Nick
I lifted one of the many cans off the shelf, surprised that these made it in the franchise that happened in here.
"Clem, can you hand me one of those?" I see Clementine, who was behind the shelf. She walked around with AJ, and gave me a blue strapped bag. I pushed all of the cans in the bag, and it got heavy.
"That's a lot." Clementine said, and looked at the amount of food. "It'll last us a while."
"I would hope so." I said, and saw that Clementine had two bags. "You got some find."
"One's for me." Clementine said. "I found some powdered milk for AJ, as well as diapers and other stuff."
"Good." I said.
I had noticed Clementine had tucked her bloodstained jacket into the bag, and had adjusted to a new large zip jacket that stopped before her knees, with a faux fur lining around the hood. Probably much warmer for her.
I saw a lurker approach from behind. Clementine pulled her gun up, but I shook my head no. I used the Swiss Army knife I had found to impale its head, and it fell dead.
"Do you think the others have found something?" Clementine asked me. I shrugged.
"Let's find them." I said, and we both left the old store.
It was disgusting in here, other than the complete abandonment of it all. I was surprised it wasn't completely picked clean. I guess it was far enough from Carver's camp to be excluded from their loot zone.
AJ had began to cry, and Clementine gritted her teeth, and quieted him down. I looked around me as I carried the rifle, and the two heavy bags of food, and that tent. I didn't want anymore lurkers appearing out of nowhere to attack us. I looked over to find that AJ was now not freezing underneath the blanket, and had sort of denim thermal to wear.
We walked down the stairs, and saw Luke and Kenny, gathering their stuff.
"What'd you find?" Luke asked us when we got closer.
"I got clothes, and food for AJ." Clementine said, and picked up a small red bag. "And stuff for me. You should see how much Nick found."
I smiled, and set the bag down. Kenny unzipped it, revealing the number of cans, and bottled water.
"Fuck. We could last a while with this." Kenny said. "Nice job, Vanilla Ice."
Ugh, I hated that name. I rolled my eyes.
"This is the best thing that's happened to us, guys." Luke said. "We have food, water, warmth. And Kenny even found another siphoned pickup truck. It's...small, but we'll only be in there for a few days."
I didn't think too much of that idea; It was a surprise how nobody even came across this place after all this time, and now to its exposure, I was sure that would attract more people.
"So, uh, we should go." I said. "I don't know about you guys, but I want to leave, and get to Wellington as soon as possible."
"Are there many walkers around here?" Kenny asked us, suspicious to my need to leave.
"I killed a few." Clementine said.
"Same." I said.
"Uh, naw, we could stay here for a day at least to rest up." Luke said, and Kenny agreed with him. Wow. I hated their knew pact, because every other time, Kenny would insist on leaving right away.
"Yeah." Kenny said. "I'm driving there, since I don't trust any of you guys behind the wheel. I wouldn't mind the rest."
I groaned, and sighed.
"Whatever." I said. "Maybe we should go upstairs, but over there," I pointed upstairs to the food court. Kenny narrowed his eye.
"Whatever, asshole." Kenny said. "It's still in the middle of the day. How about we pack the other stuff in the truck, and set up over there. Tonight, we'll eat for real."
"Maybe even drink." Luke smiled at me, and I felt myself go tingly in that area. Jesus...
"Not me." Kenny said, and picked up some bags. "I'm driving in the morning."
Kenny didn't feel very happy about missing his opportunity to drink.
