The Nightmare

☬Chapter Twelve: Coming Together ☬

       Ada picks up a fallen branch and flings it to the side, Nereyda crosses her arms as she examines a tree sliced in half. Miles and Kendra begin walking around the perimeter looking for any clues. 

"Do you think this is where Cybil and Chris were before they were killed? Fighting someone or something before it got them?" Nereyda curiously ask's as she breaks off a piece of bark from the tree. Ada shrugs her shoulders, "I'm not sure, but it's our best bet." Ada says as she runs her finger over the ground. 

"We don't have much to work with. There's no evidence here or DNA. Nothing." Hunnigan says as she walks into the woods with her laptop in hand. Ada sighs as she shakes her head, "There's gotta be something here. Anything!" Ada kicks some dirt before resting her head in her hands. 

      Miles and Kendra slightly turn their heads to the side, "Ada, you might wanna check this out. I think we got something." Miles says as she looks back at her. Ada, Nereyda and Hunnigan jog towards them, they immediately see the trail of torn down tree's going farther deep into the woods. Miles and Ada both look at each other in angst. "We need to check it out." Ada softly says, Miles nods his head. 

       Ada turns to face Nereyda, Hunnigan and Kendra, "You three are gonna stay here and bring all of the equipment to this location. I want you guy's to find anything you can here, use all of the equipment Bug was able to pull out from the bus. If we aren't back by dawn, don't come for us and just head to the hospital. Is that understood?" Ada ask's them all as she looks them in the eyes.

      Kendra nod's her head, Nereyda and Hunnigan both shake their heads. "We can't just leave you both out here! We're coming with you!" Nereyda shout's as she tries to walk past Ada. Ada swiftly grabs her by the arm and pulls her back, "You will not go! You're going to stay here in safety, away from danger! Kendra WILL keep you two safe." Ada sigh's as she lets go of Nereyda's arm, Nereyda steps back to stand next to Hunnigan. 

"We can help you out there Ada, let us help you." Hunnigan pleads as she stares Ada dead in the eye. Ada shakes her head, "You're both better off here. We don't know what we're gonna encounter down this path. It's best if you three just stay here and investigate. Please, do this for me. Please. I do not want to see you guy's in danger. I was barely able to control myself when I saw Heather and you, Hunnigan. When I heard you screaming, I felt so terrified. I didn't know what was happening. I nearly lost it. So please, stay back. The both of you." Ada pleads as she gulps loudly, her eyes watery. Ada shiver's as she remember's Hunnigan's scream. 

       Hunnigan nod her head as Nereyda both look down at their feet, "We'll stay back. We just don't want to sit here and basically do nothing while you two are out there. We need you." Nereyda says as she looks back up to see Ada staring at her. Ada slightly smiles as she gives Nereyda a hug, Nereyda gasps in shock. She gulps loudly as she slowly wraps her arm around Ada also. 

"You've got to be strong kid. Someday you might not have me or anyone else to help guide you. You'll have to take care of yourself and the people around you." Ada whispers in Nereyda's ear, so only she hears her. Nereyda slowly nods her head, they both let go of each other. Ada moves a strand of hair out of Nereyda's hair, Ada steps back and turns around and begins walking next to Miles towards the run down path. 

      Nereyda lets out a sigh as she crosses her arm's. "You guy's better come back." Nereyda and Hunnigan turn around to see the sun close to setting.

"Let's get to work." Hunnigan says as she begins walking back towards the equipment that's back down the road with Kendra and Nereyda following behind her. Kendra pulls out her handgun and holds it in both hands to her side. 

       Jackson sit's up in his chair, looking to his left he see's Heather asleep and Sebastian asleep on his right, in their beds. Taking a sip of water he sets it down on a small tray with his handgun on it also. He glances over at another chair by the window to see Bug passed out with some band aids on his cheeks and temple. Jackson get's up and walks over to the window, he looks down to see his bus taking up a few parking lot's. He then feels someone standing behind him, quickly turning around he see's the hooded person standing at the doorway.
