His eyes looked around what used to be their room and now it was only his. Boxes everywhere. Clothes, makeup, books, shoes, photos of them. Everything from her was gone.
"You done?" He asked stepping in the bathroom, watching her. "Phoebe?"
She turned her head and took off her headphones. "Yeah, sorry." She answered, putting her headphones away. "I was listening to some music."
He chuckled, leaning against the wall. "Yeah, I noticed. Anyways, I was asking if you are done."
She shook her head. "In twenty minute, I will."
"Where are you going after?" He queried, taking the few boxes and brought them in the living room.
She smiled. "Back to Canada, I have enough of LA." Her eyes met his and for a second they just stayed here, staring at each other. "What about this place?"
Shawn sighed and rubbed his face. "I'm moving back to Canada too but in a few. Brian will probably take the apartment back." He replied.
Somewhat, knowing that someone they both trusted would take the apartment back, made them feel better. They held so many memories in it and they couldn't live the place to someone else.
"It is great." She answered, still picking her things. "I trust Brian." She added, making Shawn smile.
Phoebe always got along with his friends and he loved it. They could come at home whenever the wanted and Phoebe would be totally down to welcome them. Shawn's friends hated Heather, he remembered so well all the fights he had with them because of her.
"I trust him too." He answered. "Could you just come with me? After you're done?" He queried, making Phoebe nods.
He went downstairs, made himself a cup of tea and waited for her. His two big hands wrapped around the mug, while he watched the sun shining through the window making the place looks nicer than it already was.
He took a moment to watch around, slowly remembering every little details about him and Phoebe. The piano, they used to sit there for the whole night and sang while drinking wine. The vinyl player on the black sideboard, Shawn would come home from a long day work and he would open the door carefully, to see her dancing in the living room to some old vinyls. The couch, they would crash here the whole day and night when she used to be pregnant, they would watch every type of things: movies, documentaries, tv shows.
Every thing in this place held a memory and Shawn was ready to do anything so Brian could have the place. He couldn't let a stranger have it.
His eyes wandered to Phoebe sitting in front of him. They used to have breakfast date, here. Shawn or her would wake up first and make breakfast, then they would sit there for hours laughing and eating.
"Phoebs, I don't want you to go." He murmured.
A frustrated and tired sigh escaped her lips. "You know I have to leave, we can't continue like that."
"But I can change, for you, for our family, for us." He mumbled looking away, the tears were already coming and he was refusing to show it.
She grabbed his free hand over the table. "There is no us, Shawn. You know it since you walked out of that hospital room." She whispered as I tried to erase that memory.
"But we have so much ahead of you." He replied. "I wanted to buy a new house and maybe a dog? so it could grow up with our kids." He cried softly. "I was going to propose you. The night I forgot our date, I was going to propose."
Phoebe closed her eyes letting her emotions consume her. They needed a calm conversation, even if they had to add cries and whimpers in it.
"Would you have say yes?" He questioned.
Phoebe's lips curved into a slight smile at the thought of her saying yes to him. "Of course, I would. In a heartbeat." She uttered.
"In a heartbeat..." He repeated. "Fuck! I'm so damn stupid!" His fit hit the wooden table making Phoebe jumps.
"Don't get mad." She said to him, softly grabbing his hands and kissed them. "Please, don't. I just want to have a calm conversation."
He hummed. "I'm sorry." His hands squeezed hers.
She chuckled. "It's okay. I love you, you know that?" He nodded. "But, you have to understand that we need to go separate ways. Like I said few days ago, I need to get my shit together." She admitted, making her ex-boyfriend hums. "Saying no to you was the hardest thing in my whole life. For gods sake, you're the love of my life!"
"Then why are you letting me go?" He articulated.
A lump in her throat formed at the question. "Because, I believe that if we are made for each other, I will find my way back to you but when the time is right."
"I will find you again, Phoebe Clark. I won't let you go that easily." He chuckled.
She inhaled. "Try to find me again at the right time so we can have our happy ending." She teases but deep inside, she meant it.
"I will try my best." He spoke, making Phoebe laughs. A genuinely laugh.
She looked down at her watch and cursed. "I have to go or I'll miss my fly."
"Want me to drive to the airport?" He asked to her, she shook her head and offered him a grateful smile.
"I ordered a taxi before coming downstairs." She told him. "I love you, Shawn Mendes. Never forget that."
Shawn's red eyes became teary again, she was really leaving him. "I love you forever, Phoebe."
She smiled softly as he cupped her face, closing her eyes at his touch. "I know." She kissed the interior of his hand.
"Goodbye kiss?" He proposed making her giggle.
She hummed letting him take control. His hands went on her waist and brought her closer like he used to do, her hands automatically got lost in his hair as he titled his head and leaned down. His lips finally came in contact with hers, as they kissed, they both could taste their salty tears.
Phoebe pulled away and immediately wrapped her arms around Shawn's torso, wanting to feel his strong arms around her a last time. Shawn's chin reposed on her head as they both enjoyed that last moment together.
"I love you, Shawn." She faltered one last time before pulling away from him.
He kissed her forehead. "Forever, Phoebe."
"Goodbye." She fretted turning around and leaving.
