Chapter 34 - Ratting Out A Rat

You looked up at the half moon. It seemed brighter tonight as you walked with Lupin, who was carrying the still sleeping Peter. Harry was hanging back with Sirius and Draco had ran ahead to get Dumbledore. 

"Lupin?" You asked and looked at him. Lupin looked at you.

"Yes?" He asked. You bit your lip a bit out of nerviness.  

"Why didn't you tell Harry about all this before hand?" You asked. Lupin sighed. 

"I wanted to, I did, but Sirius told me not too until we found Peter." Lupin said. You nodded, looking back and saw that Harry was hugging Sirius. You smiled, happy that Harry had some kind of family that loved him. As you got closer, you saw Draco coming back, with Dumbledore right behind him and the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge. 

"So its true." Fudge said in shock at seeing the sleeping Peter. Draco walked up next to you. Lupin nodded, putting down Peter. 

"Did Sirius kill him?" Fudge asked in a rude voice. 

"No, Lupin put him under a sleeping spell." You said. Fudge nodded. 

"Well, I will take him and question him." Fudge said and used his wand to lift him up. 

"Cornelius, I believe your forgetting something." Dumbledore said. Fudge stopped and faced Dumbledore. 

"I don't believe I have to say it." Fudge said. 

"I believe you do." Dumbledore said. You could have sworn you heard Fudge's teeth grind in anger.

"You are a free and innocent man Black." Fudge said bitterly and walked off. Sirius smiled and Dumbledore walked up to him.

"A free man needs a job." Dumbledore said. Sirius shrugged.     

"I will find one." Sirius said. Dumbledore smiled. 

"Come with me." Dumbledore said and Sirius placed a hand on Harry's shoulder with a smile before following Dumbledore.

"Well, with Peter caught, I will go and turn in my resignation." Lupin said. You, Harry and Draco all looked at him. 

"What?" Harry asked. Lupin smiled and looked at all of you. 

"I only told Dumbledore I would do this for a year. It will be OK I will finish this year and your new teacher will start next year." Lupin said. You all nodded, a bit sad. 

The rest of the year went smoothly and everyone was talking about how Sirius was innocent. Ron understood with Scabbers and Sirius gave him a new pet owl as an apology. At the end of the year fest, Gryffindor had won the house cup and Lupin resigned. Everyone clapped for Lupin to give him a final farewell but then Dumbledore held his  and up and everyone became silent.

"I wish to announce the new, and permanent Defense Against the Dark Arts, Sirius Black." Dumbledore said. Harry, you and Draco all stood and clapped, as did a few other people. Sirius smiled as he sat down and looked right at you, Harry and Draco. He held his cup up. You smiled and did the same, clinking your with Draco and Harry's. 

The train ride was easy and you found out that the Quidditch World Cup was in a few months.

"Hey guys, my Dad gets tickets every year. I can have him get two more and we all can go if you want." You said. Draco and Harry smiled. 

"Yeah, sounds like fun!" Draco said and Harry nodded.

"Definitely." Harry said. You smiled as you thought about the summer ahead but then a lot of noise started on the train. Your smile faded and Draco stood, opening the door. 

"Whats going on?" Draco asked a girl. She looekd at him. 

"That guy that the Minister of Magic took, the one that killed the  Potter's, He escaped." She said and ran off. Draco looked at you and Harry. You all looked worried.
