault." I said, which is what happened. I just left him there, and I couldn't help him. Well, I could've. I just didn't.
"No, it's really not. I would tell you if it was. This happened well after you guys left." Reggie said, talking about his arm. "They got me working outside. Lurker snuck up on me while I was hammering something."
Yikes.
"Luckily they took my arm off quick. Saved my life." He said.
"That's awful...I'm so sorry." Rebecca said.
"Look, it was my decision to help you." Reggie said. Tavia walks into the pen, rifle in hands.
"Alvin, Carver wants you in his office." She said.
"What? Why?" Alvin asked.
"Don't make this difficult." Tavia ordered. "It's too late for that."
"No! Please!" Rebecca begged.
"It's okay, Bec. Just get some rest. If he wanted to do something to me, he'd have done it already." Alvin said, reassuring her. "I'll be fine. Let's just see what he wants."
And with that, Alvin left, walking behind Tavia out of the pen. God, Alvin was wrong. Carver either cuts it off quick, and plays it out a little longer.
"Hey! Reggie!" Troy called for his attention.
"Oh, hey Troy." Reggie relied.
"Bill's real close to letting you out, so don't got fucking up. If you keep these guys under control tonight, I'll put in a good word." Troy said.
"Okay. You can count on me." Reggie smiled prouder. Fuck. They've convinced Reggie that this imprisonment is okay. "Thanks Troy."
"Don't mention it." Troy started walking away, Bonnie following. And with that, the door shut down, leaving us in here.
"Oh right, let me introduce you to them." Rebecca said to Reggie, and we moved up. "We were with them when we got caught."
"Hey, I'm Reggie." Reggie said, to Kenny and Sarita.
"That's Sarita." Rebecca said.
"Hello..." Sarita answered.
"And that's Kenny."
"Heya."
Reggie looked at Clementine.
"Hello, who are you?" He asked. Clementine looked at Kenny before answering.
"My name's Clementine." She said.
"It's very nice to meet you, Clementine." Reggie held his hand out, and Clem shook it. "Where's Carlos?"
"Bill's already got him looking at some folks." Rebecca answered.
"Oh...okay, good. What about Pete?" Reggie asked.
Shit. That hurt more than it should've. Rebecca raised her eyebrows, and looked away sadly. Sarah crossed her arms, and even Clementine looked distressed about the subject.
"Can you guys save it for the morning?" The man near the tent asked. We all turned to look at him. "Some of us gotta be up early."
"Sorry!" Clementine called.
"No problem. Sorry about that." Reggie called back too, and the man rolled on his side away from us. "Okay, that's Mike. He's kind of a dick when he's tired...but, like I said, he saved my life, so I put up with that shit. Bill out him to work outside the wall with me."
"I'm so sorry..." Rebecca said again.
"Stop with all the sorry. It was my choice. Besides, he said once you were all caught, he'd let me rejoin the group, so I'm kiknd of glad you're here." Reggie said. It was silent. "I'm just joking."
I noticed Sarah and Clem were invested by someone, so I followed their gaze to a woman sitting at a picnic table on the other side of the room. She seemed off, and looked vacantly back at us. Reggie looked over at her too.
"Oh, yeah, right, so she's fucking weird. They found her sneaking around outside the camp, covered in guts, and just, like, the grossest shit."
At this point, the woman had gotten up, and walked away.
"It's probably best not to stare." Rebecca whispered.
"I know how it must look...but it's really not that bad here." Reggie began. Bullshit. I looked around at the group, and decided to make my retreat. I didn't want to stand around and listen to reasons why this place was so good, This was such bullshit. I walked over to the far end, the walls revealing the same old shit beds. I sighed, and sat on one, the hard, chipped wood half penetrating my tailbone. I layed back, and dragged my hat over my eyes. I still wasn't okay from before. I spent almost a day in that fucking truck.
When Reggie bought up Pete...I just felt a sharp kick in the gut. It wasn't fair. And now I had no one to turn to. I would talk to Rebecca, or Carlos, but god knows they haven't lost anyone important. Clementine just seems annoying to talk to. But I guess she's only annoying because she's right. And Luke...well, he's probably dead. I took shallow breaths. Don't say that. He might be coming, or her might not. I just didn't know for sure.
Oh, fuck it. Kenny's probably right. He finally abandoned our poor group.
"I guess it's better than sleeping on the floor..." I heard Clementine say to herself. I knew she as talking about the beds.
"It's not." I say, and I didn't hear anything after that.
After a long time of me just trying to go to sleep, I heard the pen door open. I leapt up, and secured my hat on my head. Carlos walked through the door, and Sarah clung to him.
"Dad!" She called, and hugged him tightly.
I frown. I rarely ever hugged Pete. And now I wish I could. Just one last time.
"Okay, now go the fuck to sleep. I'm shootin' the first one of y'all I see wanderin' up before sun-up." Troy ordered, and began walking away.
"Troy! Troy! Where's Alvin?!" Rebecca called.
"Go the fuck to bed." Troy said, and I heard the door shut behind him.
